Chapter 29
Shadow was seated with Lidar Nautica Amari and Nyke . Lidar called an emergency sit down.
“The people that were following Ace worked for The Grandberries.”
“What?” Amari frowned. The Grandberries were old rivals from a couple of years back. They kept ambushing the Dlamini routes in an attempt to take over the borders.
“How is that possible when we killed all of them muthafuckas?” Nautica queried.
“Streets saying Peter had a son outside of his wife. He’s the face of their organization now. Tighten up, they were close to Ace and Baby Ace. I gathered as much info on him as I could but I’m sure there’s more we don’t know.”
“A lot more. I tortured the man for seventy-two hours but he didn’t budge.” Nyke had tortured the man who had attempted to ambush his family.
They all quietly examined the contents of the folder.
“I’ll get up with Kemi and see what she knows.
Speaking of Kemi, she was messing with Akio Wong.
He’s the leader of The Golden Tiger syndicate.
His father hired Kemi to kill him. She fell in love with the nigga instead.
He found out and showed up to kill her why my kids were there.
I guess Sawyer heard what was unfolding.
He shot Akio twice, almost killing him. I’m sure his father will connect y’all to me.
I just wanted to let y’all know so everybody is on point. ”
“Wait, nephew did what?” Nautica smirked.
“I was proud as hell too but pissed at the same time. He eight years old, he ain’t got no business knowing how to shoot a gun.”
“Can you blame him, look who his mother is. She ain’t playing with a full deck at all.” Nyke shook his head with a laugh.
“We gon’ have to watch nephew, fasho.” Amari laughed, causing Shadow to laugh.
“Man, who you telling. I been trying to talk to him about it but he acts like it ain’t nothing.” Shadow shrugged, not knowing what else to do.
“My grandson will be just fine. We could use Kemi’s connections right now. Y’all need to end this now before another war breaks out.” Lidar stood, slapping hands with Shadow, Nyke, Amari, and Nautica. He walked out, leaving them to their thoughts.
“I’m out I’m about to go pull up on Kemi.” Shadow stood, slapping hands with everyone.
“Be careful, nigga,” Amari warned. Shadow walked outside to his truck.
He got in, pulling up the address that she had sent yesterday.
Once he had the address in his GPS, he pulled off.
Almost an hour later, he arrived at a beautiful cabin that was tucked away behind trees.
He pulled in the driveway. He got out as Akio walked out on the porch.
Shadow walked up the stairs where Akio was. Kemi stepped outside.
“Wassup, you straight?” Shadow asked, looking her over. She was dressed in a fitted black shirt and gray sweatpants.
“Yeah, I’m okay. Akio, this is Shadow. Shadow, this is Akio,” she introduced the two, hoping they acted like they had some sense.
“Wassup?” Shadow extended his hand.
“You the one I need to see about your son shooting me?” Akio cracked as he slapped hands with him.
“Nah, this is the culprit behind that. Don’t let Kemi fool you. She’s sweet but deadly don’t be fooled.”
“Shut the fuck up!” Kemi looked at Shadow like he was crazy. She was barely out of the doghouse with Akio as it was. She didn’t need her husband making the situation worse. Shadow didn’t miss the way Akio looked at her.
“We need to talk,” Shadow said to her. She walked in the house and he followed. She led him to the den where she had been on the couch watching TV.
“Do you know Peter Grandberry?”
“Why?” Kemi faced him.
“We were at war with them a couple years back. We thought we killed everyone but Lidar believes that Peter’s son Ryan was behind Ace almost being kidnapped.”
“What does that have to do with me, Sawyer?” She focused back on the TV.
“Everything, smart ass, she had their son with them. What about Pryce?” Shadow asked and that gained her attention. She turned to face him once more.
“I know what you’re trying to do. They didn’t target Promise or Pryce—”
“But what if they do?” He challenged, and she folded her arms across her chest.
“Fine, Sawyer. I don’t know who he is but I’ll make some calls.”
“Damn that’s all you had to say in the first place,” Shadow said as Akio entered the room.
“I know who he is. He’s a associate of one of my friends. He just got out of prison. I can set up a sit down.”
“What’s in it for you?” Shadow asked. In their world, nothing was given. Everything came at a cost.
“I want a partnership with you and the Dlamini’s,” he admitted, and Kemi looked at him like he was crazy.
“Arrange the sit down and we’ll talk.” Shadow stood, slapping hands with him.
“Where are the boys?” Kemi followed Shadow to the door.
“With Promise. I’ll see you later. Call me if you need me.” He walked out the door, getting back in his truck. He felt a little better about the Grandberry situation but not too good because he was sure Promise was on their radar as well.
