Chapter 30
Greer was in the bathroom mirror curling her hair.
She was on a cloud. She had been contemplating sleeping with Flash in hopes to rid herself of Amari once and for all.
Then again, when she thought about it, she wondered if she was only wanting to move on after seeing Amari.
She flew to Nashville often but she usually never went past the airport.
Her phone began going off left and right.
She hadn’t posted in a while so she was curious at what had her phone jumping on a Wednesday afternoon.
She picked it up, realizing a bunch of blogs were tagging her in videos of Flash and actress Solina Flynn.
They were on what looked like a vacation all smiles.
Greer’s heart hammered in her chest. She was pissed, hurt, and most of all embarrassed.
The three of them had been tagged in several videos.
She sat on her bed after clicking on Flash’s Instagram story.
He had posted at the same destination Solina was in.
He couldn’t deny being there if he wanted to.
Thanks to social media, she had everything she needed to know.
She tossed her phone down on the bed and went back to curling her hair.
Once she was done, she got dressed in a blue and white collar shirt and the matching shorts.
She stepped into a pair of silver open-toe sandal heels.
She grabbed her white Chanel bag. Footsteps gained her attention, letting her know Flash was there.
Her children were still in Nashville so they were having a date night.
“Hey, baby. You ready to go?”
“Hey,” Greer spoke back as he kissed her lips that were coated in clear gloss.
“What’s wrong with you?” He gripped her hands as he admired her.
“I’m hungry,” she lied.
“Well come on so I can feed my future wife,” he said, and she rolled her eyes. He led her outside to his truck. They got in and he picked her hand up. His phone began going off left and right same as hers was. He picked it up, looking at it.
“What’s wrong?” She played clueless.
“Nothing my niggas keep sending me shit.” He put his phone on silent.
Then, he picked up her hand again. They arrived at Monelo’s.
Valet opened their doors. Greer got out.
Flash joined her on the sidewalk. He placed his hand on the small of her back, leading her up the stairs into the establishment.
They were led to a private room. The lights were dim with candles lighting the room.
“This is beautiful,” Greer cooed. She was trying really hard to focus on the moment and not the fact that her man was cheating on her.
It hadn’t bothered her as much as it did when she caught Amari.
Another reason she was vibing was because she was still a married woman.
She pulled out her vibrating phone from her purse to see Promise was calling.
She pressed ignore, sending her a message to let her know she would call her back.
“Why you on your phone?” Flash asked.
“Is there a reason I shouldn’t be?” She looked him dead in the eyes.
“I was in the Maldives with Solina Flynn this past weekend. Well, I wasn’t with her… She was there, and I was too. The blogs making it seem like we were on vacation. We wasn’t, though,” he quickly explained.
“Let’s go live then?” She sat her phone up, acting as if she was about to go live.
“For what?” Flash asked with a frown on his face.
“Why you lying to me, Flash, knowing that’s why I left my husband.”
“Did you really leave him? You shouldn’t say shit to me. You got me thinking you’re single whole time you and that nigga still married. How can I marry you if you’re somebody else’s wife? That’s probably why you won’t give me no pussy either!” He accused. Greer’s little secret had been exposed.
“How long have you known?”
“Since last week. That’s why I took her out of town; I was mad at you. I was in my feelings. Can we be even and move on from this please, baby?”
“I don’t know. I know I was wrong but I’ve been nothing but loyal to you since we’ve met.
We could have had a conversation about me lying about my marital status but instead, you took a woman out of town for the weekend!
You knew that shit was going to be all over the blogs and what you wanted to embarrass me because what, you feel like I embarrassed you? ”
“Shid you did, I been parading your married ass around. We been doing interviews photoshoots, and the list goes on about our wedding and everything. You foul as fuck.” He was livid.
“You’re right, I’m sorry. I was wrong. I just didn’t know how to tell you. I asked for the divorce; he just refuses to sign.”
“Do you still love him?” He asked, making her cheeks flush red. She wasn’t expecting that question. She didn’t want to lie to him anymore.
“I’ll always love him. I love you, too, baby.”
“Man, you know what I’m asking. Stop playing with me, Greer!” He unintentionally raised his voice. The server walked in all smiles until she looked at them.
“Hi, can you give us a minute, please?” Greer forced a smile.
“Sure. I’m Gina. Take your time, I’ll be back in about ten minutes.” Gina walked out.
“Look, me and my ex haven’t been together in two years. I haven’t seen him since then, well I saw him when we went to my friend’s party in Nashville...”
“You saying all that to say what? Now I feel like I’m wasting my time with you. You’re using me to make that nigga mad.”
“That’s not true! I wanted to be with you! I had just told myself I was ready for the next step in our relationship until I saw you in the blogs with her. Nobody knows I’m still married, but they know I’m in a relationship with you. Think what you want to think.”
She scrolled her phone, getting angrier by the second. There were new photos of them that Solina had posted.
“What you mean you wanted to be with me, G?”
“I don’t want to be with you anymore.” She took the ring off, sliding it across the table. She got up and rushed out. She ordered a Uber as she stood on the sidewalk. Flash walked up, giving valet his ticket.
“Come on, man.” He grabbed her hand as his truck rolled up. She snatched away from him. He chuckled with a shake of his head. Instead of opening her door, he walked around to the driver side. She got in, slamming the door closed.
“Why you doing that like you ain’t in the wrong, too?” He zoomed away from the curb.
“I am wrong for lying but I haven’t cheated on you one time.
You just cheated for the world to see then tried to lie about it.
You brought up my wrong doing to deflect.
I’m not going to let you treat me like shit because you feel like you can ‘cause I lied to you. I didn’t tell you I was married but I specifically told you when we met, I wasn’t looking for nothing serious.
” Her phone continued to buzz in her purse. She shut it off.
“Yet you still took my ring.” He was right, she should have said no but she didn’t want to be the bad guy. After all, he had been her savior after Amari’s heartbreak.
Amari was inside of his truck, sitting in the Walmart parking lot. He looked at the time on the dashboard. A white Maybach pulled in beside him. Greer stepped out and so did he. She froze at the sight of him.
“What are you doing here? Where the kids?” She went to open his back door. Amaya and AJ weren’t in the car.
“Can we talk, Greer, please?” He begged, pulling at her heart strings. She was a mess. She was going through a public breakup. Paparazzi had recorded her and Flash outside of the restaurant two days ago.
“Okay,” she agreed. She got back in her car. He opened the passenger door, getting in. The music played lowly in the background. Amari was a nervous wreck to say the least. He had rehearsed what he was going to say to her but as she sat before him he was drawing a blank.
“You didn’t deserve the way I treated you when you were pregnant with my child.
I know it ain’t nothing I can say to get you to forgive me but I’m sorry, Greer.
I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me one day.
I think about you every day. It hurts like hell watching you be happy with a another nigga but that’s what I deserve, so I suck it up and deal with it and because I don’t want to hurt you any more than I already have.
I never slept with her but I crossed lines I shouldn’t have crossed.
I’m sorry for inviting her to our daughter’s party.
I was moving reckless as hell. I don’t want you to be done with me but If that’s what you want, I’ll sign the papers.
” He lifted his shirt, pulling out the Manila envelope that held their divorce papers.
He was scared to sign them because that meant that she wasn’t his anymore.
However, he had been stalling for two years.
He couldn’t keep putting off the inevitable.
Tears slid down her cheeks as she watched him sign them.
“Don’t cry, ma. I ain’t worth your tears. I’m so sorry for hurting you but I’m willing to let you go.”
“Why now?” She choked out. Amari wiped her tears away just for more to fall. He pulled her into his lap. They hadn’t been that close in a long time.
“Because I have stopped you from being happy—”
“You ruined everything, Amari. We were so happy or at least I was.”
“Baby, I swear, I was happy too. The best moments of my life were spent with you. I ain’t nothing without you, baby, you my heart. My soul is bound to yours, it always will be, whether we together or not because we’re soulmates. I’m just out here existing without you, I need you.”
“Why did you sign the papers?” She sniffled.
“Because I thought that’s what you wanted.” He grabbed the papers, ripping them to shreds. Greer laughed as she wiped her face with the back of her hands.
“Come on, G. Give me another chance. I won’t mess up again.”
“You promise?”
“On you and my kids,” he promised.
“I don’t know, Amari. Some days I love and miss you so much, then there are days I hate you so bad for the way you did me. Then you made me move on to meet another nigga like you.”
“I’m one of one, love, that nigga was just keeping my seat warm. You’re mine, you always will be even when you trying to move on with somebody else.”
“I didn’t want nobody but you.”
“What about now?” Amari gripped her cheeks while they stared into each other’s eyes.
“I still want you,” she lowly admitted, causing him to smirk.
“Only me?” He asked, and she nodded. She figured it was no sense in lying.
