Chapter 27
CHAPTER TWENTY-SEVEN
The entire crew was in his house. He had no idea where to even start looking for Pen.
Wave was on the phone with Thario, and Bang was on his computer.
Cy looked sick, and T was on his phone, searching for information.
Jump came over and pulled him into a hug.
He wanted to rebel against the offer of support.
He wanted to scream at the world and make it crack under his anger.
Instead, he held onto Jump, as he racked his brain for who could have Pen.
His phone rang, and he pulled it from his pocket. It wasn’t Pen, instead Tex had called.
“Do you have any information?” he asked before the phone was even at his ear.
“Maybe. I think it was her father.”
“Where did he take them?”
“There’s this warehouse across the border. It’s near an airstrip. I think that’s where he took them, but you’re going to have to be careful going in. You know the rules.”
“Fuck.”
“Yeah. Don’t get caught. I have someone who can meet you. I’ll send you the coordinates.”
“Thanks, Tex.”
“Don’t mention it. Just bring them home.”
Foster ended the call and the text from Tex came through. “I have a location.”
“We can take my weapons,” Cy said.
Foster shook his head. “We’re going into Mexico. We have to travel light. Tex is putting us in contact with a guy he knows. We’ll get weapons over there.”
“Shit,” Cy said. “I swear, if he harmed one hair on her head, he’ll be dead.”
Pen couldn’t believe her father had control of her again. And this time, she’d gotten her best friend into this shit.
Poor Willa. At least she’d opened her eyes before her father turned the lights off and locked them in this room. After her father had hit Willa the second time, she thought that maybe he’d killed her.
“Pen?” Willa’s whisper sent relief through her.
She scooted closer to Willa, though it was difficult since her wrists and ankles were bound together. “Hey, are you okay?”
“Yeah. Where is he?”
Pen listened for a moment, not hearing any noise. “I don’t know. He probably left to get some food.”
“Where are we?”
“No clue. Can you move your arms or legs?”
“No. They are tied with something.”
“I wonder if we can get them off.”
Willa grunted and wiggled around a little. It was hard to see in the dim light, but at least she could see enough to know Willa was right there with her.
“I can’t get my arm out. Even if I tried really hard, I don’t think I could do it.”
Pen tried to get one hand free, but it was useless. “I don’t think I can get free either.”
She heard a noise, and it sounded like Willa had sat up. Panic slid through Pen.
“Where are you going?”
“I’m going to nose around and see if there is anything that can help us.”
“How are you going to move?”
Willa grunted. “I don’t know, but I’m not going to let him take me lying down.”
Pen heard the words Willa said, and it felt like a dagger to her heart.
She wasn’t taking this lying down. She hadn’t the last time either, but she was bound and there wasn’t anything she could do.
Her father had captured her, binding her wrists and ankles so she couldn’t get away.
She was under his power again. Desperation filled her, and she knew defeat was inevitable.
But what if it wasn’t? What if she could do something to change the outcome?
Pen found a way to push herself up, sitting on her knees. It was painful, but she wouldn’t get anywhere if she stayed on the floor feeling sorry for herself.
“You good?” Willa asked after a moment.
“Yeah. I can’t move much, but I’ve moved a few feet. I haven’t found anything.”
“Neither have I. I’m close to the toilet, almost at the sink on the vanity.”
“Got it. I’m a few feet from the door.”
“So he dumped us in a bathroom. Can you think of anything that would be in a bathroom that could help us?”
Pen tried to come up with something but was drawing a blank. “I’ve got nothing. I hate that he did this. He ruins everything. It’s all my fault. I ruined your life.”
“No, you didn’t. You are not to blame. He is to blame. We’ll figure out a way out of this.”
She heard Willa’s words, but she still felt awful. How could her father be so evil? He ruined everything. Always did.
She’d made her way halfway around the room when she bumped into Willa. “Sorry.”
Willa leaned her forehead against Pen’s shoulder. They stayed like that for a long moment before they dropped to the floor and leaned against the wall.
“I don’t know what to do,” Pen said.
“Neither do I. I hate that there isn’t anything we can do.”
“I can beg for him to let you go.”
Willa shook her head. “It won’t do any good. He seems like a man who doesn’t bend.”
Pen laughed, feeling like the panic was taking over. Soon her laughter turned to sobs. “What are we going to do? There is no way he’ll let you go. He craves money, and he knows people who will buy women.”
Willa leaned against her, resting her head on top of Pen’s. This woman was her best friend, and she couldn’t let anything bad happen to her. Well, anything worse than had already happened. She had to find a way for Willa to escape. Even if it meant she died in the process.
