Chapter 28
CHAPTER TWENTY-EIGHT
They’d made it to Mexico and met with Tex’s contact. The guy had sold them some guns at a good rate, so they at least had supplies. The warehouse was below, but no vehicles sat in the lot. Maybe there was a car on the other side, but none of them thought so.
“We should go in now while no one is there,” T said.
“I’m all for jumping in, but we don’t know how that building is being protected,” Cy said. “The last thing I want to do is put Willa in even more danger.”
Bang took off his night vision goggles. “I don’t see anything that would indicate explosives.”
“We need to get in there before the bastard comes back,” Foster said.
The guys were all silent for a moment. Wave was the first to speak.
“We do need to get in there. I know we don’t have our regular equipment.
We do have coms. This is likely one of our most important missions in a while.
Keep your wits about you. If you shoot and kill, make sure the bullet casings are all picked up. ”
“At least we’ve been wearing gloves since we got the weapons,” T said.
“True, but that guy who sold us the weapons can’t be trusted. We don’t know if he did anything to them.”
“I hate this,” Foster said.
“Hey, man, we’re going to get them both back. We will fuck this guy up until we find them. I swear, if it’s the last thing we do.” Wave spoke with such conviction, that he wondered if the guy was okay. He hadn’t talked to Wave about his sister or his mom in a while. He needed to be a better friend.
They moved out, heading down the slope to the warehouse. The distance wasn’t far, and they were there in minutes. As they approached the door, Foster could hear a car coming over the rise. This could get ugly.
“Someone is approaching,” Foster said.
Cy grunted and Foster knew that grunt was given because they would have to move back and see who was headed their way.
The car could pass them, or it could turn in. If it turned in and they were caught inside the building, they could all end up filled with bullets. It was best to have the better position and watch from outside.
“I’ll circle around the building,” Bang said.
“I’m with Bang,” T added.
Foster and Cy moved back, allowing Wave and Jump to take the better positions on this side and keep watch.
This could be it. Maybe Pen and Willa were in that vehicle. If they were, then there was hope of getting them back.
Time seemed to stretch on as he waited to see where the car was turning. The car blew past the turn but then skidded to a stop and backed up. The guy wasn’t familiar with the area. That could be good news or really terrible news.
Foster moved so it would be impossible for the car to see him.
Lights bounced across the landscape, highlighting trees, and bushes.
There wasn’t much out here. Not much rain fell in the area, making farming difficult.
There were a few cattle ranches, but they needed loads of space even with fewer cattle.
He knew there was cartel activity in the area. Maybe this wasn’t where Pen and Willa were located. This could all be a red herring. Tex could have gotten something wrong, not likely, but he could have.
Foster’s stomach cramped as he waited. This wasn’t where he wanted to be, or what he wanted to be doing.
He wanted Pen at home. They didn’t have to be intimate.
Heck, she didn’t even have to want a relationship with him.
He could deal with being just friends, as long as she was safe.
That’s all that mattered. Her being safe was the only thing he wanted for her.
He sent up a prayer as the car pulled up close to the warehouse. There was only one acceptable conclusion to this mess, and that was finding Pen and Willa.
