Chapter six

Remington

I watch Colton cross the street. When he reaches the other side, he stops and turns to wave. Smiling, I wave back as he vanishes around the corner into McQueen’s parking lot.

Watching him disappear from sight, I resist the urge to chase after him.

I try to ignore the agonizing ache in my chest. The feeling that I’m letting something important slip away.

That it’s a mistake to let him go. It’s a feeling I’ve never experienced with anyone else and it’s both exhilarating and terrifying.

Luckily, Danny’s arrival works to prevent me from chasing Colton down. “Morning, RJ. How was your night?”

I don’t tell him it was the most amazing night of my life. “It was good,” I respond instead, grinning like a lunatic. “Very good.”

Our car pulls up and, after stowing our bags in the trunk, we slide into the backseat and pull away from the curb. A few minutes later, my phone pings with a text.

Colton: Hello gorgeous. This is the man you spent the night having incredible sex with.

I chuckle at my screen as my stomach somersaults. I really like this man.

Hmm, I have a vague recollection of that.

Colton: I want to see you again, Remi. I want to take you to dinner and get to know everything about you. Will you go out with me when you get back to town?

I’m smiling as I type my reply.

Yeah. Yes, I’d like that.

Colton: I’ll be counting the minutes, waiting impatiently for you to return to me. Safe travels, Remi.

Gah, this man.

Speak soon. Bye, Colton.

I relax into the seat and close my eyes with a sigh while Danny pokes around on his tablet.

After we arrive at the airport, get through security, and find our seats, I fall asleep on the plane with a goofy grin on my face.
