17. Deja McCoy

DEJA MCCOY

“You heard me, Deja? Give me the baby, so I can lay her down in the crib,” Eden, my godsister’s voice snapped me out of the flashbacks that I was having.

I couldn’t get the shit out of my head that Wolf was over there doing to me.

It stayed on my mind. I woke up in the morning, and I thought about that dick.

I could be at work, and I would think about that dick.

This was the craziest one yet… but I could be on top of that dick and still be thinking about it.

That dick had crack in it. Something was inside of it because it’s no way in hell that I was this far gone off it, and he’s only been fuckin me for a week now.

“No. Move. I just got her,” I said to Eden, reaching my hand out, trying to move her out of the way.

We were all over here at Eden’s townhouse.

I had the night off from the club, so we put a little girls night together at Eden’s house, so we could come see her, and baby Selah.

I brought Nari and Nico with me too. I wanted to get Nari out of the house because these past few weeks, my little sister has been going through it.

The girls night was set to start at 8:00 P.M., but I grabbed Nari, and Nico around 6, so that we could stop and go out to eat first. I knew how much my sister loved Japanese restaurants, and eating hibachi, so I thought that she would be happy with that, but she really wasn’t.

She barely ate her food. She took most of it to-go.

She was so checked out when it came to Nico too.

When he woke up crying in the restaurant, it was as if she didn’t hear him.

I was the one to pull him out of the stroller and tend to him.

When we arrived at Eden’s house not too long ago, she gave hugs to all the women and then asked Eden if she could go to the back room to lay down. She’s been back there since we got here.

I hated that my sister was only seventeen, and she had to deal with postpartum depression like this.

“I’m giving you ten more minutes to hold her, and then I’m taking her to the back. She’s too spoiled, Deja. When she’s up, if anyone isn’t holding her, she’ll sit there and cry until somebody picks her up,” Eden nagged, still standing in front of me.

I looked up at my godsister in awe. She was so beautiful.

Just had a baby a month ago, but she looked how she did before she got pregnant.

Eden was on the smaller side. Short, and very petite.

Even when she carried Selah, she was all belly, so it was easy for her to drop the little weight that she gained while pregnant.

She was choosing to breastfeed her daughter, so she stood there in one of her nursing bras because she had been sitting on the couch not too long ago, using one of her portable pumps.

Eden knew she wasn’t going to get this baby from me, especially since it wasn’t every day that I could just pop up, and hold Selah, so she eventually walked away, and sat back down on the couch.

My best friend, Dream was here, and she was sitting not too far away from me.

As I lay on my back, my feet was in her lap.

She had her arm draped across my legs, while she paid attention to whatever was on her phone.

Lyric was here as well. Even though Lyric was my friend that I met at the club, I brought her around years ago to meet my friend group, and she clicked with everyone.

Lyric had honestly become family. Even right now, she sat on the floor, holding Nico in her lap, playing with him.

One would think that she was his auntie or something.

We were all chilling in the living room. There was a bottle of wine sitting on the small table, and we were almost finished with the bottle. Eden was the only one that wasn’t drinking with us.

I went ahead and looked down at Selah. She was sleeping comfortably on my chest, resting like she worked a full-time job today.

She was already in her little pajamas, with her booties on her feet.

Her head wasn’t covered, so I was able to lean down, and place little kisses on top of her head.

I was so in love with this little girl. She made me want to tell my godsister to pack her a bag, so she could come home with me.

“Best, you looking at that baby a little too hard. You want one?” Dream asked me, causing me to take my eyes off Selah, so I could look at her.

Best was the nickname that me, and Dream would call each other. It was short for best friend. Since she was sitting right next to me when she made that comment, I picked one of my feet up that was resting in her lap and playfully kicked her.

“She over there staying with Wolf. You never know. It just might happen one day,” Lyric threw that in.

“I still don’t understand the whole dynamic on how you started staying over there with the nigga in the first place.

It went from him giving you a ride home from Range Rover.

Ya’ll hung out one night after he popped up on you at the club, and now all of a sudden, you’re staying with him?

We’re not judging you. Trust me, I think all of us would be standing in line to stay the night with that nigga.

Sister, just make it make sense to us though.

I know you, Deja. You don’t even like staying the night at people’s house, so what’s the real tea? ” Eden went ahead and asked.

The girls still didn’t know the full story. I didn’t want to talk about it, but since we were having girls night, I knew that they were going to keep pushing, so I may as well say something now.

I thought about where I should start. I knew it was going to get super loud in here once I put them up on game, but I went ahead and got it off my chest. Hell, it was killing me anyways, not being able to vent.

“Hitta has a baby on the way with Obsession,” I threw the first part out there, and after I did it, they all gasped simultaneously.

I mean, each one of them stopped what they were doing, and focused their attention on me. Lyric even stopped playing around with Nico. She picked him up and placed him in her lap.

“Wait, so it was true? How did you find out?” Lyric wanted to know, remembering that night at the club, when I was in the bathroom crying, after finding out that Obsession might have been pregnant.

“I went over to his house a couple of weeks ago. Used the bathroom, and his phone was on the nightstand, going off with notifications. I guessed the password, and he walked in. That nigga told me that I was going to have to seek therapy once I got a hold of what was in his text messages. We tussled over that fuckin phone, ya’ll.

I saw the message thread between him, and Obsession.

The bitch sent her ultrasound pictures to him.

There were pictures of him kissing her belly, and all kinds of other shit.

Hitta was already in a fucked up mood because he just lost so much money on a ticket.

I said some hurtful shit to him about his mom, and he beat my ass,” I went ahead, and got it off my chest, and from there, they all started screaming at me, voices going off a mile per minute.

“That’s the mental break that you needed, and why you weren’t answering the phone? Bitch, you were over there healing your wounds. What the fuck, Deja! You should have killed his ass!” Eden was pissed.

I knew she would be the one that was angriest out of everyone because she was super overprotective of me. My aunt’s reaction would be even worse, which is why I didn’t ever plan on telling her.

“Yeah. I don’t like that at all. How did you end up with Wolf though? That’s the part that still doesn’t make sense to me,” Dream noted.

“Ya’ll believe in fate?” I asked them. I wanted to get deeper with them before I shared how I ended up at Wolf’s house.

“Yeah. In a sense. I believe everything happens for a reason,” Dream responded first.

“I don’t. I feel like whatever happens was meant to happen. Why you ask that?” Lyric inquired.

“That’s how I used to feel. You know I never used to believe in fate, fairytales, happily ever after, none of those things.

I don’t know ya’ll. I think I’m changing my mind.

That night all that shit happened at Hitta’s house, I’m rushing to get home.

My eyes were swelling up, so I could barely see.

I ended up pulling the car over on the side of the road, and I guess I passed out—”

“Deja, what the fuck! Swollen eyes? Passed out? You kept all that shit from us? Move, I’m so fuckin annoyed with you,” Dream spat, picking my feet up, so she could remove them from her lap, and stand up.

Eden and Lyric chimed in as well, agreeing with what Dream just finished saying.

“I know. I know. Be mad at me later but let me finish the story. I woke up in the hospital, and Wolf was right there on the side of the bed. Out of everybody in Miami, it was him who saw my car pulled over on the side of the road. That’s what I mean when I talk about believing in fate.

He hasn’t left my side since that night.

Hell, he hasn’t allowed me to leave his side.

He’s the one that took me to the hospital.

Went to the store to get my prescription.

Making sure I was taking my medicine. Cooking for me.

Getting me out the house when I started going crazy being inside all day,” I shared, and once I started saying these things to them, I noticed the way their faces softened a little bit.

“Ya’ll know how I feel like men only do nice shit for women because their expecting something in return? Well, he never made me feel that way. He never felt like I owed him shit. Never tried making a move on me. He’s been there for me these past couple of weeks. That’s the update,” I went on.

The girls couldn’t believe none of these things. They were hitting me with back-to-back questions, and I would answer them. I wanted them to get as many questions out of their system now because after tonight, I didn’t want to talk about Hitta anymore.
