Havoc

We should’ve known it wasn’t over.

The third location is quieter than the others.

Too quiet.

No guards outside.

No movement inside.

Just a single building sitting in the middle of nothing.

Blaze slows as we approach.

“This feels wrong.”

“Yeah,” I say.

“Because it is.”

We move anyway.

We always do.

The door gives too easily.

That’s the first sign.

“Clear left,” Ace mutters.

“Clear right,” Wolf adds.

I step further inside.

Eyes scanning.

Brain working angles.

Exits.

Entry points.

Then I see it.

Wires.

Thin.

Nearly invisible.

Running along the base of the wall.

“Back—” I start.

Too late.

The explosion rips through the building.

Heat.

Force.

Sound.

Everything hits at once.

I’m thrown sideways.

Hard.

Air leaves my lungs.

My head cracks against something solid.

Then—

Nothing.
