It shatters against the floor.
Rylie turns instantly.
“What is it?”
I don’t know.
That’s the problem.
My heart is racing.
My hands are shaking.
And I don’t know why.
“I—” I swallow.
“I don’t know.”
Trigger looks over from the door.
Sharp.
Focused.
“What happened?”
“I think…” I press a hand to my chest.
“Something’s wrong.”
Silence settles around us.
Heavy.
Rylie steps closer.
“You felt something.”
I looked at her and felt like I would cry.
“Yes.”
I don’t have another word for it.
I just know.
Deep in my bones.
Dylan looks up from the table.
“What’s wrong, Mom?”
I force a breath.
“Nothing, honey.”
But Buddy stands.
Ears forward.
Low whine.
And that’s when the radio crackles.
