Chapter 54 Havoc
Havoc
Sound comes back first.
Muffled.
Distant.
Like I’m underwater.
Then pain.
Sharp.
Immediate.
Everywhere.
I try to move.
Bad idea.
“Nash!”
Blaze’s voice cuts through the haze.
I blink.
Vision swimming.
Dust in the air.
Debris everywhere.
“I’m here,” I manage.
My voice doesn’t sound right.
Blaze drops beside me.
“You’re bleeding.”
“Yeah,” I mutter.
“Figured.”
I push up on one arm.
Pain shoots through my side.
My shoulder.
My ribs.
“Don’t move,” Blaze says.
“Not an option.”
I tried to sit up anyway.
Because that’s what I do.
Because stopping isn’t in me.
Wolf appears through the dust.
“You took the blast,” he says.
“Lucky me.”
Blood drips down my arm.
Warm.
Steady.
Blaze grabs my vest and raises me to a sitting position.
“Sit still, Havoc.”
“I’m fine.”
He glares at me.
“You’re not.”
He’s right.
But that doesn’t matter.
“Status?” I ask.
“Building’s clear,” Ace says. “But it was a trap.”
Of course it was.
I nod once.
Processing.
Adapting.
Moving forward.
Because that’s what we do.
Even when it hurts.
