Chapter 6 #3
“Great. I couldn’t stop smiling all day. I know that people already know about it, but it was like I was holding onto a golden secret.” He told her that he knew just what she meant. “I’ve had several phone calls today from my sister. She’s in the hospital right now.”
“Is it something serious? I can see her if you want.” She smiled at him, and he felt like he could take on Robin and come out on top.
She told him why she was in the hospital.
“They’ll keep her for a few days if not more.
Although I’ve never had a patient on that floor before, I would imagine that she’s not going to be liking the rules that they have up there. ”
“She’s been in there so much to teach me a lesson, I think they pretty much let her do what she wants.
It’s easier that way.” He thought that it would be with her temperament.
“I told her nurse that I’d get around to seeing her when I could.
I’m not going to run right in there for her to be holding something over me again. I have more important things to do.”
“Like loving your mate.” She smiled at him, and he couldn’t help but grin back at her. “I’ve been thinking about you all day. Not in a sexual way, though there is that too. But just that, in less than a week, we went from strangers to married. I love that.”
“You have that thing with your brother in the morning. I’m going to go to work and try to act like nothing is going on.” He said that his brother has postponed changing Mac now six times. “He’s afraid of hurting her, isn’t he?”
“There is that, but he’s also afraid of killing her.
Anything could go wrong, and while I don’t blame him for being afraid, I wish he’d just do it instead of changing the date all the time.
It makes me scheduling appointments difficult to get done.
” She asked if he’d change her if he was allowed.
“Yes. In a heartbeat. But we have to have permission from the king of our kind. He’d not turned anyone down for a while now, but he has final say in it.
I’d love to go running with you in the woods.
Big cats love to have fun with their mates.
I would imagine that little cats do as well, but I know that bigger cats are just like small ones and love to prance around all the time. ”
He thought about his brother and his mate, Mac.
Reagan could understand why he’d be afraid.
Aaron would need to bite Mac four times in different parts of her body.
The wounds would be open until she was able to get enough tiger saliva in her system to heal.
It was chancy to do, changing someone, but he thought that his brother was putting too much time into thinking of the things that could go wrong.
Aaron had always been like that. Very cautious and an overthinker.
After dinner, the two of them cleaned up the mess he’d made.
She told him about the time they were finishing up washing the dishes that she would cook from now on, and he’d clean up.
He thought it very unfair of her, but laughed when she said she’d been teasing him.
It had been a mess, and he didn’t like the cleanup of things.
“Tomorrow I’ll hire us a cook. She’s already been cleared through background checks, so we won’t have to worry about someone coming in who’s not going to be able to stay here.
The rest of the staff will start next week, and I can’t wait.
I never realized how much dust could be accumulated in a single person’s house before.
” She said that she had started to dust things in the living room, but got caught up in sitting on the couch.
“Yes, I know. They’re the most comfy couches that I’ve ever sat in. ”
They had never talked about sex, but he was hoping that she’d want it soon.
He wasn’t going to rush her, never would he do that, but he was going to bed hard and waking up just as hard.
Twice now he’d taken cold showers when he got up in the morning, but nothing could have prepared him for watching her stretch when she was standing up from the couch.
He wasn’t going to make it, he thought, if she continued to hold him off when it came to sleeping together.
Not that he thought they’d get much in the way of sleep, but he could always dream.
He was cleaning the little table that she’d gotten at the auction when his cell phone rang.
Pulling it out to see who it could be, he was surprised that it was the hospital.
Saying his name, he waited while the person on the other end explained why they called.
Apparently, Robin was having trouble in the hospital, and she asked if they’d call him.
“What sort of trouble is she having? I mean, I’ve never seen her as a patient, so I have no records of her at all.
” The nurse told him that she didn’t have a therapist and that she needed one for her meds.
“I have no one to recommend at all. I know a couple that might be taking patients, but I can’t know that for sure. ”
“If you could tell me the names, I’ll get with them and see if they could help her out.
She’s demanding meds be given to her, but without a doctor to tell us what to give her, we have our hands tied.
She’s very vocal on her diagnoses, isn’t she?
” He said that he’d only spoken to her a couple of times, but found that to be true.
He gave her the names of the two people that he’d gone to college with who had changed to being psychiatrists in mid-term.
“I’ll give them a call right now. Her previous doctor will not treat her anymore.
He didn’t say why, but he said that he’d told Ms. Winters that he wasn’t going to be her doctor anymore and that she needed to find someone else.
I don’t know that she tried. She claims that Doctor Winston is her doctor and she’ll see no one else. ”
“I don’t know what to tell you on that score.
She has been notified that he won’t see her anymore.
I know that she’s tried to get me to see her, but I’m not taking any new patients right now, so that’s not going to work.
Not to mention I’m not a therapist.” She said she’d try these other names.
“Thank you for calling me. But I’m sorry.
I can’t help her. Not to mention I’m married to her sister, and I think that would cause trouble as well. ”
“She’s been asking about her sister since she was brought in.” When she didn’t say anything more, neither did he. “Thank you for your help, doctor Dresden.”
After the connection was closed, he finished up what he was doing.
Even for his perfect house, there were things that he had to do.
About the time he thought that he’d gotten it all straightened out, something else would come along, and he’d have to repair it.
Reagan didn’t mind. It was better than having to build, he’d discovered. He loved his house.
At midnight, he was ready for bed. Blake had gone up hours ago, and he’d been tinkering with some of the things he still had on his list of things to do.
It wasn’t much, but it kept his mind busy and his body exhausted by the time he got into bed.
Tomorrow he had patients at eight in the morning, and he was finding that he was looking forward to it.
