Chapter 1

Chapter One

The scenery of the open road is ever changing. One week on the road, riding across the large state; Traveling through the hill country, the plains, the desert, the woods and ending on the coast. But nothing compares to home. Even if it smells like spilt beer and stale fries.

Technically, this isn’t home.

I yank my helmet off and stroll up to the double doors to The Scrape. I hold the door open for the thirty-two men and women happy to be home after our week’s long charity ride. I make my way up to the bar, searching for the woman who draws me in like honey and I’m the mother-fucking bee.

The Scrape Bar I’m six-foot-three, milk-chocolate-skinned, black hair, light brown eyes, and athletic.

We both played football and baseball through high school and college.

I don’t know what my life would be like without Cal…

granted I helped him by investing in his auto shop, Cal taught me what it means to be family.

My dad was always away on business and my mom died when I was a toddler.

His family took me in, fed me, and cheered me on whenever my dad couldn’t.

My dad showed up when he could and when it mattered.

“I’m on it. But why?”

“Tuesday and Wednesday he disappeared with Isabel and it rubbed me the wrong way.”

“You know he and Mary went to Isabel’s swinger parties,” I point out.

Isabel is a mutual friend of ours and the Vice-President of the Lightning Rods.

She’s most popular during these rides for hosting orgies and always having someone new in her bed.

She has no morals when it comes to married couples.

“I don’t care if in the past he and Mary chose to join in on whatever Isabel does…

but I do care that Mary is seven months pregnant and stayed home this time around,” he reminds me.

Hearing it out loud does make it sound fucked up.

I just always assumed they had an open marriage…

but then again… I wouldn’t leave Tori alone when she was pregnant with our first child.

“You think he’s planning somethin’ with the Lightnin’ Rods?” I question.

“I think… something is off. I don’t know what Josiah and Mary’s relationship status is or what their rules are. But somethin’ ain’t right and I don’t know what it is, yet.”

“Alright. I’ll run the numbers and keep a close eye on him,” I assure him with a nod.

“I’m goin’ home. I want to fuck my wife and sleep in my own bed.” He dismisses himself, walking towards the door.

“Give Maribel my love,” I yell out after him.

Cal flips me off and I chuckle.
