Chapter 2

Chapter Two

After a much-needed restroom visit, I head back to the bar where Onyx serves other Vultures. She’s laughing with one of the female riders, and the sound sends heart soaring. I take back my seat where my drink is no longer waiting.

“Well, that’s annoyin’,” I mumble to myself.

“Hi Mr. Caldwell. What can I get ya?” Yazmin, the other bartender, smiles at me.

“Hey Yaz,” I politely greet her. “A bourbon and coke.”

“Gotcha, boss. Which-“

“I got it, Yaz.” The brown eyed beauty brings over a fresh drink. Yazmin excuses herself with a blush and leaves to tend to the others.

Her dazzling smile is aimed at me, then she sips my drink before handing it to me. “Would you like anythin’ else?”

“I can eat.” I lick the rim of my glass, right where she placed her lips then throws back the rest of my drink.

“I’m sure you can.” She smirks, turns on her heel over to the food window and grabs a plate. “Here ya go.”

I examine the food; Steak, fries, and… steamed broccoli? “I didn’t order this?”

“Your wife put the order in. Is somethin’ wrong with the food?” She fucking smirks.

“Yeah, there’s broccoli.”

“Oh, your wife said you’d say that. So, she told me to tell ya to suck it up and eat your vegetables.” She beams and I fight the urge to scoff. She winks and damn does it do something to me.

The next thirty minutes, she runs about the restaurant as the Vultures begin to leave.

There were only a few members that stayed at the bar, most of which were those who didn’t ride with us this week.

I watch her as I eat, including the broccoli, while nursing a second bourbon and coke.

The fluidity of her movements are like a delicate dance in her polished cowgirl boots, one I commit to memory.

A show I can watch over and over until we can get away with our indiscretion again…

because there will be another indiscretion, I’ll make sure of it.

She disappears toward the bathroom for several minutes.

When she returns with a swing in her step and a huge smile on her lips I count the minutes until closing.

The sun has long set and I’m eager to have her all to myself.

Not eager, desperate. We don’t often have nights like this, and I want to make the most of it.

The gorgeous bartender returns as I finish and grins when she sees my empty plate. She takes it from me and automatically pours me another drink as though it’s a reward.

“So, Knox. Why didn’t your wife join you on the ride?” she asked. She hands me my new drink and my fingers brush hers, triggering the goosebumps to rise on her visible skin.

“She couldn’t get away. We have two kids and a business together. Unfortunately, it was her turn to stay behind,” I answered, taking a sip of my drink.

“Does that mean you’ll stay behind next time while she takes off?”

“It means she’ll come with me.” I watch her as she turns around and grabs a bottle of tequila and a couple of shot glasses. “But she’s not here now; Fortunately for you she doesn’t expect me home until tomorrow.”

“Is that so?” She takes a lime and runs it over a shot glass’ rim then turns it over into a tray of salt. “What about the steak?”

“Onyx, I’m here every night. My wife didn’t call.” I give her a pointed look.

She focuses on pouring tequila into the two salted glasses. “I suppose I might’ve known your Saturday night order and lied about your wife callin’ it in.” She hands me a shot topped with a lime wedge. “Funny enough, my husband is out of town until tomorrow.” Her eyes twinkle.

“That is funny.” I raise my glass to toast with hers. We shoot them back, immediately following it up with the lime.

“No kids?” I ask through the sting of the lime. She is more of a pro when it comes to tequila.

“They’re with my mom tonight. So, I have the place all to myself.”

“Interestin’.” I narrow my eyes at her watching her make herself a drink. “You off the clock?”

“My husband owns the bar. I can do what I want when he’s away.” She coyly lifts her brows in challenge.

“Now that’s a dangerous game. The owner’s wife flirtin’ with a married client. Oh Onyx, what kind of trouble are you gettin’ us into?”

She eyes me up and down, tilting her head in observation… contemplating. “How long have you been with your wife?”

“Oh well, she’s my college sweetheart. Ten years, married for nine.” I tap the rim of my glass. “Just bourbon this time.”

“Liquid courage?” She grabs a clean glass and pours it over ice. Being here as often as I am, she clearly knows how I like my drinks.

“Perhaps.” I grin, grabbing the glass.

“Does your wife frequently come to this bar?” She says, as she drinks her margarita on the rocks.

“You could say that. She’s usually at home with the kids so free time is tough for her,” I answer. “She joins me when she can spare the time between work and the children.”

“Tsk tsk. Sounds to me like you love your wife. And yet, you’re here… always.” She bends over the counter until her chin rests on her fist, giving me a spectacular view of her cleavage.

“It comes with the job,” I say.

“Wouldn’t you want to go straight home after a ride this long?” The brow she raises has me question whether she wants to continue playing our game or not.

I tread carefully, knowing whatever I say next could condemn me and result in a lengthy conversation with my wife and not Onyx.

“The things I want to do tonight- let’s just say she won’t get any sleep and nor will I- and she needs all the sleep she can get.

I know my wife well enough to know that she won’t like the dirty,” I pause, and finish the rest of my drink back.

I narrow my glare at her. “Filthy… things I need. She deserves a gentleman who makes love to her when I return home… and I am in no mood to be a gentleman.”

The brown eyed goddess straightens her stance and… that sexy curl of her lip… Fuck yes. I won.

“Need a place to stay tonight? Knox?” She emphasizes the name I’ve given her.

I lean back, rubbing my hand over my beard and mustache… imagining all the ways I want to take her. “In fact, Onyx, I do.”

“But isn’t there a ‘no cheating on your wife’ rule? Daddy Vulture frowns upon it.” She licks the salt off the rim and finishes off her drink. That tongue… fuck waiting until we get to a bed. I want her now.

“Fuck the rules.” I growl, jumping off the barstool and leaning forward over the counter, coaxing her to do the same. “Bathroom. NOW,” I whisper-yell.

“Yazmin. I’ll be in the back. You and Terry are on your own.” She announces to the other bartender.

“Of course. Have fun, Tor- I mean Onyx. Mr. Caldwell.” Yazmin laughs as she waves, unperturbed by our antics.

She grabs my hand and pulls me toward the office. I shake my head and yank her back towards the bathroom.
