MOOT STATEMENT

As the national representative body of all witches within the United States, we urge caution and issue reassurance regarding the Witchcraft Registration Act passed today by Congress.
It is only three months since the shocking events at Bittershore, which resulted in complex allegations of felonious witchcrime yet to be resolved in a court of law.
We trust today’s passing of the Witchcraft Registration Act is not an over-hasty response to sensationalised reporting of those events.
The Moot maintains its own database – the Ledger – of all Persons of Magical Potential. This has always been available to federal and other secular agencies, and the Moot co-operates fully with justified disclosure.
We remind all Americans that any witch practising magic must be licensed by the Moot, and is held to the highest standards, including regular review. Incidence of crime among the magical population is less than one third that of the general population.
We note that the Assessment Program involves the harvesting of genetic materials from those tested.
As anyone who has ever consulted one of America’s many dedicated trained witches will know, such samples are magically potent.
We urge federal and secular authorities to exercise extreme care that these samples are stored securely and are not vulnerable to misuse.
With these concerns noted, we look forward to working with the relevant bodies on the responsible implementation of the new Assessment Program and Database.
