Chapter 29
REED
Lexie nervously sways back and forth as we wait for someone to come to the door.
“Hey.” I say to her and turn her towards me. “Why are you nervous?”
She flicks her eye towards the door then back up to me, “This is new.” She shrugs and looks away from me.
I lift my hand and grab her jaw turning her back towards me, “This is Lainey we are talking about. She’s chill and would probably be ecstatic that we can double date. She always tells me how I need a woman in my life.” I smirk at her and the side of her mouth starts to lift.
The door swings open making her jump.
Lainey stands in the doorway, “Well hello guys. Fancy seeing you two… here… together… again.” She tilts her head playfully and Lexie snatches the bag of burritos out of my hand.
“We brought burritos.” She holds the bag out to Lainey and she chuckles.
“Sounds good, where did you get them from?”
Lexie looks over to me nervously and I place my arm around her shoulder as we walk through the door following her friend.
“I made them.”
Lainey whips her head around to look at me, “You can cook?”
I clutch my chest, “Of course I can cook.”
Neither Lainey nor Kalix has made another comment about Lexie and I arriving together, but Lainey keeps giving us the look like she knows something is up.
We pass around this new strain that Lexie wanted to try, Pink Lemonade, before I hand out the burritos.
Lexie pushes up the sleeves on her hoodie, “Anyone else hot in here?” She says looking around at the group.
“Nah.” Kalix says as he stuffs his face.
Lainey wipes her mouth before talking, “No. I can turn the fan on though.”
Lexie shakes her head, “No it’s okay. I don’t want anyone else to get cold.”
“Why don’t you just take the hoodie off.” I quirk and eyebrow at her and she quirks one back at me.
She rolls her eyes then lifts the hoodie over her head and a gasp sounds from Lainey.
“Oh. My. God. Lexie! What happened to your neck…. And shoulders??” She leans forward to get a better look and Lexie immediately goes to grab her hoodie but I’m too quick.
Her eyes blow wide “Reed, give me that!” She squeaks.
I smile and ignore her, “Lainey, like my artwork?”
Her mouth forms into an O as she looks between the both of us.
She points at me while looking at Lexie, “Reed gave you that hickey from the other day! I fucking knew it.” She shoves Kalix’s shoulder and turns her attention to me.
Her facial expression turns serious as she threatens me, “I swear to god, Reed. If you fucking hurt her, I’ll chop your goddamn balls off. ”
Lexie laughs as the high settles in and slaps a hand over her mouth.
I smirk and turn my attention to my Honeybee, “I could never.”
A few hours and smoke sessions later, we are all toasted.
I lean over and whisper in Lexie’s ear, “You’re staying with me tonight.”
She giggles, “Oh, you think so?”
I lean in just a smidge closer and say, “I know so.” Before kissing under her ear.
She squirms and says out loud, “Okay, I’m ready for bed.”
Kalix snickers, “I don’t think she means sleep.”
Lexie blushes and Lainey punches Kalix in the arm. “Leave her alone.”
Kalix throws his hands up, “I didn’t say anything was wrong with that.”
I shake my head and hold out my hand to help Lexie up. “Come on, let's get you to bed.” I say with a smirk and she smiles while rolling her eyes at me.
