Epilogue

Bella

Two Years Later

I’m standing in the kitchen of our new house - a beautiful colonial in the suburbs with a big backyard and plenty of room for our growing family - when I hear the sound of children’s laughter.

I look out the window and see Adrian playing with Sophia, Alexander, and our youngest daughter, Ava, who just turned one. They’re running through the sprinklers, all of them soaking wet and laughing.

My heart swells with love.

This is my life. This is my family. This is everything I never knew I needed.

Sarah comes up beside me, her own baby daughter on her hip. “You’ve got a good life, Bella.”

“I do,” I say, smiling. “I really do.”

“You deserve it,” Sarah says, squeezing my shoulder. “After everything you went through, you deserve all of this happiness.”

I think about Marcus, locked away in prison. I think about the wedding that never happened. I think about the woman I was back then - broken and lost and unsure of her worth.

And I realize that I’m grateful for all of it. Because it led me here. It led me to Adrian, to my children, to this beautiful life.

“I’m happy,” I say, and I mean it with every fiber of my being. “I’m so incredibly happy.”

That evening, after the kids are in bed and Sarah and James have gone home, Adrian and I are sitting on the back porch, watching the fireflies dance in the darkness.

“Do you ever think about that day?” Adrian asks. “The day I found you?”

“All the time,” I admit. “It was the worst day of my life. But it was also the beginning of the best thing that ever happened to me.” I shake my head, smiling. “I guess, looking back on it, it was actually the best day of my life.”

Adrian nods half to himself, a thoughtful look on his face. “Perspective,” he agrees. “I think about it too, you know,” Adrian says, taking my hand. “I think about how close I came to not being there. How different things could have been.”

“But you were there,” I say, squeezing his hand. “And now we have this beautiful life together.”

“We do,” Adrian agrees, pulling me closer. “And I wouldn’t change a single thing.”

“Neither would I,” I say, resting my head on his shoulder.

We sit there in comfortable silence, listening to the sounds of the night - crickets chirping, the distant sound of traffic, the rustle of leaves in the breeze.

And I think about how far I’ve come. How much I’ve grown. How much I’ve healed.

I think about the broken vows that led me here. The betrayal that shattered me. The man who picked up the pieces and helped me put myself back together.

I think about the revenge plot that turned into real love. The partnership that became a marriage. The family we’ve built from the ashes of my broken dreams.

And I realize that sometimes, the worst things that happen to us lead to the best things in our lives.

Sometimes, broken vows lead to true love.

Sometimes, endings are really just beginnings.

“I love you,” I whisper to Adrian.

“I love you too,” Adrian says, kissing the top of my head. “Always and forever.”

“Always and forever,” I echo.

And as I sit there in Adrian’s arms, surrounded by the life we’ve built together, I know with absolute certainty that I’m home.

This is where I belong.

This is where I’ve always belonged.

With Adrian. With our children. With this beautiful, imperfect, perfect life.

What started as revenge ended with me finding happiness.

What started as broken vows ended with true love.

And I wouldn’t have it any other way.
