Chapter 5 #2
We were flying into Miami to close a deal with a new client, some bigwig Nigerian Chief by the name of Samuel Okoye, who was looking to buy heavy-duty weapons.
I thought it would be the best to meet on neutral ground, plus once the deal was over, I wanted to spend a few days enjoying the Miami nightlife.
I planned on making use of my condo this weekend.
Throwing the covers off me, I slide out the bed and make my way to the bathroom to take a quick shower.
A thought crosses my mind about Matilda, she didn’t even ask to freshen up before going back out there.
See, that nasty shit was another strike against her.
I couldn’t tolerate an unclean woman. Thank God I used protection with her ass.
I took a quick shower and handled my hygiene.
Once I finished, I put a classic black tailored suit with a white dress shirt underneath.
I left the first three buttons undone, showing off my gold chains.
I brushed the top of my hair back as I gaze in the mirror at my reflection.
It wasn’t as long at the top like it was when I was younger, but it still had some length.
My low mustache and beard still looked fresh from my trip to the barber yesterday.
After spraying on some cologne then putting my rings on, I exited the room and went to take my seat.
Matilda winks at me as I make my way down the aisle but ignore her. When we get back to Italy, I’m going to have to see about replacing her. I can tell now that my actions have put false hope in her head.
“You good, boss?” Piero asks from the aisle across from me. I glanced towards the back, peering at four of my best men. Nicco, Giuseppe, and Victor were my muscle and skilled in weaponry, and the other, Angelo, was a computer geek who could access any computer known to mankind.
“Yeah, I’m good. I just want this to be over with. I need some R me.
I was all about building my family’s empire, and the thought of settling down with anyone was out of the question.
“No, not this time. I’m looking for something new.” I reply, buckling my seat belt.
“Understood,” Piero states, getting comfortable in his chair as the jet starts to descend.
As the tires of the jet screech when the pilot touches the ground, I hold onto the armrests of my chair. I have taken many flights, but this part always gives me an eerie feeling. I finally let out a sigh of relief when the jet comes to a halt. There had to be a better way of landing a plane.
Once the pilot cleared us to depart the jet, I let Piero, Angelo, and one of my men go ahead.
I followed them with the other two behind me.
When I passed Matilda, she grabbed my hand, batting her eyes at me.
Some women never got the hint, I thought to myself as I pulled my hand from hers and went down the stairs.
Two cars were waiting for us when we left the jet.
In the first car would be me, Piero, Angelo, and one of my muscle, while the other two followed in the second behind us.
I didn’t want to waste any time on this deal, so I made sure it took place an hour after landing.
Angelo suggested a spot that was in an industrial area where the client would feel comfortable.
He researched the area and found there was barely any traffic.
If anything went down, it would take the boys in blue almost thirty minutes to get there, which gave us enough time to get the hell out of dodge.
Everything was set. The guns were already at the shipyard.
Snaps, the guy who works for me here, was there with his men waiting on the okay to turn them over to the client’s people.
All the client had to do was transfer my fee to my Swiss bank account, and our business would be done.
As we rode to the checkpoint, I called Dominique to see what she was up to.
“What do you want, big head?” She teases, answering the phone.
“Well, hello to you too, brat,” I reply.
She giggles. “Aren’t you supposed to be enjoying the fun and sun of Miami? Speaking of which I’m still not happy, you haven’t given me the spare key to the condo.”
I chuckle. “We just arrived, now we’re on our way to meet with the client. You cannot have a key to everything I own, brat.”
“Why not?! I might want to spend the weekend in Miami with my girls chilling on the beach. I swear, I just told momma and Papà you are so selfish!”
I laugh harder. “So, Papà made it okay?”
“Yes, he did. They’re sitting out on the lanai having tea.” She informs.
“Well, tell them I send my love and tell Papà I will call him when I’m done here.”
“I sure will, but you stay alert. This is a new client, and you can’t trust everyone, Davide. If something happens to you, then I guess I’ll have to pull up my bootstraps and become Donna Russo.” She falls in a frenzy of laughs on the other end of the phone.
“Ha, I’m always alert little sister. That, you don’t have to worry about, and as far as you being Donna Russo, you know I would have to die first for that to happen, and I know you don’t want that. You’d miss me too much to carry on the daily operations, plus I’d haunt your ass for jinxing me!”
“Whatever, Davide. You just finish up your meeting and your hoe-cation and come back and visit with your family before you head back to Italy.”
I laugh harder. “Yeah, okay, hoe-cation. We’re pulling up to the spot, I’ll call you back when I’m done.”
“Okay, big brother. Be careful, and I love you.” Dominique returns.
“I love you too, brat.” I echo, before ending the call. Sometimes I understood why papà said he was tired when he stepped down. This shit could be draining, but I wouldn’t trade it for the world.
Two Mercedes-Benz limos were already parked outside the old warehouse that used to store yachts for celebrities. My driver parks directly in front of them with the second car parking next to us.
Bowing my head, I say a silent prayer like I always did before meetings.
I asked the Lord to watch over my men and me and let us make it back home to our loved ones.
After saying amen, I open my eyes. It was game time.
Piero and Angelo were checking their pistols, making sure they were locked and loaded.
I pull mines from the holsters under my arms. I check both to make sure each clip was full and ready to bust on any of these mother fuckers if they tried to get out of hand.
Angelo secures his back in its holster then checks his laptop to make sure everything is good to go.
“You ready, boss?” Piero quizzes, putting one of his pistols in the back of his pants, then the other in the holster under his left arm.
“Yeah, let’s get this shit over with. Angelo, make sure the transfer goes through when he has it sent.” I instruct.
“I’m on it, boss. An alert will go off on my phone as soon as it hits the account.”
I nod. “Piero, if any of his men look jumpy, don’t hesitate to put them down. This is a new client, and I don’t want any surprises.”
“The men and I will be ready.” He replies. “They’re getting out.”
Looking through the windshield, I watch as six heavily armed men get out of the second vehicle.
One goes to the back-passenger door of the first car and opens it.
A well-dressed older gentleman, who I assume is Okoye, gets out straightening his cuffs.
Another guy gets out after him, then turns back to the car and extends his hand out.
The door is blocking my view, but seconds later, the most beautiful angel I have ever seen steps out.
Her ebony skin was flawless and seemed to shimmer in the sunlight.
Her dark hair was parted down the middle with natural highlights.
Even with just the hint of makeup, she was captivating.
The tight midthigh black dress she wore displayed her womanly curves.
The older guy says something to her that has her immediately lowering her head as she slowly walks over and stands behind him, still with her head down.
“Let’s go,” I tell Piero and Angelo as I put my sunglasses on. My other men have already gotten out and are now standing in front of our car. I walk ahead of them with Piero on my left and Angelo on my right. I face the leader, but behind the sunglasses, my eyes are focused on the woman behind him.
“Mr. Russo, it’s good to finally meet you.” Okoye greets with a heavy accent.
“Nice to meet you too,” I return.
The large man who helped the pretty lady out the car steps forward. “It is custom to bow to the Chief when he acknowledges you.”
I glance over a Piero who side-eyes me then return my attention to the guy. “That would be your custom, not mine. I bow to no one.” I state, squaring my shoulders.
The guy begins to speak again but shuts his mouth when Okoye raises his hand. “Please excuse, Oba. He forgets we are not in our homeland.”
I nod. “No problem. Shall we get down to the business at hand?”
“Please,” Okoye replies.
I look over at Giuseppe and nod. He turns and goes to the back of the car they were riding in.
The driver pops the trunk. Seconds later, he returns with two of the most dangerous guns in the world, the FN FAL and the Rheinmetall MG3.
He takes them to Okoye and his men to inspect.
Oba reaches for the FN while Okoye takes the Rheinmetall.
They start examining the guns while talking in low voices to one another.
Giuseppe walks back over to us and retakes his position.
