Chapter Nine

Sunny

My eyes open slowly and it takes me at least two blinks to remember where I am.

And then it hits me. I’m curled up in Revenant’s bed, surrounded by his leather and man scent.

I roll onto my back, letting my arms flop out to my sides.

I have no idea how long I was napping. It was daylight when I lay down, now it looks as though the light is fading.

My stomach growls, letting me know that I haven’t eaten since breakfast, and that will not do.

If I want to keep my curves I gotta eat.

Rolling to the side, I push up and sit on the edge of the bed, grabbing my phone and waking it up to check the time.

It’s close enough to dinner so I may as well head down and see what MC people like to eat.

Every now and then I think I should feel at least some level of fear, being here at the SOMC clubhouse, and yet I feel nothing but comfortable.

I get that these guys are dangerous. I also get that they do illegal things, but I know at the very core of the SOMC, they are good men and women.

Well, woman. Mercy is good. Dunno about the whores.

Although being raised as a good pastor's daughter I should probably cut them some slack. I’m sure they’re nice ladies once you get to know them.

I shove my feet into my boots that I had shucked off earlier, and make my way to the door, throwing it open and almost shitting my pants when I come face to face with Mercy.

“I did not expect you to be standing there. Sorry for almost crapping myself.”

A slow smile grows on Mercy’s face. “You’re exactly as I remember you.

” I look at her blankly, and she smiles wider.

“I remember you when you were small. I went to your father’s sermons a couple of times before I shipped out.

You were a lot younger then, but still the same.

Opinionated. Fearless. I thought it was an odd mix for a pastor's daughter.”

“In my defence, my father hasn't always been a pastor. That’s what people forget. They just see a man of God. He served for a while. Messed him up big time but he’s good now,” I reply. It’s a little simplistic, but I’m sure Mercy can fill in the blanks.

“That explains your proficiency with a gun.”

“Even good girls need to know how to shoot,” I reply, stepping into the hall and closing Revenant’s door behind me.

“Yeah, but most good girls don’t shoot to kill. Most good girls would hit something or someone and burst into tears.”

“Well, those good girls are weenies.”

Mercy snorts and waves me to follow her.

My stomach chooses that moment to make itself known again, so I’m appreciative when Mercy speeds up and leads me down the long hall.

All the dark wooden doors are closed, but I can guess they all belong to the MC brothers.

I count the doors until I get to the stairs.

I don’t want to come up on my own and end up in the wrong room.

Making our way down the stairs, I glance at the pictures of the MC brothers lining the walls. There’s some pre-Revenant, where Gallows, Hush, Coyote and Brake look really young, and then others with older men, who I’m guessing have passed on since these photos were taken.

“Kitchen’s this way,” Mercy says over her shoulder and I hustle a little, trying to keep up with her longer legs.

She leads me through a side door to a commercial kitchen looking setup. I expected more of a farmhouse look, or something even more worn judging by the grungy looking common room, so I am pleasantly surprised.

“So you know, Monday to Thursday mom comes by to cook for the MC. Friday, Saturday and Sunday we’re on our own.” Mercy says, rummaging around in the fridge.

“I’m guessing those are orgy days?”

Mercy snorts, “Something like that.” She turns and assesses me with her cold gaze. “You gonna be OK with that?”

I shrug one shoulder. “As long as Revenant isn’t part of it, I don’t care.”

Her gaze narrows for a moment. “You’re serious about him?”

“As a heart attack.”

She grins as she tosses a half eaten box of pizza toward me. I take a slice and a seat on a stool near the bench when the kitchen doors fly open and that Bubbles bitch comes sauntering in.

“Where the fuck have you been?” Mercy says, arms crossed over her chest.

Bubbles hesitates a moment, before defiantly lifting her chin. “I don’t have to tell you anything.”

“You do if it means you’re fucking around off site. You know the rules, Bubbles. You wanna be a cut slut, you stay clean. First sign you’re fucking around, you’re gone. I’ll see to it myself.”

Bubbles eyes narrow slightly before a sly smile crosses her face. “Aw, you jealous?”

“Of your baggy hole?” Mercy laughs. “Not. At. All,” she replies, making me snort.

Bubbles head snaps in my direction. “Why are you still here?” she snaps.

“Why are you?” I reply, not looking up from my slice.

“I belong here! You don’t,” she growls, shoving a dirty talon in my face.

“You better not make me put down this pizza.”

“What are you going to do about it, bitch?”

My gaze catches Mercy’s as she crosses her arms over her chest and rests her ass against the bench. The tall brunette gives me a wink and I grin back.

“It’s your last warning, Bubbles.”

Her long red talon pokes me directly in my chest. Oh, it’s on.

Revenant

Stepping out of the cool calm of the church I tip my head back, the sun warm on my face and yet it does nothing to melt the cold fear that grips my heart.

It doesn’t soothe my fears or calm the voices that tell me that I am no longer a man of God.

How can I be when I can’t trust him to have my back?

My faith in God may be lacking, but my faith in my brothers will never waver.

Throwing my leg over my ride, I start her up, her low growl soothing me in ways Pastor Richards’ words never will.

I pull away from the curb, winding my way through town, ignoring the wide eyed stares from kids in the streets, gripping their mothers skirts.

My mind flashes to a little replica of Sunny, pointing at my bike, beaming wide.

Dangerous thoughts to have of the woman tucked up in my room.

The ride goes too fast. One moment I’m winding my way through the streets, the next I’m pulling into the MC lot.

I park my bike and sit for a moment in silence.

It always takes me a minute to settle myself after a session with Pastor Richards.

Pouring out my fears always leaves me feeling scraped raw.

Once I feel steady enough I swing my leg over the matte leather of my seat, leaving my helmet hanging from the handlebars ready and waiting for another ride.

Taking a deep breath I shove the clubhouse door open, stepping foot into the dim lightning of the common room and Sunny on the floor with her hand around Bubbles throat and her fist held midair as if ready to strike.

She grins up at me, hair a mess and blood on her teeth. “Oh, hey Revenant.”

Fuck. I stomp forward, scooping her up around her waist and throwing her over my shoulder.

“Hey! That bitch made me put down my pizza!” she yells before screeching when I slap her ass, rubbing the sting out with my hand.

The moan she releases goes straight to my cock and I know I’m in trouble. Unlocking the door to my room, I throw her on the bed, trying to get the feel of her softness off me. I need to focus. Keep Sunny safe. Not let her cause fucking drama in the clubhouse. I pace my room, hands clenched.

“Fuck!” I whirl on her, pissed that she’s proving Gallows right. Women are too much fucking drama.

I take in her flushed cheeks, the scratch on her face and the slight pink of her teeth. My anger dims as I take in this beautiful woman and her red left cheek with the imprint of a hand.

“Jesus, Sunny, what the fuck happened?” I move to the attached bathroom to wet a cloth.

“Oh, just Bubbles talking shit,” she says, her fingers exploring a scratch on her neck.

I brush her hand out of the way and press a cool cloth to it. Using my other hand I brush the hair from her face, tucking it behind her ear.

“What type of shit?” I murmur, eyes on the cloth. If I look directly at her I’m afraid I won't be able to stop myself from kissing her.

“Oh, just that you belong to her and all that.”

My eyes dart to hers but she’s busy looking everywhere but at me.

“Does that bother you?”

She frowns. “Ah, yeah. Everyone knows that brothers don’t belong to the cut sluts,” she huffs out, crossing her arms over her chest.

I run the cloth down her cheek, cleaning up any other scratches she may have gotten from Bubbles.

“And how do you know that?”

“I read.” She shrugs. “And Mercy told me.”

I let out a huff. “I think Mercy has taken a shine to you.”

“She should. I’m awesome.”

That pulls a chuckle from me and I peek at her.

No one else makes me laugh like she does.

It’s like a sneak attack, when I least expect it.

It’s part of her light. Her charm. I don’t want to dim that.

I could take the easy coward’s way out and tell her that Bubbles was right, that I’m Bubbles’ man, but even the thought of the words falling from my lips feels wrong.

“Sunny, I’m not a good man.”

“I know-”

“No, you don’t. This shit has to stop. Fuck’s sake, you killed for me today. Do you know how messed up that is? Who the fuck does that for their crush?”

Sunny’s eyes narrow and she jerks her face away from the cloth I’m holding to her cheek.

She purses her lips, snatching the cloth from my hand and placing it to her own face.

“I’m going to let you have that one, because I scare you for some reason.

But that’s the only free one you get, got it?

I’m not in the habit of letting men talk to me that way. ”

I blink, once, twice. Well, fuck. We stare at each other. No, I stare at the beauty sitting on my bed, while she glares at me. It seems my little kitten has claws when she wants to.

“You can run away now if you need to,” she says, waving her hand, dismissing me.

“What will you do?”

Her plump lips twitch. “Probaby chase you.” She peeks up at me, her smile widening, “And beat any bitches in my path.”

I stare for a beat before laughter bubbles up out of me, the sound falling free from my lips. I’m well on my way to being well and truly fucked.
