Chapter 22 Bet You’ve Had A lot Of Sex In This Car

BET YOU’VE HAD A LOT OF SEX IN THIS CAR

SEBASTIAN

“How am I meant to know what to wear if you won’t tell me where we are going?” Lily says, standing in the open doorway of her bedroom in a fluffy bathrobe with her hands on her hips.

Looking up from my phone, I smirk at the scowl on her face.

I’d forgotten how impatient she can be, and her inability to handle surprises.

“Just dress comfortably,” I reply, shaking my head. “You’re not going to get it out of me, so there’s no use pouting about it.”

“But… are we going out out, or to someone’s house? Seriously, give me something?” she begs, and I raise an eyebrow.

“Lily, look at what I’m wearing? Base your choice on that.” I gesture towards my jeans and fitted black t-shirt, and she runs a critical eye over me.

It’s so much like our interactions before her marriage that it’s like stepping back in time.

She always used to check me out, and before I’d become comfortable in this world, I’d found myself using her levels of arousal as an indicator of whether my outfit worked for me.

Suits seem to get her going the most, but, judging by the way her eyes are drifting over me right now, I guess this outfit gets the tick of approval as well.

“Fine,” she says, before spinning on her heel and flouncing back into her room.

It reminds me so much of Annika that I have to shake my head. Clearly they have been spending far too much time together.

She reappears half an hour later wearing red stilettos, a short black skirt and a fitted, cream satin top with thin straps. Other than when she snuck into the club night, it’s the first time I’ve seen her wear make-up since she arrived, and her hair is hanging loose down her back in flowing waves.

She looks beautiful, and for a brief moment, I’m speechless as I run my eyes over her.

She glances down at her outfit, then brings her hesitant gaze to mine. “Is this okay?”

My mouth suddenly feels dry and I clear my throat as I nod. “Yes. Although maybe bring a jacket, as it’s still a little cool at night.”

She points at me. “Ah ha! So there is an outside part of the night.”

I roll my eyes and get to my feet. “You have been spending far too much time with Annika,” I reply, voicing my thoughts from earlier.

She grins before turning to re-enter her room, reemerging with a black cardigan in her hand.

“Okay, I’m ready.”

“Fabulous. Now let’s go.” I wave my hand for her to go ahead of me, and follow her out the door.

When we get down to the main floor, she moves towards the front door, but I grab her hand and tug her back.

“No, I’m driving tonight.”

She raises an eyebrow. “I didn’t know you knew how to drive,” she replies with an innocent look on her face.

“Ha ha. Such a comedian.” Keeping her hand in mine, I lead the way down to the garage, using the stairs behind the kitchen.

The black company Audis are kept in a garage near the cottages where the rest of the employee residences are, so this one is just for our personal vehicles.

I press the button on my keys, and the lights on my Porsche Panemera flash.

“Wow… fancy,” Lily says, her eyes locked on the shiny black car. Then she turns to look at me with a grin. “Bet you’ve had a lot of sex in this car, huh?”

I raise an eyebrow. “Potentially.”

“Good to know.” She slides into the passenger seat while I’m shaking my head.

Yes, far too much time with Annika.

“So at this point, I have to ask… Is there anything you do that isn’t sexy as hell?” Lily asks as I drive the car along the winding mountain road.

I chuckle. “And what exactly am I doing that is sexy right now?”

“You’re all relaxed and casual, holding the steering wheel with one hand while you hold the gear stick… I don’t know, just all of it.” Out of the corner of my eye, I see her wave her hand in my direction, and I shake my head.

“I assure you, I wasn’t aware that simply driving my car would turn you on so much, Lily.”

She’s quiet for a few minutes, and I can feel her eyes on me the entire time.

“I like you like this.”

I chance a glance over at her before returning my eyes to the road. “Like what?”

“Relaxed. You’re always so… in control. You’ve always had charisma but I’ve seen how different you are now. You never seem to let yourself relax anymore.”

I consider her words for a moment, before nodding. “I’ve learned to keep a lot of my thoughts and feelings closer to my chest, these days. I guess I only really let my guard down around a select few people now.”

She reaches to cover my hand on the gearstick. “I’m glad I’m one of those people.”

Without thinking, I turn my hand and lace my fingers through hers, squeezing gently. I don’t know who is more surprised by the intimate act, but it’s certainly not something I expected to do. And yet I can’t seem to let go.

When we get to our destination, Lily turns to me with a dubious look.

“A bar?”

I chuckle and shake my head. “Just wait until we get inside.”

She meets me at the back of the car, and I lock it, noticing the appreciative look from a few men who walk by as they eye the Porsche with interest. I’ve never really understood the interest in cars.

I’d been talked into the Porsche when I was looking for a new car, but I’m more interested in the woman standing behind it right now.

I surprise us both again when I take her hand once more. She looks down at our entwined fingers but doesn’t say anything, simply allowing me to lead her into the building.

The bar is attached to the upmarket hotel next to it, and doubles as an intimate concert space on the weekends.

And tonight, the band that is playing is one of the most famous in the country.

They usually book out stadiums, but they try to do smaller venues every so often, to stay connected to their fans.

When we get closer to the door, Lily spies the posters plastered along the wall and gasps, before turning to look at me with wide eyes.

“Seriously?!”

I smile, nodding. “Deadly.”

She squeals and does a little dance beside me as she points at the poster and then at the door guy who is staring at her. “It’s my favourite band. And he kept it a secret.”

Realisation dawns on his face, and he shoots her a thumbs up. “Got yourself a good one there.”

Neither of us correct him, and I usher her ahead of me into the darkened club, nodding to him. Lily doesn’t appear to have noticed that we’ve skipped the line. Or that I haven’t had to show our tickets. She’s too distracted, looking around the space with excitement in her eyes.

“I can’t believe you remembered,” she says, raising her voice over the sound of the music pumping through the speakers.

“How could I possibly forget you completely fangirling about these guys for years?” I ask, admiring the grin stretching across her face.

The sudden urge to kiss her is almost overwhelming, but I hold myself back.

The kisses last night had already been too far, and I can feel my grip on my emotions slipping.

I have to keep from blurring those lines.

While this is meant to feel like a date for her, it can’t be real.

It’s just meant to remind her how she should be treated.

I continue to tell myself that once the band takes the stage. And while she dances away to the rock band she’s loved since she was sixteen.

Because this can’t be anything more.
