Chapter 37 Never Stood A Chance

NEVER STOOD A CHANCE

LILY

A knock on the door of Sebastian’s suite drags me from my bed around midmorning the following day, after hours of tossing and turning.

I’d heard him come up around an hour after I’d left the studio, and I’d wondered if he was going to knock on my door when his footsteps halted in front of it, just like he’d done the night before.

I’d held my breath, waiting for what felt like an eternity.

And when he didn’t knock, I’d stayed up stewing over his admission for hours.

Along with replaying the sex over and over in my head. My god… The sex.

The last two encounters have been the hottest moments of my life. And that was after a threesome that included my celebrity crush, and having a woman go down on me while I watched him fuck her boyfriend.

Guess Sebastian dropping the master of control act is a massive turn on for me.

Dragging myself from bed when the person knocks again, I open the door and blink a few times, convinced I’m hallucinating when I take in who is standing in the hallway.

And then promptly leap into Daniel’s arms, wrapping my legs around his waist and squeeze him tightly as I cling to his neck. He stumbles back a step, before wrapping his arms around me and squeezing back.

“Jeez, if I’m going to get greetings like that, I’ll get back here more often,” he says into my hair as I bury my face against his neck.

“I can’t believe you’re here and you didn’t tell me!” I reply, feeling a lump form in my throat.

He pulls back to study my face while I continue to cling to him with my legs.

“What’s wrong?” he asks, pushing my hair out of my face and stroking my cheek.

I shake my head, suddenly unable to speak.

I hadn’t realised how much I missed him. We’ve messaged most days and talked on the phone, but now that he’s here, his presence is apparently making me emotional.

“Hey. Lil. Talk to me.” He carries me back into the suite and kicks the door closed behind him.

He obviously knows his way around the suite, because he steps around the furniture with ease to take a seat on the armchair with me in his lap, despite my hair being in his face.

I take a deep breath, shaking my head as my stupid emotions get the better of me.

“I’m okay, I promise. I guess just seeing you reminded me how much I missed you.” I sit back and study his face, finally noticing the bruise under his left eye. “What happened?” I ask, narrowing my eyes.

“Oh, this,” he replies, reaching up absently to touch the bruise. “Yeah, it’s nothing. Just had a run in with a pissed off client.”

I have no reason not to believe him, and yet I don’t think he’s being entirely truthful with me.

I frown as he continues to act as though having a black eye is completely normal for a billionaire who has the best security available.

“Seriously, Lil, it’s nothing. I’d rather hear how you’re going. You’re looking really well,” he says, pushing my hair back behind my ear. “You seem less…”

“Broken?” I finish for him.

He screws up his face. “You weren’t broken. He was never going to be able to break you, because you’re a fighter.”

I scoff. “Some fighter.”

His jaw tenses as determination glints in his eye.

“Yes, Lily. A fighter. Even though you never fought back, you stayed alive, and that is incredibly admirable when it comes to men like him. And once you left, you never once thought about going back. A lot of people who have been abused for as long as you were aren’t strong enough to stay away.

But not only have you pulled yourself out of there, but you’re clearly thriving.

” He leans back in the chair, taking my hands to hold my arms out to the side so he can study me.

“You’ve even started eating again,” he adds, pride shining through in his tone.

I snort. “Didn’t get much of a choice. Your brother was obsessed with my eating habits. Was basically all we talked about for a while there.”

Daniel smirks. “Yeah, I might have mentioned to him that he needed to stop avoiding you.”

I roll my eyes. “Well, we’re fine now.” Well, maybe not fine, but not going into that sort of detail with the man’s little brother. “He even took me to see Chasing Destiny on Sunday night,” I say, unable to hide my excitement.

His eyes widen briefly, before he shakes his head. “Jeez, teenaged Lily must have been coming in her pants.”

I choke on a laugh, not entirely sure how to tell him that grown-up Lily was also coming in her pants, thanks to his brother’s fingers being buried between my legs.

And then the lead singer had me screaming over and over again when he’d fucked me with his tongue and delicious cock after the concert.

He can obviously tell something happened from my expression, because he lifts an eyebrow.

“What’s that look about, Lily St Clair?”

I feign innocence. “No look. It was a good night.”

He narrows his eyes, and I can tell he’s going to push the subject, but I’m thankfully saved by the appearance of Sebastian. Well, I don’t know how thankful I am, because Sebastian doesn’t seem to be able to look me in the eye.

“Ah, I see you’ve discovered our unannounced visitor,” he says with a strained smile, nodding towards his brother.

He’s wearing his workout gear with his earbuds in. Given he usually listens to music in the gym on the speakers, I figure he’s just been for a run. Must have been a long one, because he’s usually dressed and down in his office by now.

“Does it count as visiting when I also own the place?” Daniel asks with a cheeky grin, completely unaware of the tension between his brother and myself.

I don’t bother getting up, comfortable in my best friend’s lap, despite the fact that the last man I’d straddled like this was Sebastian, while he had his finger in my arse, giving me a screaming orgasm.

The way Sebastian is looking between us right now tells me that he is also seeing the similarity.

The memory of him informing me that he controls when I get to come probably isn’t the best thing to be thinking about while I’m sitting on top of Daniel, though.

I wonder if the whole “you can sleep with whoever you want” thing also applies to his brother. Not that I’ve ever thought about Daniel that way. But there’s something behind Sebastian’s eyes that I can’t quite place as he drags his gaze away to look at Daniel again.

“Just not sure where you’re going to sleep,” Sebastian drawls as he walks past us on the way to the kitchen, waving towards my bedroom. “The pullout couch you usually crash on has been removed in favour of a bed for Lily.”

Daniel shrugs. “I can crash on the couch. Or perhaps someone else’s bed,” he adds, a hint of mischief in his eye.

Sebastian sighs. “So this is a booty call and not actually a work trip?”

I look between the two of them, confused. “Whose booty is he calling?”

“No one’s booty is being called,” Daniel says, before turning to look at Sebastian. “It was a one time thing at a club night. I was just stirring.”

Sebastian chuckles, shaking his head. “Hey, you can fuck whoever you want, little brother. I’m in no place to judge. But I’m at least honest about where I get my rocks off.”

I glare from one brother to the other. “Who. Did. Daniel. Fuck?”

Daniel sighs, dragging a hand down his face. “Last year I was here for a club night and may or may not have had a wild night with Kresta.”

I let out a dramatic gasp and place a hand to my chest. “You slut,” I say with a grin. “You always did have a thing for hot blondes. Go Danny.”

“Well, almost all hot blondes. I never stood a chance with the one currently in my lap once she met my big brother,” he says with a wicked grin.

I feel my face heat up, and Sebastian clears his throat.

“You’re such a shit-stirrer,” I say, finally climbing out of his lap, not quite able to meet Sebastian’s eye.

“Yep, and you love me,” Daniel says, and I have to wonder if he knows something is going on between Sebastian and me.

Given I don’t even know what’s going on between us, if he has any hints, that would be great.

“So if you’re not here to get your dick wet, why are you here?” Sebastian asks, and although I’m not looking at him, I can hear the annoyance in his tone.

“It’s just work stuff,” Daniel says, and I look up to see them exchanging a look, before Sebastian nods stiffly.

“Well, I guess we better get on that in my office, then. Just let me have a quick shower.” He looks at me, and I hold his gaze, lifting my chin.

God, what I wouldn’t give for him to just throw me down on the bench and fuck me right now.

Jesus. This past week obviously awoke some sort of horny beast inside me.

Sebastian disappears into his room, and Daniel looks at me with a raised eyebrow.

I decide I don’t want to have this conversation and set about diverting his attention.

“So, Kresta, huh?”

He groans. “Don’t you start.”

“Why not? She’s great, and I’m pretty sure you bringing it up like that means you actually weren’t ‘just stirring’,” I reply, using air quotes.

“Yeah, she is great, but I’m her boss. I shouldn’t have gotten carried away and let little Daniel call the shots.”

I choke out a laugh. “Little Daniel? You seriously call it that?”

He grins. “Well, I could have referred to it as my cock, but you usually blush whenever those sort of words pop out.” He studies me for a moment, his expression growing mischievous once again.

“But something has obviously changed, because I’m pretty sure you just referred to it as fucking a minute ago…

Who are you, and what have you done with my sweet, innocent Lily? ”

I wag a finger at him. “Oh no, no. We’re not changing the subject to me. You’re not getting off that easy.”

He groans again, rubbing a hand over his face. “But why? It’s so much easier to make you squirm than it is for me to discuss who I should or should not fuck.”

“Well, I for one, think you should hook up with her again. Or something more, because she’s great, and you’re great, so you’d be great together.”

He rolls his eyes, and shoots Sebastian a grateful look when he reemerges after the quickest shower known to man. He’s foregone his usual business attire, simply throwing on jeans and a plain black t-shirt.

“Shall we?” Sebastian says, and Daniel nods, getting to his feet.

I catch the wary look between them as they excuse themselves and I watch them go with a sense of unease. Despite Daniel’s joking tone, something is off, and I have a sinking feeling it involves me.
