Chapter Forty-One

LEXI

Kayden had asked me to come back to his apartment to help him get some things together. I was surprised because I’d thought all of his belongings were at the hockey house, but since our...break up, if you could call it that, he’d been staying at the apartment.

As he drove us to his place, my stomach swarmed with butterflies. Knowing that we both loved each other, and that we were going to try and work it out, made me overly giddy like someone who spent hours watching Hallmark movies, or romcoms.

He took my hand in his, and brought it to his lips, and tingles spread throughout my body.

I bit my lip, and his eyes followed the motion.

“Fuck,” he whispered and I knew as soon as we were parked and inside, all bets were off.

I was supposed to help him pack, but with the way he kept looking over at me every few minutes, I didn’t think that was going to happen.

As soon as he pulled into the garage, he found a parking spot, put the car in park and turned off the engine.

We both got out of the car quickly and went to his apartment.

He continued to hold my hand as he put the key in the lock, turning the knob when it clicked.

He pulled me inside, closed the door behind me, and backed me against the wall, eyes darkening with promise.

“What do you want?” he asked, and I didn’t want him saying any words. I wanted his mouth on mine, claiming me in the best way possible.

My gaze remained on his, and I fisted my hands into his shirt. “You,” I breathed, and all bets were off.

His lips were on mine, and they weren’t gentle or soft. They were rough, and commanding like he’d been waiting years to do this. His tongue pushed through the barrier and collided with mine, a moan escaping my lips.

His hands went to the hem of my shirt, lifting it over my head, leaving me slightly exposed in my white bra. His lips left mine and in a heated frenzy, they traveled down towards my neck, as he unhooked my bra.

His lips caught my nipple, sucking and nipping at it, almost undid me.

Then he leaned back, gaze darkened, and got to his knees, pulling down my pants and underwear.

My stomach tightened, and his mouth was there, completely owning me as if I was his. Which, I guess I am.

My fingers tangeled in his hair, “Fuck, Kayden.”

I rode his mouth, and I didn’t want him to stop. Keep fucking going...

He rose to his full height, and claimed my lips once more, wrapping my legs around his body as he carried me off to the bedroom.

My feet landed on the floor, and I hurriedly had his shirt off, as I pressed kiss after kiss to his chest, until I reached his pants.

Getting on my knees, I undid the tie on his joggers and slid them down his muscular legs, right along with his underwear.

The last time I’d been with him completely undid me to the point that I wanted nothing more than to be with him. Now that we were back together, I wanted to own him in every way possible.

So when his cock emerged in front of me, I wrapped my hand around it and put him in my mouth. I looked up at him, naked and exposed, and as his head fell back, a moan escaped his lips. I swirled my tongue around the tip, his fingers fisting into my hair.

“Fuck...” the word came out of his mouth and I was hoping he would do just that. His fingers moved my head the way he wanted, the pace getting faster as I kept taking him in my mouth.

Then, as he began to twitch, he pulled me back. “Stand up,” he ordered.

I did as he said, eager to be at his beck and call. I wanted to be a doll for him, to do what he wanted with as hard as he wanted.

His lips met mine as he walked me back to the bed with the navy blue comforter, laying me down. Our lips broke apart as he hovered over me, right at the entrance.

Something flickered in his eyes and I couldn’t figure out what it was. Adoration? Love? Lust?

“I love you,” he whispered, and then he pushed in.

“Oh my God...” his lips went to my neck and as he began to thrust, the temperature rose.

He moved back, placing my legs on his chest, grabbing hold of my tits and thrust harder and deeper.

“Fuck, you feel so fucking good.”

We moved in a rhythm until we were both lost in each other.

Afterwards, he pulled me in his arms and held me until we both fell asleep.

My eyes blinked open to a loud ringing noise.

“Fuck, fuck, fuck!”

Kayden was swearing up and down and I had no idea what was going on but it was so loud and I wanted it to stop.

I groaned, placing the pillow over my head.

“Lexi, get up. We overslept, I’ve got to go.”

The urgency in his voice pulled me into action, and I quickly gathered my clothes and got dressed. Once I was fully alert, “What do you need?”

He was moving around the apartment at an alarmingly fast rate, and it made my head spin.

“Nothing, I’ve got everything I need now. But I have to pick up Kellan so he can come with me.”

Kellan and Kayden were drafted to the same team, so I assumed they were flying out together.

He looked at me, like he was thinking about something. “What if instead of me taking you to the dorm, you went with us to the airport?”

My brows rose, “Really? But..how would I get back?”

He bit his lip and it was the sexiest thing ever. “You would drive my car.”

My stomach dropped, I hadn’t driven in so long... “I don’t know, Kayden. I haven’t driven since...”

“The accident.” He nodded, “but we are trying to overcome our fears right? You can do this. I need to be with you longer.”

My head moved, and I reluctantly agreed. I can do this.

Fuck, I can’t do this. I can’t lose him.

My mood flipped when thoughts of him leaving entered my mind. Not just hours away, states away. Could we do this? Could we make this work?

He seemed to notice me getting all in my head. “Shut that shit off. We can do it, and we are doing it. Just because I’m not in the same state doesn’t mean we can’t make it work.”

I nodded, wiping away the dampness in my eyes.

“Don’t cry, baby. I’m not going anywhere. I’m going to get settled up there, and make my spot on the team, and then I’ll bring you back with me. Focus on therapy, school and healing. Focus on skating. Keep your mind busy, hangout with Hazel, and then before you know it, we’ll be together. Okay?”

He wiped the tears from my face and I nodded. As he placed his lips to mine, I held onto that promise.

I sat in the front seat as we went to pick up Kellan. Kayden didn’t want to let me go yet, and I felt the same way. He said I could come with them to the airport to say goodbye, and take care of his car for now. Which made my stomach twist because I hadn’t driven in over a year.

Everyone’s got to start somewhere right?

The drive over was quiet, both of us lost in our own thoughts. He held my hand on the center console, and as we pulled up to the hockey house, he got out of the car and went inside.

My hands fiddled in my lap, and my stomach churned.

I wasn’t feeling up to going in and saying hi, I didn’t know how I was going to say goodbye to the man I loved.

This was a completely different situation, but it made me wonder how all those women said goodbye to their boyfriends or husbands as they got ready to go overseas. This freaking sucked.

A short time later, Kayden opened the trunk where Kellan put his bag, and they both got in the car. Kellan said hi, but he was engrossed in his phone. The drive to the airport was fifteen minutes away without traffic, and the whole ride over I couldn’t get my mind to shut up.

He pulled into the arrivals garage, and left the car running once we found a spot. Kellan got out, and grabbed his bag, and went a few feet away, answering a call.

Kayden and I both got out, and met near his trunk. He placed the bag over his shoulder, and pulled me in tightly to his chest. Tears gathered in my eyes, and my shoulders started to shake.

Don’t do this now. Don’t fucking do this Lexi.

He pulled back, seeing the tears in my eyes, and I thought I saw something wet in his. He wiped them from my cheeks, holding my face in his hands, “God, Lex. You’re making this even fucking harder on me. I don’t want to go, and I’m about to call this whole thing off.”

I chuckled, and swallowed the lump in my throat. “No, you’re not. You’re going to go there, and be the best you can be. Show them how much of a badass you are.”

“There will be a lot of texts, phone calls, and video chats. I will bring you out there with me, I promise.” While he said the words, part of me, the darkest part, wondered if that would be true, or if he would forget about me and move on.

Long distance was no joke, and so many relationships suffered because of it. I hoped that wasn’t ours.

He tilted my head up, his lips hovering over mine, as he closed the distance and gave me a passionate kiss. He pulled back, and opened his eyes. “I’ve got to go, but I love you. So much.”

I licked my lips and let out a shaky breath, “I love you too.”

He shut the trunk, and disappeared with Kellan into the airport. I stood there for a while longer, letting my tears dry, and then I got in the car for the first time in over a year, and drove back to the dorm completely broken.
