Chapter 1 #2

“Honestly? Boring as hell. I have to take all these general education classes first, and I feel like I already know all the material we’re covering. It feels like a waste of time and money,” she says, rolling her eyes. Always being dramatic, my baby girl.

“Part of it, kiddo. Every class you take builds the foundation for the next one you’ll have to take.”

“I suppose. Whose car was at your house earlier?” She leans forward like we’re about to gossip as she jumps right in with the questions that I was hoping to avoid.

“A friend,” I say vaguely, chuckling when she rolls her eyes at me again.

“Well, I hope your friend sticks around. You’ve been in a better mood since you met this friend a few months ago.

Not sure why there’s all the secrecy with your friend though.

Don’t you think it’s weird to hide your friend from your daughter?

” She stresses the word friend every time she says it.

It’s clear she knows the car belongs to a woman who is more than just a friend.

I ignore her completely though, not about to discuss who or what I do with my daughter.

“Have you met any new friends at school?” I ask, stressing the word friends back at her, wondering if my little girl is dating anyone at school. Her cheeks pinken, and I have my answer.

“Sadie, we have a deal. If you’re going to date someone, you have to let Dexter run their information,” I scold her.

We made a deal that she would let us run anyone’s information she might be interested in to make sure it wasn’t someone who had bad intentions.

The club has enemies, and I want her safe.

“I’m not dating anyone. That was the deal, so I’m not breaking it.” She huffs. I know she doesn’t want me all up in her business, but it’s my job as her dad and the president of this club to keep everyone in it safe.

“No, the deal was and STILL is, we get to check into anyone you are going to spend time with. We have enemies out there, baby girl, you know that. I can’t keep you safe if you break the rules, Sadie.

” The thought of anyone harming her has the monster inside me gearing up for war because that is precisely what would happen.

She’s granted a reprieve from the ass chewing she has coming when G comes through the swinging kitchen door carrying our dinner. She gives Sadie a big smile as she places it on the table in front of us and saunters back the way she came.

“You need to make her the cook around here. At least she knows how to,” Sadie says, biting into her burger.

“Yeah, been thinking that lately. Sapphire almost burnt the place down last week.” Now that was a fucking nightmare. I thought we were going to have to call in the fire department, but thankfully Knox stepped in and put it out.

“Oh God, that’s hilarious. At least she’s pretty. That’s going to be her only saving grace when she decides to settle down one day,” Sadie says, laughing.

We spend the next hour catching up as she tells me about what’s new with her this week, the sorority she’s thinking about pledging to in the fall, and a project she has to do with some dumb jock.

I’m thankful for our Thursday dinner dates.

They give me a piece of my sanity back since my daughter has always been the one who brings balance into my life.

Not to mention without these get-togethers, I would only know what Kidd relays to me when he gives me the weekly report about what he observes when he follows her around at school.

I’m surprised my girl hasn’t caught him tailing her yet; she’s usually more observant of her surroundings.

Kidd is only a year older than her, so he must blend in better than I thought he would.

I figured that he would stick out more with the tattoos up his neck. Guess not.

“I gotta get back to my apartment and start working on this project, Dad. I figure I’ll be the one having to pull the most weight.”

“All right, baby girl. Let me walk you out.” I wrap my arm around her shoulders, soaking up as much time with her as I can.

“Dad? This woman, whoever she is, you should give some thought to making it a thing. It’s been months, and she hasn’t run screaming for the hills yet. Let’s be honest, you’re not an easy guy to live with, and who knows, you might like settling down,” she tells me as she climbs into her car.

“I’ll think about it,” I humor her. I have thought about it, but I don’t think I could ever trust another woman after the shit Sadie’s mom put me through.

Tapping the roof of her car once she’s safely inside, I watch her as she pulls out of the gates.

Once her tail lights have faded into the distance, I pull out my phone that’s been vibrating in my pocket, and the calm that had settled quickly turns to rage.

Legend: Spotted 3 Cuban Kings dealing on Main

Viper: Don’t engage. OMW

“Mount up! We got three Cuban Kings in our territory on Main!” I shout, already making my way back outside and climbing on my bike.

In a matter of moments, Rock, Knox, Priest, and Wrath are hauling ass through the doors and jumping onto their bikes.

The roar of motors is deafening as they follow me out of the gates, and we speed down the strip towards Main.

Pulling up next to where Legend is parked, I look around but don’t see anyone. “Where are they?”

“Took off that way when they heard you coming,” he says, pointing east.

“Let’s head that way then and see if we come up on them.”

Twenty minutes later, as we’re about to pass Heaven’s Door, I see three bikes parked behind a big truck and quickly merge into the turning lane so I can veer into the lot.

These idiots can’t be this stupid, can they?

Hiding in plain sight doesn’t always mean you’re hidden in plain sight.

“You see this shit?” I ask, shutting off my bike.

Climbing off, I walk over to see if the bikes are flying CK colors.

“What a bunch of fucking dumbasses.” Legend laughs. Sure as shit, the bikes have large Cuban Kings decals on the gas tank and fenders.

“Oh goodie. I’m in the mood to fuck some shit up.

I caught my girl fucking the neighbor this afternoon.

I got some aggression to work out,” Wrath mutters, cracking his knuckles, and the little bomb he just dropped is news to us all.

I could’ve sworn he and Babs were in it for the long haul.

He worshiped the ground that big-tittied bitch walked on, gave her everything she asked for, and she was always asking for something.

“In that case, let the fun begin,” Priest growls, already striding toward the doors. He and Wrath are best friends, so I know he has his boy’s back and will help him through his shit.

Nodding at our bouncer, Big John, we go through the doors and I spot Vixen instantly.

My fists instinctively clench and I see fucking red.

She is sitting in the lap of a fucking Cuban King, looking a little too fucking comfortable there.

Seeing another man touching her has the monster inside me stirring to the surface in a hurry.

Prowling over, I take in the three bikers, focusing on the bald-headed prick with my girl in his lap. “Office now Vixen. NOW. And don’t fucking move until I come back there and get you,” I say through clenched teeth, barely holding on to my rage.

“I think the lady’s fine where she is.” Pinball smirks while grinding his cock into her ass.

I don’t give two fucks if he is the president of the Cuban Kings, something about the action has my hand twitching to pull my gun right now and blow his fucking head off.

“Prez,” Priest warns. I realize there are too many witnesses; I take a breath and try to rein in my rage.

“Bad fucking move, asshole,” Wrath says from behind me.

“Fellas,” I command, and instantly my brothers move in around me to haul our unwelcome guests out back into the alley.

The jackass pushes Kierra off his lap, making her teeter on her entirely too-tall heels.

Grabbing her arm to steady her, I wait until she’s good, then tug her behind me as I make for the office.

“What the fuck was that?” I shout, slamming the office door behind us as soon as we’re out of earshot.

Crowding her against the desk, I growl in her face, “You fucking him, Kierra? I swear to God, if I find out you’re fucking him, I’ll put a bullet in his head and make you fucking watch. ” I may do just that anyway.

Rolling her eyes, she lifts her arm, pointing to show me the bruises that are already starting to take shape. “No. He grabbed me and wouldn’t let me go.”

“They been here before?” I instantly calm at her admission.

If she’d been fucking him I couldn’t swear I wouldn’t kill them both.

Lifting her onto the desk, I raise her arm so that I can inspect the markings more closely.

She’s going to have a bruise in the shape of a man’s hand on her arm before the night is up.

My calm is fleeting the closer I look. That fucking bastard is going to pay for putting his hands on my girl.

“Yeah, a few times. The bald one is the worst though. He doesn’t seem to want to take no for an answer and zones in on me every time he’s come through the front door,” she whimpers, wrapping her arms around my back.

“Why haven’t you said anything, babe?” I ask her. This is my club. It’s my job to keep everyone in it safe. Especially her.

Laughing, she says a version of what she always says, “We don’t have that kind of relationship, Draven. We sleep together, and I leave. It’s what we agreed to months ago. Plus, Savior is usually watching, and he runs them off before anything can happen.”

“Hurt?” I ask, lightly running my fingers across the darkest spot that has formed where he grabbed her.

“Ow. Yes, now stop touching it.” She pouts, yanking her arm back.
