Luna

FORTY-NINE

Sipping on my wine, I tuck my feet further under my body as I rest on the outdoor sofa. The kids are watching a movie inside. Most of the younger ones have already passed out from all the excitement today.

Cayden’s teammates, except for Knox, left after the cake and presents, but not before Scarlett got them each to wear fairy wings and a tiara from the photo props I had sitting by the backdrop for a group picture. I’m pretty sure Cayden has blackmail on his camera roll now if he ever has to use it.

You can tell how much they adore her, though, and would wear just about anything she asks if it made her happy. Even Thane shows a small smile here and there whenever Scarlett tugs at his hand to get him to follow her.

Taking another sip of wine, I watch Cayden by the bar, talking to my dad and Noah, along with Maverick and his dad, Matt. It feels good seeing him with my family…it feels right.

He catches my eye, and the corner of his lip twitches up before he goes back to his conversation. Images of him holding Beckett flash through my mind again, and it’s hard for me not to picture him holding our baby one day.

“I know that look on your face well,” Skye says, leaning over next to me and whispering in my ear. “It’s the same look Emma had on her face the day she told me about meeting your brother.”

“I’ve always wanted what Noah and Emma have.” I turn and smile at Emma’s childhood friend, who has become like family to me.

Emma and Skye grew up together in Tennessee and have been best friends since kindergarten. In high school, Skye started dating Cole, and they’ve been together ever since. A few years ago, they moved down here to Florida and are now married with two kids of their own.

“I’d say you found it,” she grins, her blue eyes shining as she pats my leg. “I’m really happy for you, Luna. Cayden is a lucky guy.”

“I feel like I’m the lucky one.” I glance through the glass doors and see blonde curls peeking out from the covers on the floor. “I get two people to love.”

“She’s going to fit right in with this crew.

I can’t imagine a better family to be a part of.

Everyone welcomed Cole and me from the moment we met everybody, and your mom and Maya proudly take on the grandmotherly role when our parents can’t be here.

If I know your mom,” she grins, “she’s already thinking of all the ways she’s going to spoil Scarlett. ”

“I wouldn’t doubt it,” I laugh. “I know I am.”

He looks over again, and the need to be near him has me standing up and setting my wine down.

“I’ll be right back,” I say to the girls, walking away before I get caught up in another conversation.

I reach Cayden’s side and take his hand.

“Sorry, guys, I’m stealing Cayden for a bit.” I pull him out of the circle before anyone can protest. I hear the slight chuckles behind me as I walk past the pool toward the backyard.

“You beat me to it,” Cayden grins. “I was just about to steal you away from the girls.”

“And here I thought you had to be fast to be a goalie?” I tease.

“Careful, little moon,” he murmurs. “You know how much that smart mouth of yours turns me on.”

Turning, I walk backwards on the grass as a cheeky grin appears on my face. “I’m betting on it.”

Low laughter rumbles out of his chest as I pull him with me toward the dock.

“I want to show you something.”

When we reach the dock, I follow it out until we reach the end. My dad’s fishing boat sits up on the lift, and a small shed that matches the blue of my parents’ house sits to the side.

“My dad and Papaw built this for storage and made this bench, so my mom and Mimi would have a place to sit and wait for their fishing boat to come in.”

Taking a lighter out of the small box we keep by the bench, I light the tiki torches on either side of the shed to keep the bugs away. A slight breeze skims across my skin, cooling off the heat from the sun earlier.

Pulling him down with me, we settle on the bench and look out over the canal. The moon reflects over the water, and the night sky is full of stars as I peer up at them all.

“It’s beautiful out here,” he says, quietly, taking my hand.

“It’s perfect,” I breathe.

A white streak of light flashes across the sky, and I point excitedly.

“Did you see that? It’s a shooting star!”

He chuckles at my excitement. “I saw it. You'd better make a wish.”

“We both get one. You saw it too,” I nudge his shoulder with mine. “Close your eyes.”

“You can have mine. I don’t think I need a wish tonight.”

“You’re giving me your wish?” I ask before my brows pull together as I remember something Emma told me.

“Yeah,” he slightly chuckles. “Is that okay?”

“Yes. I…” I shake my head to clear it and smile. “I was just remembering a story that Emma told me about the night she and Noah had just met and were sitting on the beach talking. They saw a shooting star, and Noah gave her his wish too.”

“Hmmm. I guess Noah already had everything he wanted.”

His eyes stare into mine, and his hand reaches up to gently tuck a strand behind my ear.

“Close your eyes, little moon. You have two wishes to make,” he says softly.

I close my eyes, and I don’t even have to think about the two things I want most in this world.

“Done,” I whisper.

Before I can even open my eyes, I feel his lips graze mine as his hand sinks into my hair, cradling the side of my face.

“What did you wish for?” he breathes against my skin.

“If I told you it won’t come true,” I smile. “But I will tell you the moment it does.”

“Then, I’m just going to have to make sure it does.”

He kisses me again, and I sink deeper into his touch.

I swear, every time he kisses me, the world disappears.

Pulling me onto his lap, I straddle his legs, my fingers seeking his soft hair as I grasp the back of his head.

His kisses feel like I’m holding the future that I’d just wished for.

Holding all the promises he’s silently making with each slow stroke of his tongue.

Running his hands up my back, they softly skim along my heated flesh, leaving a trail of goosebumps in their wake.

“Thank you for today,” he whispers softly, breaking away. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen Scarlett so happy.”

“I enjoyed putting it together. I’d do anything for that little girl.” I bite my lip, but the words come out anyway. “I’d do anything for you, too,” I say quietly.

He studies me for a long moment, his thumb brushing across my cheek.

“You already do.” His voice is barely above a whisper. “Every time you bend down to talk to Scarlett…every time you make her laugh…every time you reach for my hand or sit behind my net…” His forehead falls against mine. “You choose us.”

I kiss him again, unable to form words as emotions bloom in my chest. I don’t think anyone has ever given me something more precious than those three words.

Our kiss becomes more urgent as our need for one another grows.

His hands run up my thighs, and under the pink sundress I’m wearing before they palm my ass and hold me tight against him.

“You’re dangerous,” he groans, finally pulling back. “You’re the one thing I have no control over.”

“I like it when you lose control with me,” I grin, pulling his lips back to mine. He’s hard against my panties, and I can’t resist the urge to rub down his length.

“Luna,” he growls in warning, and it just turns me on more.

“No one can see us,” I whisper in his ear. “I need you.” I pull his earlobe with my teeth before my tongue tastes the salt from his skin. “Please.”

I don’t know what’s got into me. Maybe it’s the three glasses of wine I’ve had. Maybe it’s seeing him hold a newborn…or the thrill of getting caught…

Or maybe it’s just him and the fact that no matter how hard I try, I can never get enough of him.

His hand moves between my legs, and I smile when I realize I’m getting my way. He pushes my thong to the side and sinks two fingers in, and I moan in pleasure.

“Jesus. You’re soaking wet,” he says in a low voice that sends a deep ache between my legs. Thrusting his fingers into me again, I could cum in seconds, but I want both of us to shatter together.

Here, under the stars and moon.

Reaching between us, I untie his board shorts, still damp from the pool.

“I should be stopping you,” he groans softly as I finally release him and stroke down the length of him. “Your dad would not approve of this in his own backyard.”

“The only daddy I want to be talking about right now is you.”

“God, why is that so hot?”

“I have no idea,” I giggle softly. “I’ve never called someone daddy before.”

“Nor will you ever, unless it’s me.”

Lifting up, I slide down on him, and we both moan every delicious inch on the way down.

“You feel so good, daddy,” I whisper in his ear. I’ve never been one to do the dirty talking, but judging by the way his grip tightens on me, it’s doing exactly what I want it to.

I move above him slow and deep wanting to savor every sensation he brings out of me.

“You’re so big,” I moan as he stretches me to the max, feeling him touch every part of me. “Makes me want to cum all over you,” I murmur near his neck before kissing behind his ear.

“Fuck, Luna,” he hisses before taking charge and slamming me down on him. His fingers dig into my flesh under my dress, and one more deep thrust has us both muffling our release with our mouths pressed together.

My walls convulse and squeeze him as he gives me the release my body craved. I smile against his lips once my tremors have stopped.

He chuckles softly and kisses me on the lips.

“Once again, Luna Marie Bennett, you have managed to surprise me.”

“I’ll take that win, goalie.”

He smiles before brushing another kiss on my forehead.

“I’ve never been so happy to lose.”
