Chapter 6

CHAPTER SIX

Khai

Our first date set off a chain reaction of dates and nights spent together. Our only time apart was when we worked.

But after a couple of weeks of nonstop sex and hanging out, our friends began to complain.

“Dottie wants me over for dinner tonight. Are your friends meeting up for cards and beers?”

“Yeah, probably, the usual Friday night game. But I had planned a movie night with you.” I groaned as I wrapped my arms around Ember and pulled her into my lap.

She had spent the night as usual, and fuck, I loved waking up to her.

We’d have lazy morning sex, sex in the shower, and eventually breakfast where I brewed her a pot of coffee even though I didn’t touch the stuff.

A couple of energy drinks and I was good to go for the day.

We couldn’t keep our hands to ourselves and I fucking loved it. Just like how I loved falling in love with her. Which was exactly what was happening.

I tried to ignore it, told myself it was too fast, too soon, she’d think I was crazy, so I buried it deep down. Yet there it was, threatening to spill out of me at a moment’s notice.

“Aw, I love movie nights with you.” Ember snuggled her face into my neck. “Even if we don’t get any movie watching done.”

I chuckled. “Isn’t that the best part?”

“Mmm. Don’t make me horny before I need to go to work. Then I’ll be thinking about it all day.”

“Maybe I’ll stop by for a haircut and a quickie in your back office then.”

“You wouldn’t.” Ember shrieked with laughter. “That place is not soundproof. Trust me.”

“Oh it can be with all the blow dryers going.”

“You’re naughty.”

“And you love it.”

“I do actually.” Ember kissed me and then stood, my body feeling empty without hers on me.

“So I guess I’ll come by after work tomorrow?

You hang out with the boys tonight and I’ll visit with Dottie.

Plus I need to clean out more of my sister’s storage.

I don’t have much time left before the auction. ”

“I can help you if you’d like. I mean, if you want my help. I don’t want to step on your toes. I know how much you miss her, so I understand if you want to do it alone.”

“I do miss her. A lot.” Ember sat across from me, taking a sip of coffee and biting a piece of her toast. “But being with you has helped a lot. I finally feel happier, like there isn’t a weight bearing down on my chest.”

I reached across and covered her hand with mind. “I’m here whenever you want to talk about her. Cry, vent, or just remember.”

“Thank you, Khai.” She brought our hands up to her lips and kissed the back of mine softly. She whispered something against my hand, but I couldn’t quite make it out.

“What did you say?”

She looked up at me, surprise filling her features. “Oh nothing.” But she couldn’t hide the grin from her face.

“I don’t think it was nothing.”

Ember rolled her eyes but burst into a fit of giggles. “Okay fine. I said…I said I love you, okay?”

My heart wanted to burst straight from my rib cage. “I love you, too.”

I jumped up from the table so quickly, I nearly knocked everything off of it. I ran to her side and scooped her up, her squeals making my dick hard. “I love you so much, baby girl.”

“I love you too, so much.”

I kissed her long and hard before making a beeline for the staircase.

“Hey we have work!” Ember laughed.

“Guess we’ll be late today!” I said as I carried her upstairs and back to bed.

Then I fucked her brains out and showed her just how much I really loved her.

We survived our evening apart and when she showed up on my doorstep, looking tired after a busy Saturday at the salon, I surprised her with dinner and a self-care night. I knew she needed the pampering, especially before we headed to her sister’s storage until the next day.

After feeding her a dinner of garlic bread and lasagna, we bathed together, where I massaged her shoulders and feet. Afterwards, we slipped into comfortable pajamas and curled up on the couch with a movie and eye strips under our eyes.

“I love you.” I kissed the top of Ember’s head. It felt so amazing to say those special words to her.

“I love you, too.”

We made love that night, slow and tender, kissing and caressing each other with slow touches. We said I love you again and again, me buried deep inside her until the wee hours of the morning.

I made her a hearty breakfast of fruit covered pancakes, and we drove to her sister’s storage unit, hand in hand.

Ember squeezed my hand as I turned into the parking lot. “Thank you for being here for me.”

“Always, baby girl.”

We spent the morning going through her sister’s belongings. Ember cried and laughed, got angry at her sister being stolen away by a careless, drunk driver, but she mostly shared memories with me, memories that made her smile.

“This was the Christmas I got my Barbie dream house. Elena was so jealous even though she always teased me and said she hated Barbies. She was more of a tomboy, playing ball in the yard, skinning her knees, and making messy mud pies. While I had my dolls and my Barbies and made neat mud pies full of berries and twigs.” Ember smiled as she remembered, her eyes lighting up.

“We couldn’t be more opposite, but we stuck together like glue.

Probably because of parents couldn’t give us the time of day.

I often wondered why they even had children. ”

“I’m glad they did. If not, you wouldn’t be here.” I pulled her in for a hug and held her close against me. “You’re an amazing woman, you know that?”

“Thank you. And thank you for not hating me when I showed up not looking like the pictures.”

“Ha! I could never. Besides I figured it was you talking to me. And that’s who I fell in love with. Not whoever was in the pictures.”

“How did I get so lucky?” She searched my eyes before pressing a soft kiss against my lips.

“More like how did I. I plan on making you my wife one day, baby girl. No doubt about it.”

“I became a mail-order bride after all.” She remarked and I chuckled before kissing her with all of my love poured in.
