Epilogue
Ember
Six months later
“I’m going to miss you! Even though I barely saw you these past six months.” Dottie pouted from where she stood at the head of the driveway, Khai putting the last of my things in his truck.
“I know. I’ll miss you too. But we’re going to have a girls night. Once a week. Khai will go out with his friends, and I’ll come over here or you can come to me. Deal?” I wrapped my arms around my best friend and pulled her close. “I love you so much.”
“I love you too. Don’t forget about me.”
“I could never. You do remember we still text every day, right?”
Dottie chuckled. “Uh huh. But still.”
“I know.” I stepped back and took her hands in mine. “Now it’s your turn to get on Mountain Mates and find yourself a match.”
“Nah, I’m good.”
“Dottie…”
“You know I suck at online crap.”
“I’ll help you.”
“Okay, maybe. Now go be with your hot as hell mountain man.” Dottie blew me a kiss and then waved to Khai. “Bye Khai! Keep my girl safe!”
“Always!” Khai called back before hitting us both with his dazzling smile.
“You’re one lucky girl, Em.”
I tossed her a wink. “You will be too.”
With one last quick hug, I hurried to the truck and climbed into the passenger seat.
Khai leaned over and kissed me. “It’s official. You’re all moved in.”
“I’m all moved in.” I grinned. “I wouldn’t want to do this with anyone else.”
“Me either, baby girl, me either.”
The past six months have been blissful to say the least. We fell into an easy routine together, fitting in time with our friends, but always making time for each other.
Tonight, Khai had a surprise for me.
After dinner, we took a drive to the top of the mountain and parked at the overlook point. The sun set in the background, turning the clouds a cotton candy pink mixed with orange and purple.
Khai set up the back of his track with a blanket and pillows, facing it towards the sky, and a tray of my favorite dessert- cherry cheesecake bites.
We fed each other pieces between kisses and laughter.
“Shit!” Khai said suddenly. “I think there is something hard in mine.”
My eyes widened as I watched him pull something off of the top of a cheesecake piece.
It looked like…it looked like a ring.
Oh my God.
Oh my God.
Holy fuck!
Khai placed the piece of cheesecake down and lifted the ring, bringing it between us. The diamond was beautiful. Gorgeous. Huge.
“Baby girl, I love you so much. I don’t want to spend any day apart ever again. I want you forever. As my wife, the mother of my children, everything. Will you marry me?”
“Yes, Khai! Yes!” Tears poured down my cheeks as Khai slipped the ring on my finger and kissed me, our mouths tasting of delicious, creamy cheesecake.
I broke our kiss and held my hand up, looking at the ring as more tears streamed from my eyes. It was perfect. He was perfect. We were perfect.
“My husband.” I said.
“My wife.” Khai growled.
And then we laughed and kissed, our future sealed together.
