Chapter 19

I stood there stuck, not believing what I was seeing.

My fucking eyes had to have been playing tricks on me because there was no way in hell I was seeing this shit.

Was I aware my parents like to fuck? Yes.

Had I ever walked in on them? No. Not together.

Not with other people. Never. Yet they had the audacity to be in here like this when anybody could walk in.

My mother scrambled to cover herself while Pops looked unbothered. In fact, he looked aggravated that I had interrupted them.

“I know you fucking lying.” I shot a glare at my father. “Y’all couldn’t lock the damn door?”

Pops shook his head. “I’ve told y’all about just walking your asses in rooms without knocking. I’m a lil’ busy. Give us a few minutes.”

“Stanley!” Mama exclaimed.

“What! I don’t know about you, but I plan to finish. Bye Deuce.”

I stood there with a look of what I was sure was shock and disgust on my face. Did this bald headed, no couth having ass nigga just dismiss me?

“Nigga, get out!” He snapped, throwing a pillow at me.

I blinked rapidly for a moment before backing out of the room. In that moment, what the fuck else could I say. Absentmindedly, I walked back down the hall and downstairs. My phone started ringing. Pulling it from my pocket, I saw that it was Salima. I swiped the screen to answer.

“Baby—”

“Deucy, I need a favor. Can you—”

“Baby, I can’t do shit right now.”

She was quiet. “Deucy, who the hell are you talking to? You got me fucked up.”

“Baby! I just walked in on my parents fucking.”

The line went quiet before she broke into laughter.

“Stop lying,” she said through her giggles.

“Salima.”

“Wait… you’re serious?”

“I’m finna throw up, man.”

“Stanely, don’t be so dramatic. Shit happens. You know how many times I walked in on my parents growing up?”

“You ain’t helping, Salima! They ain’t supposed to be together.”

“I know you better lower your muthafucking voice. Matter of fact, I’m about to hang up. When you walk in this house, check your shit at the door. And leave my father and mother in-law alone. Let those people be happy, Stanley. Goodbye.”

She hung up in my face.

I sat there holding the phone. The silence only lasted a minute because I could hear my mama moaning and shit upstairs.

“Aw, hell nah!”

I went into the sunroom where I knew Pops kept his stash.

I needed to smoke. Logi would have told me to get the fuck out of here, but we were going to talk about this shit today.

I rolled up the blunt and lit it, taking it to the head.

It didn’t matter how many pulled I took, I couldn’t escape the sounds coming from upstairs.

My mama was loud and I knew Senior was doing that shit on purpose. I tried to turn on music and the TV the drown them out, but it was no use.

“That’s e-fucking-nought!” I yelled.

It grew quiet, only for a moment before the noise continued. My head was telling me to leave, but my anger kept me rooted in this house. Maybe it was best if they stayed upstairs because there was no telling what was gonna happen when I laid eyes on my father.
