Chapter 11
CHAPTER ELEVEN
DIESEL
It took two days, but by Thursday, I was sitting in the prison visitation room, feeling like I needed to throw the fuck up as I impatiently waited for Rory. I’d barely slept last night, getting in the truck before dawn so I could be here early.
What the fuck did I say to her? We’d been awkward before she was arrested, and I didn’t really want to confess my feelings to her here in the prison. I still wasn’t sure exactly how I felt, but I knew I needed her and my feelings were stronger than friendship.
How did I get past the guilt of moving on from Sasha? Could I even do that?
Rory appeared in the doorway as she started glancing around for her visitor, my stomach doing a little flip when her eyes landed on me and her entire face lit up.
The guard snapped at her to slow down when she practically jogged towards me, and my mind became quiet the second she threw herself at me and hugged me tight enough to fix half the cracks that had appeared since I saw her last.
“You’re here,” she said in disbelief, and I hugged her until the guards told us to step back.
We sat to avoid getting in more trouble, and I gave the guard a dirty look when I took her hand across the table and he went to scold us.
I must have looked scary or something because he shut his mouth and went back to scanning the room.
“How are you here? Hunter said you couldn't contact me,” she said, her voice tight.
“I gave Skeet an ultimatum. He chose this as the better option.”
“What was the other option?”
“He could shoot me right there in my own damn living room,” I scoffed, her hand tightening in mine.
“That’s not funny.”
“It wasn’t supposed to be. He knew I was done. I’m not his bitch. Skeet can go and fuck himself if he thinks the world has to be miserable just because he is,” I grunted, hating how her face fell a fraction.
“I can’t believe him and Caden won’t even come and talk to me,” she said softly, pulling her hand back. I almost reached for her again, not ready to let her go.
“You’ll be out soon. Hunt is working his ass off to find a way. It’s so good to see you. I felt like I was fucking dying without you.”
Her mouth curved into a small smile, my heart fluttering in response at being able to cheer her up a little.
“You’re a bit dramatic, you know?”
“I’m not. It’s been awful without you. Shit, I forgot you were hurt. Did I hug you too tightly?” I asked, but she shook her head.
“You didn’t hurt me. Things are going good in here at the moment.
Lexi and her crew have let me in, so a lot of the trouble has vanished.
I like the food, I have unlimited snacks and cigarettes, thanks to Josie paying to keep my commissary topped up, and I’m getting lots of school work done.
I might graduate before everyone back at the academy,” she grinned, putting her elbows on the table. “You know I wasn’t sleeping with—”
“I know. Hunter told me, and I believe him. It probably helped that I knew you guys were sneaking around as friends, but I warned you it would come to this. I hate to say I told you so, but I did,” I said lightly, and she sighed.
“I know. I’m sorry it caused you trouble. I miss you like crazy.”
“I miss you too. I can’t always answer the phone if I’m working, but try calling sometimes. It would be nice to talk to you if I can. If I don’t answer, it’s not because I don’t want to. I’m so sorry I didn’t answer the night you were arrested. I was working and—”
“It’s okay, D,” she murmured, taking my hand again.
“It’s not. I’m supposed to have your back.”
“Can you convince the guys that I don’t need a prison wife then? They’re driving me insane,” she snorted, and I chuckled.
“It would come in handy.”
“Dammit, not you too.”
I laughed, and she gave me a dirty look that was one hundred percent fake since she kept holding onto my hand.
She told me about the movies they’d been watching, what they’d had for breakfast, and gave me the drama of who had broken up with who, and I could have listened to her ramble forever.
I didn’t want to go back to Ashburn Valley, I wanted to sit right here until tomorrow’s visitation hours and get her to tell me what she had for breakfast all over again.
As long as I was with her, I was happy.
Our five minute warning made me feel sick, and I could tell she hated it too from the way her fingers tightened in mine.
Surely, Josie could get her conjugal visits so we could sit in a private room instead of this room full of people.
At least I could hold her properly then.
Josie would definitely get the wrong idea, but I was nowhere near ready to be intimate with someone, and even if I was, the last place I was going to do it was in a prison bed with a time limit.
I had to work on myself a hell of a lot before even considering taking a step like that with Rory.
“One night when you’re out, do you think we could go out together?” I asked before I could stop myself, her face softening.
“Like where?”
“Maybe the bowling alley? Or a movie? I just thought it would be nice,” I said awkwardly, knowing I’d said the right thing when she smiled wide.
“I’d like that. Bowling sounds fun.”
The guard let us know time was up, and I swallowed around the lump in my throat. I didn’t know when I could visit again, so I had to hope she could call me soon.
We both stood and I pulled her close, burying my face in her neck and just breathing her in. Hopefully, it was enough to get me through this bullshit.
She started walking towards the door, my chest aching as I watched her go.
“Rory, wait,” I blurted out, moving towards her and grabbing her face in both hands, startling her as I kissed her. She literally moaned, the guard barking at us to move along, but I needed just a little more.
At least I was sober enough to remember this one properly, and it was better than I could have imagined. Her tongue brushed mine, and I wondered if there was a way I could break her out of here without getting caught.
I finally pulled back, vaguely hearing the guard warning us again, and I loved how flushed Rory looked. I’d caught her off guard, but she wasn’t mad about it in the slightest.
“I’ll see you again soon. Promise,” I murmured, and she gave me a little nod before heading through the door with the other inmates, giving me one last smile over her shoulder before they closed the door behind her.
I probably sat in my truck for ten minutes after exiting the building, needing to remember how to drive. That kiss was all I could think about.
It was going to be a long fucking drive home.
Rory
My lips tingled from Diesel’s kiss, and I smiled to myself as I folded clothes in the laundry room.
His visit had been a surprise, and I was relieved to have seen him.
Had he asked me on an actual date, or did he just want to go out as friends?
The kiss made me think it was definitely a date, but it was hard to tell with him.
“What’s got you smiling like that?” Tilly grinned, drawing attention to me.
“Like what?” I asked, one of the other girls snickering.
“Donovan had a new man out there today. He was hot. Not as hot as that kiss though,” she called out, fanning her face with her hand and making the others hoot and cat call.
“Shut up,” I grumbled as my face heated, but Lexi smirked and moved towards me.
“Who was it?”
“None of your business, Bryant,” I scoffed.
“I thought we were besties now? That means you tell me all about the guys you’re kissing,” she chuckled.
“He had a Psychos jacket on,” the other girl said with a grin, Lexi’s eyes narrowing instantly.
“You’re just letting that asshole back in after he abandoned you?” she demanded, but the girl frowned.
“It wasn’t Skeeter.”
I blew out a breath, giving them a dirty look for gossiping.
“It was Diesel. Drop it, okay?” I warned, Lexi’s mouth opening in surprise.
“You had a hot make out session with Diesel? He was allowed to visit you?”
“Yeah. He didn’t give Skeet a choice,” I shrugged, not wanting her to know details. “At least I can call him now too.”
“Save some cock for the rest of us, Donovan,” Kat scoffed, and I raised an eyebrow.
“Not like you’re getting any. You’ll be dead twice over by the time you see the outside again.”
“You’re lucky I like you or you’d be dead before getting out too,” she said dryly, motioning to Tilly. “Leave some for our girl then.”
“I’m good,” Tilly laughed lightly, giving me the side-eye. “They’re not my type. I like calm, gentle men.”
“Diesel’s super calm and gentle,” Lexi offered, the girl who’d ratted me out only laughing.
“He practically just ate Donovan’s face.”
“Okay, new subject. He doesn’t like people knowing his business,” I huffed, and Lexi draped an arm around my shoulders.
“You’ll tell me later though, right?”
“No.”
“I’ll tell you about my sex life.”
“I don’t want to know,” I said sweetly, shrugging her off me.
One of the girls by the dryers started bragging about the hot guy she’d snagged just before being arrested, thankfully taking the focus off me. Regardless of if I wanted to openly talk about my sex life, I knew Diesel wouldn’t want people gossiping about him like that.
Shit, did Diesel want to have sex with me? What would that even be like?
I’d always thought he would be the type to make love to you, but from the stories I’d heard about him and Sasha, and the way he’d kissed me both times, I had a feeling he got rougher sometimes too.
Did he have a kink? I’d have to ask him if we talked about sex in the future, which I had a feeling we would. Sex was a big deal to him, there was no way he wouldn't want to discuss it beforehand.
“You’re drooling,” Lexi murmured, making me realize I’d zoned out and stopped folding clothes. “Did that kiss wake up your sex drive or something?”
“Eat shit.”
“I’d rather eat you,” she smirked.
“As you can tell, I’m a very busy woman. You won’t fit on my roster.”
“That’s fine. I get you after hours,” she replied slyly before walking back to the dryers to work.
