Chapter 16
CHAPTER SIXTEEN
RORY
“It could be anyone,” Lexi murmured from the couch, her eyes flicking over the newbies as they were brought to our block. “There’s five. Only two are placed with us, so what are the chances of one of them being the Soldiers’ bitch?”
“Forty percent,” I muttered from beside her, earning a flat look.
“Alright, rich bitch. Put your fancy education away.”
I snickered, watching the girls get shown their new rooms. They didn’t look tough, but that didn’t mean they weren’t going to be a problem. One looked terrified, but that could have been an act. It was a good survival tactic, but it would also get her taken advantage of.
I’d called Marco and Hunter yesterday, and they’d given me a heads-up that the Soldiers were placing a woman in the prison. So now every newbie was a potential threat.
Once they were out of view, Lexi motioned to Jamie to go and play the welcoming committee like she’d done with me, and I could hear Miss Jarvis introducing her to one of the girls.
“You didn’t let Jamie be my friend, it was so she could spy on me, wasn’t it?” I asked dryly, amusement flashing in her eyes.
“Of course. It’s better to keep your eye on people. My girls don’t do anything without me okaying it first.”
“Tilly?”
“She went behind my back to approach you, but she’s not really part of the crew. I don’t drag her into drama, but we keep her safe,” she shrugged, making me scowl as she moved to straddle me.
“Get off me, hoebag.”
She chuckled, leaning closer to nuzzle my throat. “You didn’t mind me climbing all over you last night.”
“I wasn’t thinking clearly,” I huffed, knowing I’d caved easily to her last night due to my sulking about missing Caden’s birthday.
“You weren’t thinking at all once I was done with you. Pretty sure your brain stopped working for twenty minutes,” she smirked, and I rolled my eyes.
“That’s because you tried to suck my soul out of my pussy.”
“You tasted really fucking good too,” she murmured, laughing when I swatted her.
“Bryant, get off Donovan,” Miss Jarvis sighed, making us glance behind the couch to see her standing there. “I trust you’ll be nice to Roberts and Vines?”
“That will really depend on them,” Lexi scoffed, sliding off my lap to sit beside me.
“You learned to play nice with Donovan.”
“That’s because Donovan fucks me good,” she purred, glancing at the girls as they joined us. “Hey. Do you guys fuck good?”
“Bryant!” Miss Jarvis snapped, but one of the girls chuckled.
“Take me for a ride and find out. If your girl doesn’t mind, that is.”
“Vines, behave. Bryant would eat you alive,” Miss Jarvis said dryly, Vines only smirking.
“I fucking hope so.”
The other girl, who must have been Roberts, watched us nervously and shook like a fucking chihuahua, not saying a word. Jamie rolled her eyes at us, but took the shaking girl’s arm to show her around, motioning to Vines.
“Hey, come on. I’ll give you the tour before lunch.”
Vines raked her gaze over Lexi one last time before leaving, and Miss Jarvis sighed as she left too, knowing the newbies were going to be trouble.
“I don’t like her. Too cocky and eager,” Lexi mumbled, her eyes on their retreating backs.
“We’ll watch them both. She could just be desperate to get in with a crew, and the other could be putting on an act to avoid suspicion. It could also be one of the other three in the other block, so let’s pray it’s one of them,” I scoffed, getting to my feet to stretch.
I’d rather not sleep in a cell block that was housing the enemy.
“It’s going to be a busy week in here. I need to handle a few things,” she grumbled, making me frown.
“Like what?”
“It’s better you don’t know.”
“Tell me, I’ll help,” I insisted, taking her wrist and tugging her towards her room so we could talk. “What is it?”
She blew out a breath, glancing out the door to make sure we were alone before closing it.
“One of Grovers’ girls has been smuggling crystal in. I don’t allow that shit in here. I need to teach them a lesson, but if we get caught, it’s added to our sentences. You’re still awaiting your day in court that could potentially get you out of here. It’s dumb for you to get involved.”
“Are you murdering the girl? C’mon, I can punch and you can do the talking,” I offered, and she chuckled.
“You really like punching people, don’t you?”
“I get a kick out of it, yes. They don’t host fights in here, right? I want in if they do.”
“No. They apparently tried a year ago but it went to shit fast. Keep your head down. You could get released any day if your case is dropped,” she huffed, toying with the ends of my hair. “As much as I’ll miss you when you leave, I don’t want to get you in trouble so you can stay longer either.”
“I told you not to fall for me,” I teased.
“I’m not,” she grumbled. “You just get me. You know what it’s like to be a woman in the crew world. It’s nice to not have to keep my mask on all the time around someone.”
“So let me help you,” I answered, giving her hand a squeeze. “What’s the plan?”
She studied me for a moment before nodding in defeat. “Fine. I need to get her alone in the bathroom, bribe a guard to distract the security room guy, cover the camera in the hallway, get my point across, then leave. We only have a small window to do it too.”
“How do you bribe a guard to do that?” I scoffed, and she raised an eyebrow.
“You do it on a day the creep is working. He’d turn a blind eye to murder if you fucked him. He’s completely driven by sex.”
“You seriously fuck him?”
“No different to the pervs on the outside I fuck or strip for. It’s just an exchange,” she shrugged.
“Kat will help us while Jamie and Tilly are occupied. We don’t like Tilly getting involved, and we can fill Jamie in later.
Just need to find a way to be in that hallway to block the cameras at the right time. ”
“Can you bribe some of the other girls?” I asked.
“With what? I don’t really have anything they’d want.”
“Do things from the commissary work? I have loads of cash in my account, so I could buy a bunch of stuff in exchange for their help,” I stated, a slow grin spreading across her face.
“That could work. I’ll ask some of them.”
She motioned for me to follow as we left her room, and we headed out to the yard where some of the girls were enjoying the sun.
“Hey, Maxwell,” Lexi called out as we made our way towards the basketball hoop, motioning for her to join us. Maxwell was the girl who’d stepped in to defend me last time I’d played with them, and she’d been nice to me ever since.
She jogged over, her dark brown pony tail swinging, giving us a nod in greeting. “What’s up?”
“Got a favor to ask,” Lexi answered, leaning closer. “Any of your girls working the cleaning roster in the hallway by the shower block?”
“Jetson and Murry are. What kind of favor?” she asked suspiciously as she studied us with dark gray eyes, crossing her arms.
“I just need a towel tossed over the camera. I have to handle something in the bathroom. We’ll get you whatever you want from the commissary,” she promised, Maxwell’s eyes sliding to me.
“Someone messing with you again?”
“Nah, I’m just itching to punch someone, and Bryant said she has a problem to handle,” I chuckled. “Whatever you want. Cigarettes, snacks, anything. I’ll cover it.”
She looked thoughtful for a moment, nodding slowly. “Cigarettes and snacks for both girls?”
“Absolutely.”
“Deal. You just tell us when and we’ll make it work,” she agreed.
“Did you get newbies this morning?” Lexi asked, and Maxwell grumbled.
“Yep. Three. One’s been crying in her room since she was brought in, one’s done time before and was originally part of another block, and the other is being a kiss ass. You?”
“Two. One’s terrified, the other is cocky and keen. Keep an eye on them, I have a bad feeling with this group,” Lexi stated, not wanting to outright say they were a problem in case it bit us on the ass later.
“Noted. I’ll let you know if we have problems,” Maxwell answered before heading back to the others to continue their game of basketball.
“Now what?” I asked as we lit a cigarette each and sat on the bench close by.
“I need to bribe the creep and set a time. I have no idea how to get Anderson alone to pull it off though,” she muttered, looking around the yard.
“Is she in with any of the girls that you trust? Could you get them to convince her to shower at a set time and stand back when we get there?”
“Doubtful. Most of the girls that run with Grovers hate me,” she said with a wry smile.
“Is there a way I can start a fight with her that we have to finish elsewhere later?” I asked, but she snorted.
“No. The whole group would show up to give you a beat down.”
“How do you separate people in here?” I mumbled under my breath, deep in thought.
We were on the way back to our room when an idea popped into my head.
“Hey. Kat’s happy to hang out in the hole, right?” I asked, and Lexi winced.
“Happy? No. Willing, yes. Why?”
I dragged her the rest of the way to her room, shutting the door and speaking quietly so no one could hear us.
“Get her to start on the others. With Tina and her guard dogs out of the way, it would leave Anderson exposed,” I said enthusiastically.
“They all get tossed in the hole for a few days to cool off, giving us time to handle our shit without the risk of interruptions,” Lexi mused, looking hopeful.
“I’ll ask Kat. It’s not like she cares about fucking up her criminal record more.
” A weird sense of excitement hit me at being part of this, and Lexi rolled her eyes when she noticed. “You’re a strange girl, Donovan.”
I couldn’t really argue with that.
Things went smoothly with our plan. Kat and Tina got into it quickly at lunch, the other girls jumping in to help and making it worse. Anderson tried to get involved, but one of the other girls stepped in instead, giving us a lucky break.
