Chapter 16 #2
“Excuse me, Mr. Brother-in-Law. Mine was champagne, this shit bout to be nasty as hell.” PJ twisted her face up, and I had to do the same ‘cause he fucked up my drink too.
“I’ll buy y’all a bottle. Until then, don’t give her nothing with bubbles. She’ll have gas tomorrow and y’all not gon’ be at the house to make an air freshener run when she goes through the bottles we have at home already.”
“Oh, stop it, baby. I am not that bad.”
“Mimi, he ain’t lying though,” PJ told her.
“Girl, fuck you too. You’re supposed to be on my side.”
“I’m on the right side just like you were when I pushed Zoo away. You were on the side of right, then, and I’m doing the same now. Yo’ ass be having some mean ass farts since you found out you’re pregnant. That lil’ girl got yo’ insides all fucked up.”
“Pen!” I yelled out then popped her in the arm. We weren’t supposed to know yet but Mimi told us right when she left the doctor this morning.
“Girl?” She hoped that Sin hadn’t caught what she said but yea, that was a negative. He heard her loud and clear.
Sin walked away without saying a word back to Mimi. The restaurant had a live band tonight and when he got the mic from them, Mimi’s eyebrows shot up to her hairline.
“I would like to take this time to thank everyone for coming. My baby said yes, and I thought this day couldn’t get any better for us. That was until my sister-in-law just slipped up and said we are having a baby girl.” Pausing, Sin had to gather himself before speaking again.
“I’ve already told y’all how this woman has become the best thing that ever happened to me.
Now, I have two reasons to always strive to be the best man I can be.
Thank you, baby, for saying yes, and for carrying my big-headed ass, spoiled daughter.
I love you more than life itself and we in this for life. ”
Everyone cheered meanwhile, The Three Stooges stood there crying like Sin was talking to all of us.
“Dance with me.”
Brooklyn walked over to me with come fuck me written on his forehead. Laughing, I removed the sticky note and placed it on mine.
“You are a mess. Where did you get this from?”
I saw Zoo laughing his ass off from across the room and knew then that he had a lot to do with this.
“Zoo got it from the waitress. He dared me to walk over here with this on my forehead. I had to get you to dance with me and he’ll pay me a stack.”
“That’s it? You gone give the stack to me, right?”
“The only catch is, we gotta dance fast to a slow song.”
“Really, Brooklyn? He wants us to look a fool.”
“We can go shopping in the morning. I’ll put a couple more stacks with that and buy you a new bag. Deal?”
“Hrs and Hrs” started to play and instead of replying, I started doing the running man and he was right beside me doing some dance I showed him on TikTok the other night.
I was laughing so hard because everyone was looking at us like we had lost our minds.
That wasn’t the case at all. Just by doing this, I realized that I’d found my person.
Someone who doesn’t care who’s in the room, he’ll still dance with me like no one is watching.
Brooklyn had the biggest smile on his face as he switched from dance to dance each time the songs changed.
After six songs, a bitch was tired as hell and needed to get some air. Luckily, the proposal dinner was over with and everyone was gathering their things to head outside.
“Baby, that was so much fun!” I yelled over the music that continued to play.
Grabbing his hand, I started walking off the semi crowed dance floor. It was mixed with family and friends of the Smith and London families. I couldn’t believe my best friend was getting married. This is something we’d all talked about but had no clue it would come sooner than later.
Mimi deserved this and I couldn’t even see her with anyone else but Sin.
They say one day someone will come along and make you see why it didn’t work out with anyone else.
Sin, Zoo, and Brooklyn showed us from the very beginning that nothing before them mattered anymore.
They were here now, and nothing was going to take them away from us.
“All I know is, that nigga better have my bread so me and my baby can go spend that shit with pride in the morning.”
“I know right, I’ve already had my eye on this Gucci.”
“We will get it plus more, tomorrow. Let’s go, these shoes got my feet hurting like a bitch. This is why don’t let shit touch my feet but Jordans. That other shit is for the birds.”
Grabbing up my things, we headed out the door and into the crowd that formed on the sidewalk. Brooklyn wrapped his arms around my stomach from the back as we walked towards the car.
“Aye, I told you they ain’t stop making guns when they made yours.”
Turning around, my eyes locked with Teddy, who stood there with a vicious look on his face.
His gun was pointed right at Brooklyn. Once the shots went off, Brooklyn was instantly pushed out of the way.
I closed my eyes and screamed, along with everyone else that stood outside.
When no other shots were heard, I opened my eyes only to see Zoo, laying on the ground next to my foot and PJ running through the crowd, trying to get to him.
Most of the people started to run the other way, while Sin and his family made their way over to us.
“Zoo, nooo! Baby, get up. Please get up,” PJ cried out, trying her best to lift him up.
Hysterically, I looked around for Brooklyn but the only sign of him was the back of his head, running through the crowd behind Teddy.
