Chapter 18 #2
Even if I wanted to, which I didn’t, I knew that I couldn’t and wouldn’t do that.
For one, touching what was mine was an automatic death sentence, and there was no coming back from that.
And, if that wasn’t enough, I wasn’t going to leave that nigga breathing long enough for him to come up with another stupid plan.
He needed to be put out of his misery, and I was more than happy to be the one to do that for him.
“Hey, baby. I wasn’t sure you were going to make it on time,” Kenedi said, smiling as I kissed her forehead and took a seat next to her.
“You should already know that I’d never miss something as important as this,” I said, grabbing her hand.
As we sat there waiting for them to call her to the back, Kenedi checked her emails, and I caught up on our family group chat.
I felt like shit with us was now beyond official since her mother added me to the family group chat.
I didn’t know why, but that shit was so important to me.
From what I knew, they had to really love me to add me to the group chat.
It was something that I wouldn’t take for granted at all.
They were the only family that I had now, and I wouldn’t do a damn thing to fumble them.
“Did you see that your mom wants us to come over for dinner tonight?” I asked, putting the phone back in my pocket.
“I did. I’m fine with it if you want to go. Oh, and I’m going to tell her that you said, ‘your mom’ because she said she already told you about that.”
Laughing, I replied, “Oh, you’re going to snitch on me? That’s crazy as hell. I’m working on it. It’s going to take some getting used to, but trust me, I’m working on it.”
“I know,” she said, leaning over and kissing my cheek. As she did, the nurse called us to the back.
After taking her weight, blood and urine samples, and some other shit I had no idea about, we were led into a room where they instructed her to undress and wait for the doctor to come in and do their exam.
I could tell that Kenedi was nervous, and shit, so was I, but I was more excited than anything.
I couldn’t wait for this pregnancy to breeze by so that we could meet our baby.
I had plans to do everything my father didn’t do for me growing up, which started with making them my top priority.
“Okay, Mrs. Hill, how are you and the baby feeling?”
“I thought it would be a good idea to get used to my soon-to-be new name,” Kenedi said, looking over and smiling at me before turning back to the doctor. “We’re doing fine. Just really excited to see what’s going on inside of here,” she said, rubbing her belly.
I had no idea that she was already using my last name, but I was more than happy for her to. As far as I was concerned, we could’ve left the appointment and headed straight to the courthouse and made shit legally official.
“Good. Well, let’s see what’s going on, shall we?”
Thirty minutes later, we were heading to Braum’s to get Kenedi her strawberry shortcake.
I wasn’t going to put it out there that she was trying to have dessert before dinner because I didn’t need her snapping at me.
This was my first time dealing with a pregnant woman that I cared about, but I knew more than enough about a pregnant woman to know that you didn’t come between them and their food.
“Are you sure you’re not going to get anything for yourself?” Kenedi asked as the lady scooped her ice cream.
“Nah, I’m not really hungry right now.”
“But I don’t want to eat by myself. That makes me look like a big back,” she said, pouting.
Chuckling, I nodded my head. The shit made no sense to me, but it had to be some kind of woman thing that I didn’t want to go against. So, getting the ladies’ attention, I told her I’d take the same thing Kenedi had ordered.
Now, we could eat together, and she didn’t have to feel as though she was being a big back.
“Thank you for eating with me,” she said, gently bumping her hip into my side.
“Anything for you, ma,” I said, moving toward the register so that I could pay for our ice cream.
FOUR MONTHS LATER.
“I can’t believe you actually went and got married on us,” Silas said, dapping me up as we stood next to the bar.
Everyone was so shocked that not only had Kenedi and I gotten married, but we had a baby due in a little over two months.
I, on the other hand, wasn’t shocked at all.
I was the happiest I’d ever been in my life, and I knew that shit would only get better from here on out.
The only two things left in this world that I could ask for was a safe delivery for Kenedi when it was time for her to bring our baby into the world, and more babies.
If Kenedi was up to it, I was trying to have our own little football team when it was all said and done.
As someone who didn’t grow up with a family, having one was extremely important to me.
My kids would never grow up feeling the pain that I felt being alone with no one to turn to.
And Kenedi would never have to do this life alone as long as I could help it.
She was the most important person in the world to me, and I was going to protect her with everything that I had in me.
“You better believe it,” I said, smiling as Kenedi waddled her way over to us.
She had already changed out of her dress into something more comfortable. She insisted on wearing heels for the wedding, but it didn’t take much convincing from her mother and me to get her to change her shoes and outfit so that she was more comfortable for the rest of the night.
“Are you good, bae?” I asked as she came and stood next to me, and I wrapped my arm around her.
“I’m great, my feet hurt a little,” she said, shifting her weight. Everything was uncomfortable for her now, and it was my job to help alleviate some of that as much as I could. There wasn’t much that I could do, but I was doing my best.
“Come on, let’s go sit down for a little while. You’ve been walking around for a minute,” I said, grabbing her hand and not giving her a chance to fight me on it.
Little did she know, we were about to get the hell out of here.
I was ready to make love to my wife and put her to bed so that she could get some rest. We decided to wait to take our honeymoon until after the baby came to take our honeymoon.
But we were both taking the next week off to relax and chill.
I really wanted her to start her maternity leave, but she wasn’t trying to hear it, and I wasn’t going to fight her on it.
As long as the doctor said she was good, I was going to sit back and be supportive.
“I’m so happy to be Kenedi Hill,” she said, leaning in and kissing my cheek as we took a seat and she admired her ring.
“Good, because that’s who you’ll be until the casket drops. Hell, even beyond that. You’re mine forever and eternity.”
Laughing, she replied, “I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
I wasn’t sure what the future held for the two of us, but I knew that it was bright.
We were married, had our first baby on the way, the record label was doing numbers, Kenedi’s career was taking off inside the label and outside, and shit was only up from here.
I knew that doing life together wasn’t going to be easy, but I was ready for whatever came our way.
No matter what it was, I knew that together, anything was possible.
“Before we leave, I want to do one last dance,” Kenedi said, bringing my focus back to her.
“Cool, let’s go, Mrs. Hill,” I said, grabbing her hand and kissing it as I pulled her up with her, and we made our way to the dance floor.
THE END.
