36 | ☕ Water They Doing? ☕ #3
Anya hesitated, her heart racing in her chest, but then she saw the light in Atlas's eyes, the way his smile made her feel like maybe, just maybe, she could let go. She took a deep breath and nodded. "Yeah. Let's do it."
The sound of rushing water and the shrill laughter of children filled the air, creating a chaotic symphony of excitement, but in that moment, everything else faded away.
Anya's world seemed to shrink down to just herself and Atlas, the dizzying speed of the water slide pulling her into the present, away from everything that had once held her back.
The slide twisted and turned, a sudden burst of adrenaline coursing through her as she laughed, the wind tugging at her hair and the cool water splashing around her, washing away the tension that had clung to her for so long.
She shot out of the slide and landed with a splash, her heart still racing from the sudden surge of excitement.
Her feet barely touched the water before Atlas appeared beside her, splashing down with ease, a wide grin spreading across his face.
The water flew in every direction as he wiped it from his eyes, his laughter ringing through the air like music.
For a second, Anya stood there, breathless and blinking, her heart still pounding from the ride.
She watched Atlas, a grin slowly tugging at the corners of her own lips.
His joy was infectious, and without even thinking, she mirrored his smile, the one she hadn't allowed herself to wear in a long time.
Her laugh bubbled up from deep within her, unbidden but genuine, a sound she hadn't heard from herself in what felt like forever.
Anya's fingers instinctively went to her lips, as if to hold back the sudden rush of emotions, but the laugh had already spilled out, and she didn't want to stop it.
For a moment, she didn't care about the messiness, the vulnerability of it.
There was something about this moment—the way the water glistened in the sun, the way Atlas's eyes sparkled with mirth, the way the world seemed to pause in that brief bubble of joy—that made everything else seem so distant.
Atlas noticed the change in her immediately, his smile softening as he stepped closer, his eyes searching hers with a quiet kind of tenderness. He didn't need words to communicate how proud he was, how glad he was to see her smile like that, like something real had ignited inside her once more.
They made their way to another slide, this one less intimidating than the last, and Anya felt a slight ripple of excitement run through her.
It was calmer, more inviting, and as she stepped up to the base, she noticed how the vibrant colours of the slide seemed to shimmer under the sun, drawing her attention.
But what really caught her attention was Atlas, always there beside her, his gaze steady, never wandering too far from her.
It was subtle, the way he kept his watchful eyes on her, as though he could sense any hint of discomfort before she even recognized it herself.
As they reached the slide's entrance, she glanced around, half expecting to see a familiar figure lurking somewhere in the distance, but all she saw were families, couples, and groups of friends enjoying the day.
The idea of someone watching over her, of being safeguarded by Atlas's quiet network, made her feel strangely secure.
Anya climbed up to the top of the slide, her heart skipped a beat, the thrill of the experience slowly building up again.
She glanced back at him one last time, meeting his eyes.
In that moment, Anya realized how much he had changed the way she saw the world, how he had helped her find new strength in the simplest of things.
She wasn't just letting go of the past—she was beginning to live in the present, something she hadn't been able to do for far too long.
With a deep breath, Anya threw herself into the slide, the sensation of the water rushing beneath her, the wind tugging at her hair, the freedom of it all filling her with exhilaration.
She laughed again, a sound she hadn't allowed herself to make so freely in years.
And as she shot down the slide, the feeling of Atlas's gaze never far from her, it was as if the world had suddenly become a little bit lighter, a little bit brighter.
As she reached the bottom of the slide, catching her breath and still smiling, she glanced back toward the top to see Atlas preparing himself for his turn. He looked more confident than he had any right to be—his posture rigid, his movements deliberate as he approached the slide.
But then, just as he stepped onto the platform and positioned himself at the top, something shifted in his expression. The corners of his mouth twitched, and for a split second, Anya could have sworn she saw a mischievous glint in his eyes.
Without warning, Atlas flung himself onto the slide with a dramatic flourish, but what came next was completely unexpected.
As the slide began to pick up speed, his voice broke the air in the most exaggerated, high-pitched sound Anya had ever heard—far too high-pitched to belong to someone of his usual stoic self.
Atlas tried to screamed(but it turns out he can only produce a high pitch sound), comically as he shot down the slide, the sound almost unrecognizable as his own. It was a full-on, over-the-top, girlish scream, as if he were in the midst of the most terrifying roller coaster ride imaginable.
Anya's eyes widened in complete disbelief, and for a split second, she froze.
Then, as the sound of Atlas's exaggerated scream echoed in her ears, she burst out laughing.
The sound was completely out of character for him, and it caught her completely off guard.
His high-pitched wail only seemed to grow louder as he sped down the slide, his arms flailing as if he were trying to steer himself, even though it was all just for show.
