THIRTY-THREE

DAKOTA

After a warm shower and a delicious feast—courtesy of Chase— I found myself cuddling to his side as the fire cracked and popped, bringing the room temperature up just enough.

I had convinced him to watch an episode of Geordie Shore with me, which he most definitely wasn’t keen on doing.

It had been hours, and I had no idea where Kaden and Logan were, or when they’d be back. But, I was thankful to have Chase. I needed him.

My eyes dropped to his lips and I shifted a little, tracing my fingers down the stubble along his jaw, inching closer. “My friends call you a DILF, by the way.”

His brows drew together when he turned his head to meet my eyes. “DILF?”

“Dad I’d like to fuck,” I explained and he looked taken aback.

“But I’m not a father.”

“The term gets thrown around loosely, don’t worry about it,” I shook my head, feeling heat pool in my belly. I lifted myself, straddling his lap and his hands found my waist.

“Maybe it’s the stubble,” he trailed off, running his fingers over the stubble on his jaw and I grinned.

“Point is, they think you’re hot.”

“Is that what you think?” he asked, sliding his hands to my ass to pull me closer.

“Nah,” I shook my head. “The more I see you, the older you get,” I teased and he scoffed, shaking his head at me. “I’m kidding,” I assured him, running my fingers along the stubble. “You know I love your face,” I whispered against his lips before kissing him.

His kiss was tender as his hands traveled to my waist. Slowly, I rocked my hips back and forth, breaking the kiss.

His hand held the side of my face as he pressed his lips to my neck. My head rolled back, and his hand slipped to my ass as he squeezed, pulling me up against his body. “Chase…” I sighed, allowing my eyes to flutter closed.

His hand slipped from my ass to between my thighs, making my mouth fall open. He cupped my pussy through the thin material of my panties and I shuddered, rocking my hips to a faster rhythm.

His fingers teased my soaked entrance and I moaned when the wet suck of his mouth latched onto my skin. He sucked hard, forcing frantic tingles of electricity to buzz in my veins.

“Ahem.”

I turned my head to see a very displeased Kaden in the doorway.

Chase didn’t seem to pay him any mind as he continued leaving kisses down my chest.

“You,” Kaden pointed his finger at me. “Here. Now.”

“We’re busy,” Chase brushed him off, lifting his head and Kaden’s angry eyes darted to him for a split second.

“Don’t fuck with me right now, Chase. Dakota, get over here,” he demanded and subconsciously my body got up to follow him.

I glanced back at Chase, but he only shifted lower, lifting his hips to get comfortable.

With a deep breath in, I entered the kitchen, seeing Kaden stand with his arms crossed over his chest.

“Yes?” I forced an innocent smile.

“Don’t give me that look,” he lowered his voice as he stepped towards me. “Why was your curly haired friend walking down our driveway, looking for you?”

“Solace was here?”

“Yes, Solace was here,” he said irritably. “How did she know to find you here?”

I opened my mouth to speak, then shut it immediately. I shook my head, confused.

“Jesus Christ, Dakota,” he let out a heavy sigh. “The front door was open. If I wasn’t already outside, she would’ve walked in on what I did.”

“I didn’t know—”

“I thought we made it clear. You can’t disclose what happens here with anyone else.”

“I don’t…” I trailed off, watching him run a frustrated hand down his mouth.

“And, you had to give her the address too?”

“This is my new home, but according to her, it’s just where Logan tutors me.

She doesn’t have anyone else,” I shot back.

“I’m all she has, and if there’s an emergency, I always tell her to find me first,” I explained, feeling my chest rapidly rise and fall before a look of realization takes over my face. “If she found me that means…”

“Kaden, what’s going on?” Chase asked, entering the kitchen behind me and my head snapped up to him.

“I have to go,” I breathlessly said, making my way out of the kitchen. I need to find Solace.

I rushed out of the house, grabbing my phone in the process. I called her but she didn’t answer. I immediately got into my car, driving down the driveway in a hurry. Fuck, Lacey, I’m sorry.

As soon as I exited through the gates, I took my first left but immediately stopped, seeing her sitting on the sidewalk. Her head was on her knees and I could see her visibly trembling. No…

I immediately turned the ignition off and rushed out of the car, running to wrap my arms around her.

“Solace, what happened?” I asked, and her head snapped up with puffy eyes.

“I didn’t do it, D,” she whispered, shaking her head. “I swear, you— you have to believe me,” she stammered.

“I know, I know,” I pulled her into my arms. “I am so sorry,” I apologized, holding her close.

She steadily pulled back, looking at me with reluctance. “Yeah?”

“Yes, Lacey, I’m so, so sorry,” I said as I held onto her. “I should’ve never doubted you.”

“Oh my God,” she breathlessly smiled, pulling me into her arms. “I’d never betray you, Dakota, I swear.”

“I know,” I breathed. “How’d you get here?”

“Asher dropped me off two blocks away, then I walked over,” she explained. “He thinks he dropped me at a friend’s. I didn’t want him to have this address, and risk accidentally exposing you.” Oh my God… in the midst of all this, she’s still thinking about me.

Tears swelled in my eyes as I clutched her to me, burying my face in her shoulder. Guilt consumed me, knowing that I doubted her. My best friend. The person who had been at my side through it all. I’d never forgive myself.

“We’re good?” she broke the hug, holding my face in her hands.

My bottom lip trembled. “Can you forgive me, Lacey?”

Her warm smile melted my heart. “Of course, baby,” she cooed and we broke out in a sad chuckle.

She wrapped her arms around me, and my mind eased into her comfort. I didn’t need to force peace anymore, because it was right here. In the arms of my best friend.

“But Lacey,” I broke the hug. “Why’d you apologize if you didn’t do it?”

She sniffled. “I thought you were referring to the fact that I told Daisy about Mr. Illegal aka Mr. Muscle. But, I didn’t mention Logan,” she quickly reassured me. Oh, Solace…
