THIRTY-FOUR #2

I chuckled, shaking my head. Sometimes my mom texts me like a teenage boy.

I texted back that I was about to fall asleep, and stared at my screen for what felt like ten minutes but there was no response from her.

I tossed my cell phone back on my bed, cuddling my stuffed toy. I know I’ll see him soon. We just have to wait for all of this to blow over.

My cellphone chimed again, but before I could reach for it there was a knock on the door.

I climbed out of bed and dragged my feet out of my room. Let’s play a game of ‘did my mom forget something’ or ‘is she being an irresponsible teenage girl who sneaks in late.’

I unlocked the door with the face she usually held whenever I came home late, but it immediately vanished when Logan stared back at me.

Without thinking, I leaped into his arms, swinging my arms and legs around him. “Hey, baby,” he chuckled, holding the back of my thighs and pressed multiple kisses to the side of my head.

He carried me inside and shut the door. I buried my face in the crease of his neck, too afraid to let go. His familiar scent landed straight in my chest, giving my heart comfort.

Holding me with one arm, he locked the door and carried me into my bedroom. He shut the door and I pulled back.

“What are you doing here?” My eyes grew wide. Before he could answer, I pressed my lips to his and he smiled into the kiss.

He carried me to my bed, carefully laying me down and climbing on top of me.

Our tongues danced to a slow, passionate rhythm and warmth bloomed across my chest. It felt so good having him close to me again.

My arms around his neck tightened, and his hand rested on my waist.

Slowly, I broke the kiss. “You shouldn’t have come all this way,” I shook my head. “You didn’t have to,” I corrected myself.

“Of course, I did,” he gently brushed a strand of hair out of my face. “My girl needed me.”

A sad smile spread across my lips and I kissed him before pulling his body closer to mine. I squeezed him in my arms as hard as I could, and he chuckled.

“Thank you,” I kissed his cheek multiple times before an uncontrollable shriek escaped me.

I let go of him, unable to contain my excitement and the smile that took over his face fixed my shattered spirit.

He sat down and I jumped upright, crossing my legs. “Logan, you really shouldn’t have come. I don’t want you getting in any more trouble,” I admitted.

“Stop worrying so much, yeah?” He cupped the side of my face and I sighed, leaning into his touch. “I missed you too, you know?”

My reply was coated in sarcasm. “Really? Little old me?”

He chuckled, shaking his head at me and I took his hand in mind, entwined our fingers then met his gaze.

“Do Chase and Kaden know you’re here?”

“It’s our secret,” he winked, and blush coated my cheeks. “Why’d you seem so upset when I called earlier?”

“Long day,” I vaguely answered.

“Another substitute?”

I shook my head without looking at him. “Worse. A professor,” I glanced back at him and the corners of his lips lifted into a grin.

I heavily exhaled, looking at our hands in my lap. “I just want my professor back.”

“No, you can’t skip his classes and have me teach you instead.”

My jaw dropped in disbelief as I shot upright to look at him. “But… why?”

He gave his head a slight shake and I threw my head back with an irritable groan. A grin of mischief played on my lips as I looked at him, running my hands over his broad shoulders. “But he’s not as good as you,” I lowered my voice to a murmur as my eyes undressed him.

When I finally met his gaze, something tempting flickered behind his eyes. I shifted, straddling his lap and both his hands gripped my ass instinctively.

He lifted his hips underneath me before leaning back on his hands.

“You’ve only had one lesson with him.”

I leaned in, kissing up his jaw. “One lesson was all I needed,” I murmured, allowing my lips to hover over his ear.

“To know that you’re better at it,” I rolled my hips once.

I flicked his earlobe with my tongue, arching my back to force my chest into his.

“So much better,” I whispered, trailing my nails up the nape of his neck.

“No.”

I rolled my eyes, shifting back to meet his daring gaze. “Logan—”

His fingers wrapped around my throat and he cut me off with a warning. “I’ll tutor you, but you will not skip classes, do you understand me, Dakota?”

I immediately nodded. “Yes. I’m sorry.”

He leaned in, pressing a kiss to my forehead. “Good. Now, I have to go.”

A deep frown formed on my face. “You just got here.”

“I never intended on staying long,” he tucked a few strands behind my ear. “You know I can’t.”

“Five more minutes,” I wrapped my arms around his neck, shifting closer. “Please?” I pecked his lips.

“Need more convincing,” he murmured and I smiled, pressing my lips to his. Kissing him again felt like an unlimited supply of fireworks exploding between us.

Instinctively, my hips rolled against him and his hand lifted to grip the nape of my neck.

I wished he could stay forever, but I knew I was being unreasonable and irresponsible. Slowly breaking the kiss I sighed. “I’ll see you soon, Professor Hale.”

I hated how heavy my heart felt right now, but this was necessary.

“Dakota?” my mother’s voice wrung through the air and my eyes shot open. Shit.

I scurried off the bed, pushing Logan towards the bathroom and insisted he stay quiet.

“Sweetheart, I just—oh!” my mom immediately froze. “Everything okay?”

“Yeah,” I cleared my throat, standing with my back against the bathroom door. “I was just feeling queasy, but I’m fine now.”

She nodded as though she didn’t entirely believe me, so I changed the topic.

“What are you doing back so soon?”

A smile of pure excitement danced on her lips. “The girls and I decided to head to the club,” she wiggled her shoulders at me.

“Oh?” I nearly laughed. “Mom, are you sure—“

“Watch it,” she shot me a playful warning, eyes narrowed. “I still got it, okay?”

“Sure,” I fought back a smile, approaching her.

“The girls are waiting outside. I just came up to get these,” she lifted a pair of six inch red bottoms to me and my eyes grew wide.

“I don’t think—never mind,” I shook my head.

“I won’t be home tonight,” she pulled me into her arms for a hug. “So you and the man in the bathroom can have fun,” she squeezed me and I smiled.

“Thank you—wait what!” I broke the hug.

“You heard me.”

“Mom, there’s no one in the bathroom,” I awkwardly chuckled.

“Then you wouldn’t mind me having a look,” she stepped past me.

“No!” I blurted out, stepping in front of her. “I threw up. It’s a mess.”

She pinned me with a look and leaned forward to whisper in my ear, “I used to clean the shit out of your ass, sweetheart. Some vomit won’t scare me,” she stepped aside but I blocked her again.

“The girls are waiting,” I forced a smile.

Her arms folded over her chest. “Admit there’s a man in there and I’ll leave.”

An exasperated sigh fell from my lips. “Mom.”

“Dakota,” she mocked me.

“Fine, okay,” I gave in. “There’s a guy in my bathroom.”

“I knew it!” she almost cheerfully sang.

“How’d you know?” I mumbled.

“You think you would’ve been here had I not snuck a man around?” she almost reminded me and my jaw dropped in disbelief. She hugged me again, saying goodbye to me and ‘the naughty man in the bathroom’, before leaving my bedroom.

I immediately shut my bedroom door, sighing in relief.
