Chapter 19 #2
He is livid, his fangs protruding. He grabs me, shaking me by my arms. Tobias places his hand on his arm. “Let her go now.” Theo stops shaking me but doesn’t let go. Instead, he pulls me closer, his nose nearly touching mine. His eyes staring into my fearful ones.
“You want to know who she is?” He snarls the words, his gentleness gone, his cool breath making me shiver.
“Theo, don’t you fucking dare,” Tobias tells him, gripping his arm tighter.
Merida stays behind him, eyes wide and fearful. But Theo wants to hurt me, he wants to make me suffer. His eyes gleam with the possibility of it and he smiles at me.
“She’s our fucking wife.”
My gut clenches like I've been punched. Tears brim and I blink them away. Their wife? She is their wife, and I’m destroyed just like he wants. Like a broken toy, I fall to my knees, his words echoing.
“What? You’re fucking married?” Despite my current on the floor situation, I’m pissed. They dared to take me as a mate, kidnap me, hold my very life hostage, and they are married?
Tobias looks panicked. Theo finally comes out of his vengeance spirit mode and realizes what he said. He lets go of my arms and staggers back. Merida is on the verge of running and is visibly shaking.
“Let us explain. Please," Theo pleads, his softness returning. I don't give a fuck.
“No, I want to leave, now!” I scream tears running down my face.
Merida goes to bail, turning toward the front door.
I call out to her, scrambling to my feet.
“Merida, wait.” I run up the stairs and grab my handbag.
Theo and Tobias yell at each other. I don’t care.
I’m not going to be someone’s mistress. No wonder I had the impression I was a little doll to them.
Grabbing my phone off the charger. I stomp back down the stairs, ignoring them both, fighting in the living room.
Things are breaking all around me, or is that just my insides?
Merida stands frozen, not moving her eyes, watching the fight. I touch her arm and she jump.
“Let’s go,” I say. She nods, but as soon as we turn to the door, Theo stands in front of it.
“Leave, Merida, or I will make you.” His voice is ice cold. Merida pales and goes to walk around him, his eyes never leaving her. I push Theo to the side. To follow after her. “Not you, you’re staying.”
“Like fuck I am. I won’t be the other woman, Theo, fucking move.
What, did you think you could be married and we would all live like one happy family?
Fuck off.” I snap. Merida opens the door and walks outside heading toward the car, she looks back at me fleetingly.
“Tobias, tell him to move or so help me god I will fucking reject the pair of you right now.”
Tobias moves to my side, his lip bleeding and his shirt ripped. “Let her go, Theo, we need time to cool off. She will be safe with Merida,” Tobias says, his chest pushing into my back. I have to fight the urge to lean into him. This stupid mate bond is going to be the death of me.
Theo glares at Tobias, refusing to move. My face is drenched in tears, my hands shaking. How can they do this to her? How can they do this to me? “Move, please,” I beg. I just need to get away from them, clear this constant fog taking over my brain
Theo sighs, eyes searching mine. "She's dead, Imogen. You really don't have to worry about her."
I don’t care that she is dead. The fact is they were married and didn’t say anything, yet she was on Tobias’s mind. How do you compete with that? “Move please,” I repeat. I look to Tobias, and he nods at Theo and Theo steps out of the way.
“She can’t get far, Theo, just let her go.”
Theo growls. I dart past. Merida looks relieved when I walk out heading toward her white Subaru Liberty.
I open the passenger side sliding into the seat.
Only when I try to plug my seatbelt in, do I notice how badly my hands are shaking.
Merida sees me struggle with the belt, leans over and clips it in for me.
“Thanks.”
She nods and quickly starts the car doing a U-turn, she turns the car around and starts heading down the driveway. I lean back on the seat, closing my eyes. Willing all of this to just be another bad dream.
When we were out of the driveway, Merida finally spoke. “What do you want to do now that you have escaped?” she asks.
“I have no idea I just wanted to get away from them; I could really use a bloody drink, though.”
She nods, a smile playing on her lips. “We could have a girl’s night, maybe later go out?”
I smile. That sounds nice. It’s actually nice to be in another female’s company. “That sounds awesome, but I don’t have anything to wear out.”
“You’re my size, you can borrow something. Let’s head back to my place.” We drive to the City before heading toward the apartment block. It’s the same apartment block where my apartment is.
“You live here, too?” She nods before turning the car off. We get out and she tosses the keys at the valet, who catches them.
“Yep, this is actually the pack house.”
“Packhouse? I lived in an apartment building full of werewolves?” No wonder they had a strict policy on no cats. I chuckled remembering Theo telling me before getting angry for even thinking of the jerk.
Her lips turn up slightly. “Yep, come on, I’ll see if any of the girls want to head out with us tonight.” As we enter the foyer, the girl behind the desk, calls out to Merida. “Alicia, hey, want to go out tonight with me and Imogen?”
The girl stands. She had curly red hair and green eyes, and a smattering of freckles on her nose.
She is quite pretty but in a delicate kind of way; she looks innocent.
But the grin that lights up her face, I can tell she is anything but innocent.
Oh, this is going to be fun I can tell already as a devious smile lights up her face.
“Martin’s?” Alicia asks. I’ve heard of it but have never been.
It’s a huge nightclub on the other side of the City.
Merida glances at me questionably letting me decide. “I’ve heard of it, so I’m down.”
Alicia yips and claps her hands excitedly. “Let me get someone to cover the foyer. I will be up in a minute, it’s time to party.” she says shaking her ass.
Merida and I laugh at her enthusiasm before heading over to the elevator. We get in and Merida takes me to the second floor, when the elevator doors open. I nearly walk into Floyd as we step out.
Floyd smiles before doing a double take, realizing who I am. “What is she doing here, Merida? Does Tobias know?” he asks, looking worriedly at her. I bite back a giggle at the thought but he probably thinks she kidnapped me in some twisted love triangle or something.
“Yes, he knows and we’re going out.”
“Tobias won’t like that, Merida.”
“I don’t care what Tobias or Theo like, we are going out.” I reply, glaring at him. Man were all werewolf men this overbearing and this god darn sexy?
I watch as he pinches the bridge of his nose, his eyebrows furrowing. “Where are you taking her?”
“Martin's” Merida tells him, unfazed by his line of questioning.
He opens his mouth gaping like a fish. We ignore him and turn, heading in the direction Merida is leading me. “Wait.” We both stop and peer back at him. “If you’re taking her, I’m coming. Tobias will bloody kill us if anything happens to her.”
“Fine, be ready by nine, Beta,” she says the “Beta” bit sarcastically. Why do I have a feeling Floyd might be the killer of fun?
When we get to the apartment, Merida opens the door and I step inside.
Her apartment is the same as mine yet has a hippie feel to it, nothing I expected from the proper and prim lady I saw at the office.
She even has tie dyed beaded curtains on all the doorways.
Huge round rugs in all different colors on all the floors and giant bean bags instead of chairs.
“Make yourself at home,” she says, and I do, feeling relaxed for the first time.
I chuckle. “Drink?” she asks, holding up a bottle of red wine.
I look at the time. Technically it is evening already, lunchtime isn’t too early to start drinking.
I nod and she walks over handing me a glass, I watch as she fills it.
And I mean fills it—the glass is huge. I stare stunned.
If we keep drinking like this, there is no way I’m actually going to be awake to leave tonight.
I sip it and Merida laughs. “Come on, let's find something for you to wear.”
We head in her bedroom which is also decorated similar to the rest of the house.
She rummages through her wardrobe pulling different dresses out that are extremely revealing.
Tobias would pitch a fit if I wore one of them.
Which makes me want to wear them all the more.
I want to punish them, both of them. Why do they have to keep so many damn secrets from me?
