Chapter 11 Trooper

Trooper

“Ay, her dad is mugging the fuck outta you, Troop. You know him like that?” Los asked before he turned up his glass.

“Never met him before, but he acts like he knows me,” I said, looking across the room.

Sophie stood with her mother and father and he didn’t look happy. In fact, he appeared more concerned with watching me than talking to his wife and daughter.

“You don’t think he’s dirty, do you? Maybe you know that muthafucker. You dealt with a lot of people, Troop.”

“Not him, but I swear his wife looks familiar. Like I’ve seen her before.”

“Oh shit, you didn’t tap Moms, did you?” Los asked with a grin.

“Hell no, not that kind of familiar, but I’ve seen her before.”

“Ay, I’m just saying, get her to bend over to be sure. That back view might bring your memory back.”

“Shut the fuck up. I would know if I had sex with her mother, it’s not that.”

“Well, you’re about to find out because here they come. I’m out, good luck with that.” Los took off toward Maddie, leaving me to deal with Sophie and her parents solo.

“Hey baby, I’d like for you to meet my parents,” Sophie said, sliding next to me and slipping her hand into mine. I could tell she was nervous, which was cute.

I laced my fingers through hers and held firmly to her hand, hoping it would relax her a bit. Things like this didn’t really move me. Whether her parents liked me meant more to Sophie than to me.

Nodding at both, I waited for Sophie to speak again. “This is my mother, Alana Prescott, and my father, William Prescott.”

“Nice to meet you both,” I said, extending a hand toward her father.

This muthafucker just stared at it for a minute before he accepted hesitantly. I smirked at his arrogant ass.

“And you are?” he asked with a little too much bass in his voice.

Normally I wouldn’t have rocked with that type of disrespect, but this wasn’t the time nor the place and I wasn’t about to complicate things for Sophie.

“Trooper, Trooper Carter,” Sophie announced, which was good because I wasn’t gonna say anything to him.

“Carter? Any relation to Brighton Carter?” he asked with a smug grin.

I had no idea who the fuck Brighton Carter was, but he and I both knew I wasn’t related to that muthafucker.

“Not unless he from the slums of Brooklyn,” I said calmly.

“No, he’s definitely not.”

“Well, we’re pleased you could join us this evening. Sophie told me all about you yesterday.” She surveyed my face like she knew me too. It was weird as hell, because she was familiar, I just couldn’t figure out how.

“I’m going to go talk to Lloyd. If you’ll excuse me,” her father said dryly before he turned to leave.

I chuckled at how he thought that meant something to me.

“You’ll have to forgive him. He’s in business mode tonight. This is a very important evening for him and Sophie,” Mrs. Prescott said.

“Oh yeah, she didn’t tell me that,” I said and kissed her cheek.

“Yes, it is,” her mother said with raised brows before she glanced at Sophie. I didn’t know what that was about. “I’m surprised she didn’t mention it. She just brought in a huge account, one of the biggest we’ve had so far. She’s been talking about it nonstop.”

“Mom, no I haven’t. It’s not that big of a deal,” Sophie said, looking up at me.

She never really discussed work with me. I’d ask about her day and she downplayed it. I figured she just didn’t want to discuss work with me, which I was cool with, but her mother made it seem like she was keeping something from me.

I hoped Sophie didn’t think I couldn’t relate. I knew business. Maybe not marketing, but if it was part of her, I didn’t want her keeping it from me like she couldn’t share that part of her life.

“It’s cool, Sophie, you work hard and you should be proud of that.” Again, my lips found her cheek and her mother smiled.

“Exactly. Well, enjoy your evening, I’m going to mingle.”

She walked away, leaving us alone.

“It’s really not that big of a deal. It’s just business,” Sophie tried to explain.

I stepped in front of her and took her face into my hands before I delivered a series of kisses.

“Ay, it’s cool. Don’t feel any type of way about that, just know you don’t have to keep that part of your life from me.

I know shit, Sophie, and if good things are happening for you, tell me.

I’m proud of you, baby girl. You’re doing your thing and I respect that. ”

She grinned as her eyes searched my face. “I know. It’s just… with you, things are different. There’s no pressure and I like that. I like who I am with you, that’s all. I’m not hiding anything from you.”

“Good, ’cause you about to have a muthafucker in his feelings.”

She laughed. “Let’s go. I want to introduce you to a few people, then we can have drinks with Maddie and Carlos.”

For the next hour, Sophie dragged me with her from group to group.

With each conversation and introduction, she grew more comfortable.

The first time she introduced me as her boyfriend, she looked at me like she had done something wrong while waiting for my approval.

I smiled and nodded, and thereafter, she let it flow with ease.

I was cool with that. It didn’t mean shit to me, but if it was important to Sophie, I could rock with it.

When we finally crossed paths with Orin, I thought I was gonna have to check her ass because she kept grilling Sophie hard as fuck and shooting daggers at me.

The dude with her was oblivious to her basically eye fucking me all night, which I though was funny.

After I downed a few drinks, it was time for a bathroom run.

I left Sophie with Maddie and Los while I slipped away.

The second I hit the corridor and entered the men’s room, shit went downhill.

Orin was right behind me. As soon as the door closed, she rushed me and her hands went right to my suit pants.

“Ay, not happening,” I said, grabbing her wrist, but she snatched away and slipped her hand into my boxers.

“Why? You know you want it. I bet Sophie would never take care of you like this.” Orin moved down my body and took me whole.

“Fuck, man.” My fingers dug into her hair and I gripped it firmly, guiding her head as she worked her magic.

Orin’s head game was undeniable, and as wrong as it was, I let her do her thing. After I released down her throat, she was on her feet again, smiling at me.

“You know you miss that, Trooper. She’s not me,” Orin said with a grin and tried to slide her arms around my neck, but I pushed her back.

“Last time, Orin. You can get that, but don’t come at me like that anymore.

You’re right, she’s not you. She would never do any shit like this because it’s shady as fuck.

I don’t have to worry about her giving head to a man who doesn’t belong to her in a fucking bathroom. That’s something you would do.”

I fixed my clothes and she just stood there looking at me, like I had somehow insulted her by calling her out on what she’d just done. Hell, she’d insulted her gotdamn self.

“Really, Trooper?”

“Yes, really. Now get the fuck out so I can pee and get back to Sophie. You, on the other hand, need to figure your shit out, but you better do that without making Sophie part of it. Are we clear?”

“Yeah, we’re clear. I won’t say shit to her because I know you’ll eventually be back. Enjoy your night, Trooper. And when you’re fucking her, just remember that the first nut was on me.”

I shook my head at Orin. She’d shown a side I didn’t know. People never showed their true colors until they wanted someone to see them for who they really were. This bitch was crazy.

After I peed and washed my hands, I exited the bathroom and had four eyes on me. Just fucking great. Sophie’s parents were outside the bathroom in a heated discussion.

“This is what you want for her? That’s the type of man you’re okay with your daughter being with?” her father yelled at his wife before he cut his eyes toward me. “He was in there fucking another woman while our daughter is only a few feet away.

“Ay, mind your business. I didn’t do shit with her,” I said, taking a step toward him. My hand moved to my side out of habit before I realized I wasn’t strapped. His eyes followed my hand and he laughed.

“He’s just like him. A common thug, but you’re okay with that, right, Alana?

You better tell him to keep that muthafucker away from our daughter or all bets are off.

I’ll come for him the same way and you know what I’m capable of.

Keep him away from Sophie before she ends up like you.

Only difference is she won’t have anyone to save her like I saved your trifling ass. ”

I was confused as fuck as to what I had just walked into. Her father stormed off and her mother looked like he had just crushed her soul.

“What the hell was that?” I asked.

“Ask Story,” she said softly, then walked away, but I was right behind her.

“Story? How the fuck do you know Story?”

She stopped and looked me in my eyes. “That’s a conversation he needs to have with you, not me.”

There was a sadness to her as she spoke and I needed answers she wouldn’t give. I would be heading upstate soon because I had to know what the fuck was going on.
