Chapter 51
Sophie
“Do you regret dealing with Trooper?”
I frowned at Maddie, but her expression didn’t change. She was seriously asking.
“No, why would I?”
“I don’t know, so much has changed. Your family’s not your family anymore, you got attacked by strangers, you don’t have a clue what is about to happen with your career, and you’re also pregnant. It’s a lot, and like it or not, it’s all connected to him.”
“Wow, hearing you detail how screwed up my life is makes me think maybe I should have regrets, but no, I don’t. I love him, Maddie. I love us. I don’t care about all the other stuff. It’s just details, and it won’t make or break me as long as I have him.”
Maddie grinned and threw a pillow at me. “Ohh, boo, you got it bad.”
“Shut up, no I don’t.”
“Yes, you do.” She shot back at me and nodded at the same time. “But that’s a good thing. Lord knows it’s about time. I’ve never seen you this happy. Even with all the chaos in your life right now, you’re still happy.”
“I’m a nervous wreck right now is what I am.
I’m worried about Trooper, I’m worried about my father, and I’m worried about what William will do to my mother.
But even with all that, I’m still happy.
My life feels like a movie. All the things happening just don't seem like they should be, but here we are.”
“Yep, an episode straight out of did this shit really just happen.”
“Maddie,” I yelled through a laugh and she returned a huge grin.
“What? You know it’s true. But I’m happy too. Like really fucking happy, Sophie.”
Maddie was beaming and it looked good on her. She and I had both found what we didn’t know we were missing and that was worth smiling about.
“And you’re talking about I got it bad. Look at you all giddy.”
“It is what it is,” Maddie said with a grin, like it just made sense. “But, Sophie, he's so imperfectly perfect. His mouth is reckless, the man is fine, oh lord is he fine, and sex with him is fucking amazing.”
I burst out laughing and she frowned at me. “What’s so funny?”
“You are. You do realize you just said fucking two times in the last two minutes. You channeling your inner gangster?”
“Hell yeah, I am. I’m his little OG and you better be Trooper’s.”
“Girl stop. The only thing gangster about me is the man I’m in love with. This baby I’m carrying is probably more gangster than I’ll ever be because it has fifty percent of his DNA. I can only be who I am.”
“And I love who you are, so don’t change.” Trooper’s deep voice bounced off the walls, causing me and Maddie both to look his way.
Los was behind him, but had his phone to his ear, which made Maddie frown at him.
“What’s my baby doing?” Trooper questioned the second he was near me.
Leaning down over my body, he forced me back enough to plant kisses on my stomach before he worked his way up to my neck, then my lips.
“Your baby is resting peacefully and I’m good too. Thanks for asking.”
Trooper chuckled and sat down next to me. I’m not worried about you, ’cause if you ain't right, I got something to fix that, but my hands are tied with this one.” He slipped his hand under my shirt and rubbed my stomach. “I can’t do shit for him, so that’s all on you right now.”
“Fuck you mean it ain't right? Why the fuck is that?” Carlos yelled before he turned his back to us and left the room.
I glanced at Maddie, who looked tense.
“Shit is crazy right now. He’s good, don’t worry about that,” Trooper said and winked at her.
“I’m not,” Maddie said, trying to sound like she wasn’t concerned, but Trooper and I both knew better.
He laughed and nodded. “Yes the fuck you are, but it’s cool, you’ll get used to it. He be all in his feelings when shit don’t go right, and right now he’s got a lot going on. Speaking of that, we’re sending both of you to Jamaica for a week.”
“Sending us?” I frowned and looked at him. That didn’t sound good. As much as I’d enjoyed our trip last time, I really didn’t want to go without him.
“Yeah, sending.” He gave me a look that said don’t debate him, but I wasn’t that person.
“You can’t send me anywhere and does that mean you don’t plan on going?”
Trooper laughed sarcastically and looked me right in the eyes. “I can and will, and no, I’m not going. Just you, Maddie, and your mother, and before you say some fucked up shit, just listen…”
He looked up as Los entered our bedroom again. “There’s a lot going on right now. It’s complicated as fuck and too much to explain.
There are some things we need to take care of and it will be a lot easier if we know you’re not stuck in the middle.”
“But what if something happens to you? And I’m barely even talking to my mother right now. Who’s to say she’ll even want to go?”
“First of all, you can’t do shit for me if anything goes down anyway, but I’m good, Sophie. I can take care of myself.”
“And he got me. You know I ain't gon’ let anything happen to his crazy ass.” Los winked at me.
“Well, I’m all for a girls’ getaway. I think after everything that’s been going on, we need it. And since Alana’s going, I think I’ll invite your mother,” Maddie said, causing all of us to look at Carlos.
“Oh, hell no. fuck that, and let’s go. I have something I need to take care of anyway,” Los said, like it wasn’t up for debate.
“Something like what?” Maddie asked with raised brows.
“Business is what, now let’s go so I can get it taken care of, then fuck this instigating out of you. Apparently, you need a reality check.”
“Really?” Maddie yelled as her face blushed.
Trooper chuckled and stood.
“Hell yeah, really. Good dick will cure anything. Even that bullshit you be on, so let’s go.” He looked at Trooper first. “I’m out. I’ll hit you later and we can figure out these plans.”
He then walked over to me and kissed me on the cheek. “Later, Sophie, but don’t worry about this muthafucker. I got him. I promise you that.”
“You ain't got shit, I got my damn self,” Trooper said and shot Carlos a look before he smiled.
“What the fuck ever. Just know I got him. Let’s go, Madeline. Troop, let me holla at you real quick,” Carlos said before he left the room.
Trooper followed, and when Maddie and I were alone, she looked at me with concern.
“I know you’re already freaking out and have a million and one things floating through your head, but don’t, okay? We’re going to Jamaica, they’re going to do whatever they have to do, and when we get back, things will be good.’
“How can you say that? And why aren’t you worried? They’re sending us out of the country, which means things are bad.”
“I’m worried, Sophie. Trust me, I am, but I also trust my man and you should trust yours.
If they say we need to spend a week in Jamaica, we need to do it.
Besides, it will be fun. We’ve never done that before since all you ever did was work.
Sun, sand, and mixed drinks… well, virgin for you, but still.
” She smirked and leaned down to hug me.
“I guess.”
“It will be fun. I promise, but let me go. I have a feeling I’m in for a long night. Is it wrong that I’m excited?”
I couldn’t help but laugh. “No, you little nympho. What has he done to you.”
“Some really, really dirty things, but I love it.”
Maddie blew me a kiss and left the room.
Not long after, Trooper walked back into the bedroom looking stressed. The weight of the world was on his shoulders and I hated that.
“Will you at least tell me why you are asking me to leave?”
“Baby, I’m not asking you. I’m telling you, so we’re not about to debate.”
“What makes you think you even have the right to tell me what I’m going to do, Trooper?”
“That baby you’re carrying does. As long as I have a say, I will never allow either of you to be in a position where you are at risk of being hurt.
And before you get off on some bullshit, let me be clear.
I’m not one of those muthafuckers who likes to flex.
My dick don’t get hard by flexing my muscles to prove I’m a man.
That shit ain't in question and never will be. I don’t need to prove shit you already know.
It’s not about that, so don’t even let that thought creep into your head.
I have things I need to handle that will require me to be in total control.
I can’t do that if I'm constantly worried about you and my baby. I need to know without a shadow of a doubt that you’re good, so I can do what I need to do.
That means getting you as far away from this bullshit as possible.
It’s not about anything other than that. ”
Trooper’s eyes never left mine and he didn’t waver in the least. I couldn't even argue. I loved that he wanted me to be safe. I moved toward him leaning against the dresser and slipped my hands around his waist.
I looked up at him. “Fine. I’ll do whatever you want on one condition.”
“What’s that?”
“Promise me you will be safe. We need you, and that’s not up for debate.” I smiled and he laughed.
“I’ll do what I can.” He leaned down to kiss me.
I decided to take it a step further, reaching for his belt, about to unbuckle it when he stopped me.
“Chill, man. Your horny ass. Can I eat first?”
“Yes, you can,” I said with a smug grin, slipping my hands into my leggings and stepping out of them.
“That ain't what I meant, Sophie, but I got you.” Trooper placed his hand on my waist and backed me up to the bed.
Before I could object, his head was between my legs draped over his shoulders. I had no objections whatsoever, so I closed my eyes and let him do what he did best.
