Chapter 13 #3

“Luke, these are absolutely beautiful. Thank you, but sir, your ass isn’t slick. You made sure they called me that shit, didn’t you?”

“You’re welcome, Hershey, and of course. I see you still fucking up with that detail of your life, Mrs. Deacon.”

“And the candy and bear?”

“Because I was missing you just as much as you’re missing me. It’s been a long week since you left me.”

“Then hurry up and come home,” I whined, poking my lip as I pouted. I quickly caught myself, because this wasn’t me. I felt like I was back to being that nineteen-year-old girl, crying on the phone. I didn’t want to be her anymore.

I’m not her.

“One more week, Holls, then I’m coming straight home to you. Until then, make our house a home so you can host that party or whatever. You can even throw in some more bikinis or lingerie, shit, go crazy.”

I laughed, shaking my head as I grabbed the box of chocolates and the half full pitcher of margarita I made, heading back outside to finish my lazy morning.

“Anyways, to change this subject, tell me something I don’t know about you,” I said, which had Luke chuckling.

“Hershey, you know everything.”

“No, I don’t. What did you do for your birthday last year?

” Luke was a February baby, so I knew it wasn’t spent on the field nor at practice.

Whenever Callie tried to tell me before, I would ignore her.

That was one day of the year, along with our anniversary, that I went silent to the world, turning my phones off.

“Oh, um… last year, I let Shep and Derek convince me to go fishing. It was different, quiet as hell.” He laughed while I pictured him fishing.

“Fishing?”

He chuckled. “Yeah, I know. We tried golf one year but that shit was a lot on my shoulders, too much like the game, so we gave that up quick as fuck. You know me, my birthdays were only special because of how you made them. Now, I don’t do too much. I’m satisfied with a good ass meal and a drink.”

“Yeah. I wish I could, but as you know, I do share a day with a pushy ass twin who makes me throw these lavish parties.” I playfully rolled my eyes.

“Now I know better than that, baby. I know how you get down. I saw pictures over the years. I had to be sure you were happy on your day, even without me.”

I shrugged. “I think I got good at pretending as if I were doing just fine. Nothing felt the same. A few years ago, I started sneaking away to a baseball game. It got easier once you got traded to the Badgers because those flight tickets? Whew, baby, they were doing my pockets in.” I laughed lowly, avoiding the camera as I picked up a piece of chocolate, stuffing it in my mouth.

That was my secret. I didn’t think anyone knew. It started while Luke played for a team in New York, when I could barely afford the plane ticket but made it happen somehow just to be close to him, even in the stands.

“I see stalking and creeping comes natural to you, huh, Hershey?” he said with a sly smirk, helping bring the mood back up.

“No, because I wasn’t creeping nor stalking. Your games were public. I just so happened to attend them without anyone knowing.”

“Don’t worry, love, your secret of stalking is safe with me.”

I flipped him off.

“It betta be.”

We spent the rest of the time talking about random things we had done over the years until he had to head to the field with me hanging up, missing him even more.

“It’s just one more week. You act like this man is gone to war, calm the hell down,” I told myself as I picked up another piece of chocolate.

“Luke, you’re not even listening to me. I done asked you a question and you just humming in my damn ear.

If you’re falling asleep, just go to bed,” I groaned as I rolled my eyes.

We had been on the phone for the last hour or so after his game in St. Louis.

And every other night since I left him, which was two weeks ago.

I wanted to be the first to say that fucking hadn’t changed anything between us, but I would be lying.

Then I wanted to blame it on us becoming friends and co-existing together, but that wasn’t it either. And since nothing else sensible came to mind, I chose to ignore whatever these late-night calls and daily check-ins between us meant beyond our arrangement.

He cleared his throat. “I’m sorry baby. I promise I’m not sleep, I was reviewing some film from the game. Their pitcher is good. I’m talking potential to fuck up our winning streak good and I can’t have that, so I have to catch his pattern.”

And well, there was that. It was generic as hell, but him calling me baby did something to my gut, causing these annoying ass butterflies to swarm.

“Luke, if you need to focus, we can hang up. I don—"

“Naw, you cool, Hershey. Now tell me what you said one more time, please.”

I paused for a second, hating to even repeat it, but I did, dropping my tone a few octaves as if I wasn’t alone in his bed, soaking up his scent while toying with my pussy.

Yup, I had it bad and craved a fix of him.

“I said I’m bored and lonely in this house without you.

How many more games are left in this series? ”

He chuckled. “Baby, you ask me every day. I miss you too. We have two more games, then we hit the road right after. And you can call the girls over to keep you company while I’m gone.

Entertain like the stay-at-home wife I’m trying to make you.

” My eyes rolled and I couldn’t tell if it was more from his comment about trying to retire me or from moving my fingers against my slippery folds.

“Anyways, so two more games,” I repeated with a moan, rubbing my clit.

“Yo, was that a moan? What you over there doing, Hershey?”

“In your bed with nothing on, thinking about my friend. Is he thinking about me?” I asked through heavy breaths.

Luke laughed lowly and I closed my eyes, imagining his lazy gaze on me with his sly grin right after he licked his lips.

“Baby, between that head and the other, you are a constant thought. Now back to you naked in my bed, why wasn’t this a video call?”

I shrugged as if he could see me.

“Because this wasn’t that type of call at first. I wanted to see how the game went, and then well—"

“Well, you got naked and made your way downstairs to our bed.”

“Nope, I was already naked in your bed when I called. I just happened to spread my legs and somehow my hand slipped and landed on my clit. It’s her fault.

I was trying to behave.” I struggled to get the words out through my choppy breathing as I shut my eyes tightly, getting myself to the edge before I stopped.
