Chapter 13 #4

“Naw, ain’t no need to behave now. You might as well gon’ ahead and answer this video call so you can show me what else you’re doing in our bed.” I giggled as I readjusted in his sheets, ignoring his video request, getting comfortable since I knew this was where I would be sleeping.

“Nope, I’m going to bed since I’m now having the girls over tomorrow and you need to focus on that film and figuring out their pitcher’s patterns so y’all don’t fuck up that winning streak.

Like you said, you and him both will be home soon and maybe I’ll still be naked in your bed when you are,” I said, yawning.

“Husbands and wives don’t tease each other, baby. Be fair and let me see a chocolate pebble or something,” he groaned in my ear, damn near causing my clit to react. I clenched my thighs tighter as I responded, knowing this was for him to stay focused.

“Good night, Luke.”

Luke blew out a frustrated breath.

“Night, Hershey.”

There was a pause, with us just sitting on the phone, listening to each other breathing before I decided to hit the end button.

There would be no falling asleep on the phone just like there would be no I love yous when we ended calls. This wasn’t any of that, nor would I let it be, no matter how fucked up our boundaries had become in a short time.

The next day, I woke up and called the girls so we could have a presentation night.

Since I was hosting, I knew we would be in the theater room on the big screen, so I ran downstairs to double check the stock on snacks.

Between Luke and me, we pretty much kept it stocked but I had been down here a lot over the last two weeks.

I was already in motion to put in an order for some food when my phone alerted me that Luke had beat me to it, placing an order for my girls’ night.

Deke: Tacos and tequila are a custom for Tuesdays, right? Have fun with the girls, Hershey. I’ll be home soon, one more game.

Me: Thank you, Deke.

He sent confirmation that he’d ordered tacos from our spot and bottles from Spirits.

By the time the food came, the girls were pulling up too.

“I swear you called at the perfect time because I was close to being on your line about our meet up. We let you get settled in but heffa it was time to come up for air,” Johnni said as she walked in first, with Mickey behind her, each grabbing a bag from the delivery driver who I tipped and thanked.

“And you were hosting, so I’m glad you knew that part too,” Mickey said.

“Whatever. Luke got us tacos and tequila, so I hope that’s cool. If not, you heffas are on your own,” I said as we made our way to the kitchen.

“Ooh, and hubby is treating? What y’all got going on over here?” Johnni asked as she popped her hip out and hung her head to the side, wearing a sly grin.

My mouth curved up, not ready to tell them anything yet.

“Ugh, please don’t refer to him as that.

It’s bad enough I call him friend and he corrects me by saying yes, wife.

And nothing. He knew y’all were coming over and offered to sponsor the food.

” I shrugged it off as if it weren’t a big deal, even though on the inside I loved the gesture of him remembering I’d told him they would be coming over.

“Uh hun, whatever, heffa. You got that dick glow but I’ma let you keep your secrets because that’s what married people do,” Mickey said, which had me cracking up as I opened the bottle of tequila, pouring three shots while she dried her hands with paper towels.

“Anyways, before the night starts, here’s to us all being married at the same time for the one time.” I passed their glasses, holding mine in the air.

“Oh my gosh, we are! All you need is a baby now,” Mickey said, causing Johnni and me both to react by kissing our teeth and huffing.

“Girl, remember this shit is temporary for this heffa. Your mind’s always on babies,” Johnni exclaimed, rolling her eyes, causing me to laugh as we tossed our shots back.

“Ugh, y’all ruin my dreams all the time. And I can’t help it. The baby fever has been strong. Minnie is growing up too fast, y’all. I don’t think I’m ready.” She fake sniffled while I poured another round as Johnni pulled out the tacos.

“Chile, anyways. No baby talk tonight. We’re planning our next adventure, no wait, kid-free adventure, and I want to catch y’all up on Beauty Girls.”

“Ooh, and I want to catch y’all up on the beard kit. I feel like it’s finally ready for mass production. I know you tested it on Bone, but I’ma need you to do it again on Deacon since I can’t get Bone’s results.” I had forgotten all about that.

“Oh shit yeah, did you bring some? Ooh, and some tinctures. And Callie said to bring the order of Remy oil to the shop soon, please.”

“Yes, I brought it. I’m not playing, Hollis, results please. I’m waiting for you to hit go.”

“I got you. Now grab the goods, so we can head down and get started,” I said, grabbing the bottle, paper plates, and napkins while they grabbed tacos and bags of chips and sauces.

Luke was right, it felt good to have the girls over.

My life felt all about him lately. I had quickly forgotten that I had a life outside of my temporary fake marriage.
