Chapter 13

CHAPTER 13

SYANNE

B y the time Gramma and GeeBee arrive, the kids are in bed, and the adults enjoy a late Christmas Eve dinner. Harmony decides to detail the whole story about Reid and I. And after all the emotion of the day, I’m too tired to object.

When she reaches the end, Reid takes my hand and says, “All I know is I’m the luckiest man in the world,” right before the sweetest kiss ever. My face is flushed, but I’m floating in bliss.

Gramma coughs. “I told you a long time ago you needed a boyfriend.”

“The right boyfriend,” GeeBee adds. “Grant didn’t count.”

“You weren’t wrong about that.” I let a little sarcasm drip in my tone. “But I still beat the two of you at your own game.”

“Did you?” GeeBee arches a white eyebrow.

“Yes, I did.” I lift my hand, joined with Reid’s. “I managed to find a boyfriend without a smidgeon of meddling from the Underground Granny Matchmakers. ”

Reid squeezes my fingers. “But we need to thank Matt for his help, including making these reservations in the first place. Otherwise, that first kiss would’ve been our last.”

Matt frowns. “Me? I didn’t make the reservations.”

“Then who did?” I ask, looking from one clueless sister to the next.

“Eh-hem.” Nanna clears her throat. “That would be us.” She gestures toward GeeBee and Gramma—who sport identical smug expressions. “Set this up six months ago, didn’t we girls? We knew you two would be perfect together.”

As the table erupts in laughter, I jump to my feet, furious and ready to set them straight. But Reid stands beside me and beats me to the punch.

“Nanna, Gramma, GeeBee…” he says, as the table falls silent. “This is the best Christmas gift ever!”

Then he kisses me. And I realize… he’s absolutely right!
