Chapter 16 #5

Because it was about what he felt.

And what he felt was something that didn’t make sense. Didn’t have to.

He lowered his head, tasted her. She was so sweet. So perfect, he could bury his face between her legs forever, gorge himself on that sweet cream there between her thighs.

So, he did.

He licked her, sucked her, ate her until she was crying out his name. Until she was arching her hips against his mouth, giving him more without him even having to demand it, because her body was so trained to respond to his.

His good girl.

Who was everything he needed and gave him everything he wanted. So perfect.

So damned perfect. She bucked against his face, crying out, and he pushed two fingers inside of her just to feel her cum hard around them. His body shattered, and he kept on licking her.

“Cody,” she gasped. “I can’t… I can’t.”

“You will,” he growled against that slick flesh. “You’re going to come again for me.”

She whimpered, and he pinned her down harder to the bed, teasing her with his fingers, his tongue.

Until he felt her shatter again, and he licked every last drop of pleasure from her, ran out every last cry of need.

“Don’t tell me you can’t. I’m going to show you how wrong you are every time.” He gripped her thighs and pulled her down toward the edge of the bed. “And that is a threat,” he growled, looking her in the eyes.

She nodded, and he leaned in and kissed her so that she could taste her own desire on his mouth.

He reached down for his wallet, took out the condom, and sheathed himself quickly, and brought her all the way to the edge of the mattress, lifting her up so that he could thrust deep inside of her as he stood there.

He claimed her, over and over again, until he couldn’t breathe.

Until he couldn’t think. Until there was nothing but this.

The two of them, meeting over and over again.

Until she threw her hands back on the bed and arched up again, crying out his name.

Until he lost his self-control and came hard on a growl.

Then he collapsed onto the bed beside her. Every time was different. Every time was good. Every time was perfect.

Just like she was.

“Damn,” he said. Because he didn’t have any other words. There was nothing left to say.

He got up a moment later, headed into the bathroom to discard the condom.

“Unfortunately,” he said. “That’s all the protection that I brought with me.”

She got a funny, wrinkled look on her face. Then she looked away and burrowed beneath the covers.

“For the record,” she said. “I’m on birth control. And I would let you… It’s just… You know, I guess I’ve been with whoever my husband has been with, and I don’t know who that is. I don’t know if he used protection. I don’t know…” A tear slid down her cheek, and he climbed into bed next to her.

He gathered her into his arms. “Hey,” he said. “It’s okay.”

She shook her head, burying her face in his chest. “It’s not okay.

It’s not okay because everything that I believed about my life is just a lie.

And all of this stuff, he dragged me into it.

Having to face that, the fact that I can’t be with you the way that I want to because I can’t trust him, because now I can’t trust my own body… That kills me.”

“I can take you to get a test.”

“I’ve never had to do that. I’ve only been with one person. And I don’t mean to say that… I’m not trying to be judgmental.”

“It’s fine. When you choose to whore around like I do, it’s just part of basic health. There’s no shame in it. It’s taking care of yourself. But I understand how it feels different when somebody made that decision for you.”

She chewed her lower lip. “Even if he told me that he was using condoms, I don’t think I would trust him. I don’t think I could.”

“There’s a decent doctor’s clinic in town. You can get all your testing done there.”

“How did I know that you’re responsible with all of that?” She was still wiping at her tears.

“Because you know how it is to be like me. You have to be responsible. I appreciate you being honest with me about that.”

“Well, I’m pissed off. Because…”

“I get it. You can make an appointment and get all your testing done, and then we can discuss it.”

“Okay.”

He never had unprotected sex. Because everything he did was one-night-stand-oriented, so he never went without a condom.

But if the two of them were going to do this for a while, then he would love to be in her without a barrier.

Just the idea of it made him hard. Made him a little bit mad that they couldn’t just take the risk too.

But he understood exactly where she was coming from. She had been lied to, and if there was one lie, there might be more.

“I think… untangling what hurts the most about all this is so hard. And I really shouldn’t be talking about him while I’m in bed with you.”

“Why not? We met at this point in your life, Marlowe, there’s no denying that. There’s no erasing this. So, I’m part of it. Believe me, I’m not worried about being compared to him.”

She laughed, her face still buried in his chest. “Well, you don’t have to worry about it. Because you’re definitely the best I’ve ever had.”

“Oh, I know,” he said, grabbing her by the shoulders and flattening her into the mattress, looming over her. “Because you wouldn’t have risked this much for sex that was only the average. And I know I’m not the only one who feels this.”

“No,” she said. “You’re not.”

“Well, that’s damn good. Do we need a plan?”

“We need condoms.”

“I mean, for how we’re going to do this.”

“I guess we just do it until we don’t.”

“Seems reasonable.”

“Here works, as long as we’re careful. When we’re sneaking around while there are guests, it might be a little bit more challenging.”

“Well, you don’t have to be here all the time. We can definitely use my place too.”

Of course, that would mean rooting out his siblings sometimes, but that was possible.

They weren’t around all the time. And hell, there was nothing wrong with spending a little bit of time with everybody.

That intense feeling inside of him that had bloomed while they were kissing tonight grew again.

He would like to have her at more family dinners. He liked her sitting next to him.

Well. Maybe just because she was a really good manager. Because she was part of the team. That was it. He had thought of that before. That it felt like she ought to be there when they were doing their toast, because she was an integral part of this resort team. Was helping make it what it was.

So are Laney and Cara, but you don’t feel like you have to have them at things.

He ignored that.

“I like that.”

“Me too. And I’m glad we got that out of the way. Because we’re about to be really busy.”

“True,” she said. “It’s all just about to get started.”
