The more I think about it, the more I know I’m making the right decision.
Tomorrow’s gonna be too late. We’re low enough on supplies that it doesn’t make sense to drag Riley on a four, maybe five-day hike, when I can complete it myself in much less time and send for help to pick them up by boat once I’m at the resort.
Scarlett’s plan to stick together is the right move ethically, but it’s not gonna work.
Kian and Trick hated the thought of making a trip through the jungle in the first place.
Neither of them are used to anything more physically demanding than an airconditioned gym workout, or a two-hour long concert under stage lighting.
Both of those things are hard if you’re not physically fit.
They are, but they don’t have much endurance.
Riley knows what it’s like to train like an athlete.
With alcohol involved, he’s a liability.
Without it, he’s an asset.
Injured? I don’t know.
It’s probably unfair to him to take this chance to rush off on my own.
But he was willing to stay behind to let the rest of us continue, and that’s how I know he’ll understand what I’m doing.
I don’t think Trick and Kian will mind when they find my note, either.
They’ve just claimed the woman they’re calling their true mate. The last thing they want is to spend days on end walking through unfamiliar terrain.
They’ll be pleased they get to spend more time with their mate.
Even if they’re mad at me, they’ll get over it.
Scarlett’s the one real wild card here.
I don’t know enough about her to know how she’ll react to finding out I’ve left them behind.
She’ll probably be pissed off, because it’s the opposite of her plan.
I hate that I got so mad at her for being here that she might never perfume again.
She reacted like nothing happened afterwards.
And after what happened with Riley on the beach this morning, I can see I was wrong about her.
She rushed around and did everything she could to help him, even though he’s been dismissive at best since she met him. That didn’t matter. She didn’t want to see him hurt.
She’s not the monster I thought she was when I was mean to her.
I’ll apologize for that once we’re all safe at Golden Sands.
Until then, I have one job and I’m on my way to get it done.
