Chapter One-Hundred-Four

Xane

The jungle’s terrain is pretty flat, with some minor dips and slopes.

The main obstacles are caused by the trees and plant-life.

Everything’s overgrown. It only makes sense.

This place isn’t part of the resort. It’s undeveloped.

So, the grass is long, and every few yards, there are branches and bushes blocking my path.

It’s a bigger pain in the ass than I expected, but I can handle it.

I’ve got food and water and a tent, and I’m glad I picked up the machete before I headed out. It’s been perfect for clearing the overgrown areas I’ve passed through.

I’m not gonna get there as fast as I thought.

Three days might be a stretch, even if I’m determined. It’s probably gonna be closer to four.

Sighing, I plow forward with the machete.

I have Kian to thank for bringing this thing.

If there’s one good thing I can take out of this whole experience, it’s the knowledge that Kian is an expert organiser. I’m not sure how I can make use of that, but it’s good to know.

Truth is, he’s probably gonna split from the pack once we get home.

Kinda hard to stick together when he and Trick are mated now.

I don’t know where that leaves Riley and I.

Probably not back on tour without them.

I stop and stand still while I catch my breath.

Life as I know it is basically over.

I expect to feel something, but there’s nothing there.

Maybe it’s burn out. Maybe I’ve been pushing myself too hard for too long.

I don’t know how to slow down now, so I keep going.

That’s been the cycle I’ve been trapped inside.

Even now, I can’t stop.

Slowing down is the best I can manage.

I hack through more of the tree branches that are blocking the way forward.

There are so fucking many of them here. I’ve got to keep cutting to get past.

I need to think about now, not later.

Getting to the resort for help is the only thing that matters.

Once we’re all safe, we can deal with everything else.

Hopefully by then, I’ll be capable of feeling something.

Hopefully by then, I’ll have the right words to say.
