Chapter One-Hundred-Twenty-Nine

Kian

Sleeping next to Trick on an inflatable mattress is the least fun a guy could have while stranded on a desert island. My so-called best-friend spent half the night snoring directly into my ear, and the other half invading my space with his stupidly long limbs.

Being kneed in the stomach in the middle of the night is an experience, sure, but it’s not a pleasant one.

So, getting up early was entirely necessary for my own peace and sanity.

Finding the cabin bright, I stepped out into the forest to find out the sun was back, shining through the trees. The clear blue, cloudless sky is a good sign, too.

Scarlett and Riley aren’t back yet, so I organize the breakfast supplies out onto the tables.

Chips and trail mix. Not the most appetising of meals, I guess, but it’ll keep us going.

I bring out my secret candy stash and pop a couple of jelly beans in my mouth.

I’m good to share, but I know the guys don’t care that much for sweet stuff.

I’m putting bottles of water on the tables when I hear voices outside.

It’s easy to recognize Scarlett’s warm laugh.

Smiling, I head to the door.

“You’re back!”

Scarlett surprises me by walking into the cabin, lower half naked.

Her legs have a glossy sheen and some white streaks on them.

Riley definitely claimed her.

I gasp out a breath as I realize I can smell her perfume.

“I got it back,” she says, clearly happy. “But I’ve gotta use the bathroom, so give me a sec.”

She moves past me to the bathroom, and Riley comes into the cabin with his tank top in his hand. He has a fresh mating mark on his throat, and he looks happier than I’ve ever seen him.

“She’s amazing,” he tells me, like I don’t already know.

“This from the guy who kept telling me to just let Trick have her.” I shake my head.

He laughs. “That was when I was wasted. I barely let myself look at her.”

“A simple you were right all along would suffice.”

He puts his hand on my shoulder, looks me in the eye, and says, “You were right all along.”

Then he sighs and pats that shoulder. “But you’re still a pain in my ass. This is breakfast?”

He doesn’t look the slightest bit impressed.

“Well, it’s not like there’s a restaurant around the corner.”

“That’s the only crap thing about this place.”

He’s definitely changed his tune, but I’m not gonna be a dickhead about it.

“It’s pretty nice,” I agree. “If only the resort was easier to get to it would be perfect.”

He sits down and I decide to do the same.

Scarlett joins us when she’s done with the bathroom.

She’s wearing the shorts now and her legs are dry.

She slips into the chair opposite mine.

“Hey,” I greet her.

“Hey,” she echoes back, smiling.

The bedroom door opens, and a loud yawn precedes Xane’s entrance into the room.

He leans against the wall, wearing nothing but his boxers, while Trick slips into the bathroom behind him.

“You’re awake, and it’s not even noon,” I declare dramatically.

He snorts. “It’s too warm to sleep that late.”

“It’s almost ten,” Riley updates us, slipping his phone back into his pocket afterwards.

“Shit,” Scarlett swears. “Did I leave Sapphire’s phone on the beach?”

“No,” Riley tells her. “I’ve got it in my pocket.”

He takes it out and passes it to her.

She smiles. “Thanks.”

Riley looks up at Xane. “Did you work out if the jet has enough fuel to fly?”

Xane nods slowly. “I think I can make the plan work. I just need to check what the ground is like outside. As long as it’s not like it was last night, we should be good to go. As soon as I’m more awake.”

“Oh, thank God!” I tell him. “This place is great and all, but I seriously should have put more thought into our food supplies.”

Riley laughs. “I wish you had.”

Trick comes out of the bathroom.

“Did I hear celebrating?” he asks.

“Xane said the plan should work. It just depends on the ground outside,” I relay.

“It’s not dry,” Scarlett says. “But it’s not swampy like it was.”

“Then we should be all set,” Xane admits. “I’m gonna use the bathroom, then I’ll go out and check.”

“Great,” Trick says, smiling. “Anything that doesn’t require a three-day hike through the jungle is a good plan if you ask me.”

Xane disappears into the bathroom.

Trick sits down. “Is this breakfast?”

“Yeah,” I tell him.

He nods and opens the bottle of water.

We all start to eat and drink, and the mood in the cabin is as good as it gets.

Being stranded out here clearly wasn’t so bad, even if I do say so myself, but now that we’re mated to the most amazing woman on the planet, it’s past time for us to get to a place where we can be comfortable while we get to know our woman better and start planning for the future we want to have together.

It wouldn’t bother me if we were stuck here a little longer, but I want Scarlett to have everything she could possibly want or need. Golden Palms will be the perfect place to relax with her before we get back to reality.
