Chapter One-Hundred-Thirty

Scarlett

It’s such a relaxed atmosphere in the jet while we eat our snack-food breakfast. Everyone’s feeling pretty good about Xane’s plan, and it feels like we’re gonna be out of here soon.

I have to admit, I’m a little worried that the plan is gonna include crash landing into the ocean once Xane has used the radio to contact the resort, but I don’t know if I’m worrying over nothing since no one else seems concerned about it.

Xane comes out of the bathroom and leans in to kiss me on the cheek.

I bite my lip as I watch him go to the backpacks and take out clothes.

He throws on a shirt and pants quickly before he heads outside to check what the ground is like.

“Does anyone else think this plan is kinda crazy?” I ask, eyes locking with Kian first, across the table from me.

He sighs. “Yeah. There’s gotta be a less risky way to alert the resort that we’re here.”

“Like what?” Riley asks. “Smoke signals?”

“I mean, I know how to start a fire,” Kian says, shrugging.

“That was a joke, Ki. They’re not likely to notice something that small. And a bigger fire would be too risky for us and the resort because it could spread quickly if it got out of control.”

“Isn’t there always a flare gun somewhere when people get stranded like this?” I ask.

“We don’t have one on board,” Riley answers.

“Why the hell not?” Kian asks, clearly incensed.

“It’s not a requirement. We decided it wasn’t necessary. We’re not typically flying out over jungles or whatever, Ki. We usually come to Golden Palms and go back to Cressidan City.”

“So, this was a discussion you guys had without me?” Kian asks.

“Without us,” Trick adds.

“We didn’t mean for it to be,” Riley says. “It came up years ago, when we were partying and you guys were doing something else.”

“Figures,” Kian grumbles.

We’re all quiet for a bit.

I guess no one has any ideas.

The plan makes me nervous, and I need something to distract me from that if it’s gonna be what happens. Xane knows what he’s doing. I trust that he wouldn’t say yes to this if it wasn’t gonna work. So, I just need to avoid making a big deal out of it.

Sighing, I drink my water and eat my breakfast.
