Chapter 20

CHAPTER TWENTY

RILEY

The salty sea breeze caresses my skin as Nate and I make our way onto the secluded beach, the chaos of the gala melting away with each step. The sun hangs low on the horizon, painting the sky with ever deepening hues. It's a masterpiece, a canvas of tranquility after the shitstorm we just weathered.

I take a deep breath, letting the ocean air fill my lungs, the tension in my body unraveling like a knot finally coming loose. Beside me, Nate looks just as relieved, his shoulders relaxing, his eyes softening as he takes in the peaceful surroundings.

"I needed this," I murmur, my hand finding his. "Just you, me, and this perfect beach."

Nate chuckles, pulling me closer, his arm wrapping around my waist. "It's like an oasis, isn't it? A little slice of heaven after the hell we've been through."

We walk along the shore, the sand cool and soft beneath our feet. The salty breeze whips through my hair, and I can't help but feel a sense of peace wash over me. All the sleepless nights and constant fear simply melt away in the moment.

I glance over at Nate, his profile illuminated by the soft glow of the setting sun. God, he’s beautiful. And not just in the physical sense, although that's certainly part of it. It's the way he carries himself, the way he's always been there for me, even when things got really tough.

"Hey," I say softly, nudging him with my elbow. "Remember that first night we stayed up till dawn, going through those encrypted files? I thought my eyes were going to fall out of my damn head."

Nate chuckles, the sound deep and warm. "Yeah, and you kept chugging coffee like it was going out of style. I thought you were going to vibrate out of your skin."

I laugh, the memory bringing a smile to my face. "But we found it, didn't we? That tiny detail that started the web untangling."

He nods, his expression turning serious. "We did. And I couldn't have done it without you, Riley. You never gave up, even when it seemed like the whole world was against us."

I feel my throat tighten with emotion, my eyes stinging with unshed tears. "I couldn't have done it without you either, Nate. You believed in me, in us, even when I doubted myself."

He stops walking, turning to face me. His hands come up to cup my face, his thumbs brushing over my cheekbones. "I'll always believe in you, Riley. You're the strongest, most incredible woman I've ever met."

He leans in, his lips capturing mine in a tender kiss. And in this moment, with the sound of the waves crashing against the shore and the warmth of Nate's embrace surrounding me, I know that every struggle, every sacrifice, was all worth it. Because it led us here, to this perfect moment, where nothing else matters but the love we share.

As the sun dips below the horizon, Nate takes my hand, his eyes twinkling with mischief. "What do you say we head home, Riles? I've got a surprise waiting for you."

My heart skips a beat at the word 'home.’ It's been a week since I moved into Nate's penthouse, and I'm still getting used to the idea that it's our place now. The thought sends a thrill through me, a mix of excitement and contentment that I never want to let go.

"Lead the way, Maverick," I say with a grin, squeezing his hand.

The drive back to the city is filled with comfortable silence and stolen glances, the anticipation building with every mile. As we step into the elevator of our building, Nate pulls me close, his lips brushing against my ear.

"Close your eyes," he whispers, his breath hot against my skin.

I comply, my other senses heightening as I feel the elevator ascend. When the doors open, Nate guides me forward, his hands steady on my waist. The familiar scent of our home envelops me, but there's something else – a hint of vanilla and roses in the air.

"Okay," Nate says, his voice low and husky. "Open them."

I open my eyes, and my breath catches in my throat. The penthouse is bathed in a soft, golden glow, dozens of candles flickering throughout the room. Rose petals are scattered across the floor, leading to a table set for two by the floor-to-ceiling windows. The cityscape beyond is a glittering tapestry of lights, but it pales in comparison to the man standing before me.

Nate's eyes are dark with desire, his smile soft and intimate. He reaches for a bottle of champagne, the pop of the cork breaking the silence.

"To us," he says, his voice a low rumble that sends a shiver down my spine. He hands me a glass of champagne, the bubbles dancing in the light.

I turn to face him fully, our eyes locking in a silent exchange that speaks volumes. "To us," I echo, the words barely a whisper. We clink our glasses together, the crystal ringing out in the quiet room.

The first sip of champagne is a burst of effervescence on my tongue, a taste of victory and celebration. I set my glass down on a nearby table, my gaze never leaving Nate's. The intensity in his eyes is intoxicating, a magnetic pull that I can't resist.

I step closer, our bodies mere inches apart. I can feel the heat radiating off of him, a palpable force that ignites a fire within me. I reach up, my fingers threading through the soft, dark strands of his hair. His breath hitches in his throat, a small, telling sound that sends a thrill through me.

Our lips meet in a searing kiss, a claim and a promise all in one. His hands roam over my body, a reverent exploration that stokes the flames of my desire. I can feel the hard planes of his chest beneath my palms, the rapid beat of his heart a testament to his own arousal.

We stumble towards the bedroom, a tangle of limbs and laughter, our discarded clothes leaving a trail behind us. The cool sheets beneath us are a stark contrast to the heat of our bodies, a welcome relief from the inferno of our passion.

His lips trail a path down my neck, his teeth grazing the sensitive skin in a way that makes me gasp. His hands cup my breasts, his thumbs brushing over my nipples in a teasing caress. I can feel the wetness pooling between my thighs, a slick heat that begs for his touch.

He doesn't disappoint. His fingers find my clit, a skilled, relentless pressure that has me writhing beneath him. I can feel the building tension, the coiling of a spring that's about to snap.

"Nate," I moan, his name a plea and a prayer. He answers with a wicked grin, his fingers plunging into my pussy in a swift, merciless thrust.

I come undone beneath him, my orgasm a tidal wave that sweeps me away. I can feel him hard and thick against my thigh, a tantalizing promise of what's to come.

When he finally enters me, it's with a slow and deliberate thrust that has me gasping. He fills me completely, stretching me in the most delicious way. I can feel every inch of him as he moves inside of me, a joining of souls that's as profound as it is primal and it's almost too much. But I don't want him to stop. I want more.

Nate's thrusts soon become possessive, and I can't help but surrender to him. He owns my body in this moment, and I'm more than willing to let him. The sensation of him claiming me is an aphrodisiac, and I can feel my orgasm building. I'm so close, teetering on the edge, and I know that Nate is too.

Our bodies move together in a sensual dance, each thrust and moan bringing us closer to the precipice. And when we finally tumble over the edge together, it's a moment of pure ecstasy. I can feel the warmth of Nate's release as he fills me, and it only intensifies my own pleasure. We cling to each other as we ride out the waves of our orgasms, our bodies and souls connected in a way that I've never experienced before. It's a moment that I'll never forget, one that I'll replay in my mind over and over again.

We lie there, our bodies entwined, our hearts beating as one. This is more than just a celebration of our victory. It's a celebration of us, of the love that's carried us through the darkest of times. And as I drift off to sleep in his arms, I know that this is just the beginning of our journey together.

I lie tangled in the sheets with Nate, our bodies still intertwined, basking in the afterglow of our lovemaking. The golden rays of the setting sun filter through the windows, casting a warm glow over our bare skin. I rest my head on his chest, listening to the steady thump of his heartbeat, a soothing rhythm that anchors me to this perfect moment.

"You know what I want, Riley?" Nate murmurs, his fingers tracing lazy patterns along my spine, igniting sparks of pleasure with every touch.

"Hmm?" I hum contentedly, my eyes fluttering closed as I melt into his embrace.

"I want a future with you," he says softly, his voice filled with a raw honesty that makes my heart skip a beat. "I want to wake up every morning with you in my arms, knowing that we can overcome anything this life throws our way.”

I prop myself up on my elbow, gazing down at him with eyes that shimmer with unshed tears. "I want that too, Nate," I whisper, my voice thick with emotion. "I want to build a life with you, to keep fighting for what's right, to make a difference in this world."

He reaches up, his thumbs brushing away the tears that have begun to fall. "I promise to always be by your side, Riley," he says fiercely, his eyes burning with an intensity that takes my breath away. "To love you, to support you, to be your rock, no matter what."

I lean down, capturing his lips in a searing kiss, pouring all of my love, my devotion, my unwavering commitment into that one perfect moment. "I promise to always be your partner, your equal, your soulmate," I breathe against his lips, my heart swelling with a joy so profound it threatens to consume me.
