20. Chapter 14
Zach
Having a mate who knows nothing about who or what you are, is one of the hardest things to deal with.
Do we just come out and tell her, ‘Hey, so you know, we're shifters’ or ‘Oh yeah, kinda like the movies, but some things are slightly different.’ I don't really think Kay would go for that. We have all wondered who her mother is, because no one has ever seen her, and for Kay’s father to also shift, but she has no knowledge of it.
Tommy is taking her to her father’s house to gather whatever belongings she needs to gather.
While he does that, Mathew, Andrew, and I have to go check out one of the shipments to see if everything is going well.
The last thing I want is some type of turf war, especially after finding our pack mate.
That's not going to happen, because I won't let it.
Holstering my Smith and Wesson, I pull my leather jacket on, before heading out to meet up with Mathew and Andrew.
Regardless of our wolf abilities, the more weapons the better.
Especially going out on jobs. Heading to the garage, my bike sits in the back, untouched, all black and sleek. I just love my baby .
We head out, making our way to warehouse 69, that sits on the Eastside, by the water.
As we turn off our bikes, gravel crunches underneath our weight.
We have a few guys on look out at all times.
Walking inside the building, we head straight to the back office.
“Tell Don to get his ass down here now! We need to go over a few things.” I bark out orders to one of the guards.
When Don comes strolling in, taking his sweet ass time, I lose it because I am not in the mood.
I really need to get back home, my time is more limited now with Kaylynn around.
“I heard your girl is a human. Are you really going to let a human join the ranks, after all the hard work we’ve put into this?
” Don questions me. “ We put the hard work in, Don. You work for us . Are you forgetting who your bosses are? Do we need to show you again?” The smell of sour sweat fills my air ways.
It smells disgusting, and I know he's up to something.
Andrew blocks the door, while Mathew takes rank behind me.
“What's going on here Don? Talk, or we will make you talk.” “Some of the guys and I have been talking and we don't want a human. She’s a liability Zach, and you know it man.
She's going to bring problems that we don't need.” Anger immediately runs through my veins.
My fangs extend, and I tear through Don's jugular, making blood spray out messing up my office.
Great, I'll have to call Wanda for a clean-up.
“Mathew, let's send the guys a little warning.
I'm not going to risk Kay's safety.” Pulling out a tissue from my pocket, I wipe the corners of my lips.
Hopefully the warning holds, or we are going to have way more to deal with.
Everything else seems to be running smoothly.
No other shipments are coming in with any problems. Fuck, this is going to be a long night, because something is definitely going on with at least this one, and we will need to get to the bottom of it.
Deciding that we will figure it out a little later, we head out.
“Let's go get a drink.” I yell to the boys over the sounds of our bikes.
Kaylynn
We pull up to the once familiar house, that used to be my home, and my safe haven.
That last thought makes me laugh. Yeah, a ‘safe haven’.
Then I feel panic filling my chest. I can do this; I just need to grab my things and leave.
Tommy swings off his bike, and takes off my helmet, before he helps me off his bike.
“Come here my sweet baby Kay, let's go.” He says, before grabbing my hand, pulling me towards my old home.
Walking into the house, the smell of rancid, sour milk hits my nostrils.
Gross. Luckily no one is home, which means he's probably hitting the casinos or something.
Tommy steps to the side letting me run upstairs to my old room.
I go into the closet pulling out my backpack.
I have a pair of shoes, a few shirts and some pants, but what I really wanted the most was my black bag.
I'm so happy I had put it away before I passed out.
Taking the bag, I put it in the very bottom of the backpack.
I'll have to find a place to hide this once we're back at the house.
On the bed sits a stuffed animal that I have had since I was born.
It's a little stuffed kitty, and I named her Tinker.
I decide Tinker has to come with me, so I slip her into the bag.
Running back to the stairs I slip halfway down, and go crashing all the way down the rest of the stairs.
I try to hold in my tears from how bad it hurt, on top of the embarrassment.
“Really, I leave you alone for 5 minutes, and you’ve already hurt yourself?
I don't understand how your kind even walks like that.” I am caught off guard by his comment.
Did I hear him right? “You're kind? What do you mean by that?” I ask.
“No time for that right now Kay, we need to go.” He says, not even acknowledging my question.
Letting it go for now, I toss the black JanSport backpack over my shoulders. “Fine, whatever, let’s just get back home. I'm tired.”
