Chapter 24

That drive was painful. As soon as I park in front of the menswear shop, I hop out fast—stretching my legs and breathing in the outside air. Daniela’s sweet floral scent and cherry lip stuff have been torturing me for three hours, and I need to get away from it.

I don’t know what I expected, but being in close proximity with her was…confusing. While I was thoroughly enjoying spending some alone time with her, it left me more confused than ever. I cannot, for the life of me, figure this woman out. And I don’t think she wants me to.

How can one girl be so loudly present and yet so incredibly distant at the same time ?

It’s like trying to catch a rainbow. Just when you think you’ve reached it, it’s never there when you lift a hand to touch it.

“You coming in with me?” I ask as she rounds the front of the vehicle.

“Uh yeah. I need to stretch my legs. I’m sorry, do you need a break from me already?”

“No,” I say. Then I turn and walk toward the shop.

I hold the door open and wait for her, and we’re greeted immediately. After I inform the grey-haired man that I’m here to pick up a couple of suits, he leads us to some seats that are surrounded by mirrors in almost every direction and asks us to wait.

“I feel like I shouldn’t even be touching this seat,” Daniela whispers to me.

“What?”

“It’s so fancy in here,” she whispers again.

“Why are you talking so quiet, weirdo?” I ask, mirroring her tone.

“I don’t know. It just feels like I need to.”

I chuckle, and the man returns holding two suit-sized bags.

“Now, I’m sure you’ll want to try yours on, just to make sure everything is right?”

“Yes. Might as well.”

I take my bag from him and head straight for the nearest fitting room.
