Chapter 10

TEN

The chairs in the waiting room were possibly the most uncomfortable things Sam had ever sat on. However hard he tried, he couldn’t get comfortable. Of course, that might have been because he was still wearing a wetsuit…

The elderly couple across from him, who seemed to be avidly reading a gardening magazine, kept peeping over the top at this strange person sitting there with red-rimmed eyes.

Ruben came running through the doors. “Sam!” He threw himself into the chair next to him. “How is he?”

It had been nearly an hour since Sam had spoken to the doctor.

“They didn’t want to tell me much because I’m not family,” Sam said.

“Maybe they’ll speak to me,” Ruben said, looking around.

“Relax. I talked them round. I told them I was his husband.”

Ruben raised an eyebrow. “And?”

“They say they need to see how much blood he lost. They need to do a scan as well to make sure he hasn’t had any brain damage.”

“Brain damage?”

“It’s standard procedure.”

“And how are you?”

Sam ran his hands through his hair. He hadn’t even thought about himself. “I’m fine. I’m just worried about him.”

They sat for a second before Ruben did a double-take at Sam’s clothing. “You should go home. I’ll wait here until we know more. Poor Miguel is beside himself.”

“None of this is his fault. He did his best. We both did.”

Naturally, Miguel would bear the responsibility for this, which wasn’t fair. The blame lay with the idiot in the speedboat.

“I told him that. If I ever get my hands on the fool in that other boat…” Ruben said, as if reading Sam’s mind.

They would never find them. It had all happened so quickly the boat was gone in seconds. Sam only remembered the impact, the noise, and falling.

The doors opened and a stern woman in a crisp white uniform scanned the room. When she saw Sam, she marched over.

“Your husband has been scanned. There is no brain damage.”

Both Sam and Ruben exhaled.

“We will keep him here tonight. For safety’s sake. You should go now. We will call you if we need you.”

“Can I see him?” Sam asked hopefully.

“No, he is asleep. There’s nothing more you can do now.”

She left them standing there.

“Come on,” Ruben said. “I’ll give you a lift to town. You’re not dressed for the bus.”

Sam followed him out into the sunshine. Leaving Wolfgang behind felt harder than he expected. What had Wolfgang meant—we need to talk? Sam would have to wait for answers.

“Have you spoken to his real next-of-kin?” Sam asked.

“Yes. That’s all done.”

Ruben had come in the aquarium pickup. Sam sank into the seat, immediately exhausted.

On the drive, the tears came unexpectedly. Ruben noticed and took his hand.

“You’ve had a tough day, my friend. There is no shame in shock.”

Sam didn’t respond. He preferred to deal with it alone.

“How did his parents take it?” he asked instead, removing his hand.

“His mother went berserk. I have never heard anything like it. He is loved, that is for sure.”

The sunset daubed the clouds a fiery crimson. Sam had seen enough red for one day. Ruben talked about the aquarium. Sam wasn’t listening. He might have left the hospital physically, but his mind was still there.

Before long, they reached the apartment street.

“You want to go for a drink?” Ruben asked hopefully.

“I’m beat,” Sam said. “Rain check?”

“You got it,” Ruben said with a wink.

Inside, the others were all congregated in the kitchen. Four sets of worried eyes fell to him as he came in. Astrid rushed over and hugged him. Sam wasn’t in the mood for a reception.

“How are you?” she asked.

“Shouldn’t we be asking how Wolfgang is?” Paul said.

“Oh, yes, of course,” Astrid said quickly. “Come on in. Maria, get him a beer.”

Maria pulled out a chair. “Sit down. Tell us everything.”

Sam did. They all reacted appropriately, but he wished someone from home was there instead.

He barely touched his beer. “I’m going to bed,” he said.

Of course sleep didn’t come.

In his room, still hot and suffocating, Sam lay awake for over an hour before giving up. He went for a walk.

On his way out, Genevieve looked up. “Where are you going?”

“For a walk. It’s stuffy.”

“We’re going for drinks,” Maria said. “Come with us.”

“I’m fine.”

Astrid followed him. “I’ll come with you.”

Sam stopped, frustration finally breaking through.

“Astrid, I haven’t been so scared in my life. I don’t need company. I need space.”

He drew away and left. Outside, the tears came hard and fast.

The next morning, Sam’s phone vibrated.

“Hello?”

“Sam? It’s Wolfgang.”

Sam sat bolt upright. “How are you?”

“I am fine. Better after sleep. I wondered if you are at home.”

“I am. Ruben said not to come in today.”

“That’s good. I will be there in an hour. I left my keys on the boat.”

“Do you need me to come get you?”

Wolfgang laughed. “No. You saved my life. I think you deserve to stay in bed.”

Sam didn’t stay in bed. He got up immediately.

The night before, he had bought items from a department store: cushions, pillows, flowers, bottled water, and even a ridiculous copper lizard. He placed everything carefully in Wolfgang’s room, trying to make it homely.

Nerves hit him as he finished. Wolfgang might not even remember what had been said.

The buzzer rang. Sam ran downstairs. Wolfgang stood there, heavily bandaged and still infuriatingly attractive.

“Come in,” Sam said quickly.

“Look at the fucking state of me,” Wolfgang said. He had on a Hawaiian shirt that clung to his muscular body and a pair of suit trousers that had seen better days. “Lost property. They cut me out of the wetsuit.”

Once upstairs, Wolfgang stopped in the doorway. “Did you do this?”

“Yes,” Sam said defensively. “And don’t complain about me going into your room.”

Instead of being angry, Wolfgang stepped forward and hugged him tightly.

“Thank you,” he whispered. “For everything.”

They pulled apart.

“You can keep the lizard,” Sam said, trying to lighten the moment.

Wolfgang smirked. “Thank you. I think.”

They sat on the bed.

“I need to talk to you,” Wolfgang said.

Sam’s stomach tightened.

“I said something yesterday,” Wolfgang continued.

“You were out of it,” Sam said quickly. “You don’t need to explain.”

“I do,” Wolfgang said. “I need to tell you why I have been like this around you.”

Sam exhaled, bracing himself.

“Relax,” Wolfgang said. “This is a good thing. I hope. I could have died without saying it.”

Sam didn’t speak.

“I’m going to say it and you can’t say anything until I’m done.

I think I am falling in love with you and I don’t know what the hell to do about it.

I have never had feelings like this about a man before, but I felt it the minute I saw you drunk in my bed.

Then again when you barged into the bathroom, and pretty much ever since. ”

The words hung in the air.

“Are you feeling it now?” Sam asked quietly.

He frowned, then winced, rubbing his head. “Of course I am. Is this English humour?”

Sam finally smiled faintly. “You should probably kiss me, then.”

Wolfgang looked terrified. “I have never kissed a man before.”

“Then you should definitely kiss me.”

They leaned in slowly, and their lips met. Wolfgang’s breath tickled Sam’s face. The temptation to grab hold of him and explore every part of that body was almost too strong to resist. The bandage on his head and the fear on his face made Sam hold back.

Sam ran his hand up Wolfgang’s ridiculously muscular arm. This screamed huge mistake but willpower only lasted so long.

Wolfgang pulled away briefly. He rubbed his lip. “Your beard,” he said. “It’s nice.”

Sam grinned. He was very proud of his facial fashion.

“Come here,” Wolfgang said, drawing him close.

They stayed like that for a while, the world outside forgotten.

When they finally separated, Wolfgang appeared crestfallen. “No good?”

“Are you kidding me?” Sam asked, gripping hold of him. “Come here.”

This time Wolfgang’s lips met Sam’s firmly. Sam decided to stop pussyfooting around. He ran his hands over Wolfgang’s tight chest, whose heart hammered under his palm.

When Sam flicked his tongue against Wolfgang’s lips, he groaned and parted them. Giving him the signal to go further. Sam didn’t need telling twice and pushed his tongue into Wolfgang’s mouth.

They explored each other’s mouths. Reaching around Sam’s back, Wolfgang held him closer. Their heads collided and poor Wolfgang leapt up as if he’d been scalded.

“Ouch,” he said, tentatively rubbing his bandaged area.

Sam had never kissed a man with a head injury before. This was going to take some coordination.

“Lie down,” he said, soothingly.

Once he’d got Wolfgang comfortable, Sam lay with his head on the next pillow. Facing each other, they kissed again. Each time both gained confidence. Wolfgang ran his hand up Sam’s side and into his hair.

Sam reached forward and flicked open the clasp on the suit trousers. He pushed his hand inside to find Wolfgang had no underwear on. His hard cock waiting for inspection. Something Sam had every intention of fulfilling. He wrapped his fingers around it and squeezed, making Wolfgang moan.

Their kiss gained momentum and Wolfgang ground his hips.

Sam needed Wolfgang naked immediately, so he stood up. Confusion spread over Wolfgang’s face and he tried to tug Sam down onto the bed.

Sam held out a finger. “You stay where you are. You’re my patient now.”

With slightly shaking fingers, Sam pulled the fly down on the trousers and dragged them free. Just as quick he unbuttoned the revolting shirt and helped him out of it. Throwing it down on the ground, Sam stood above Wolfgang. He was hard everywhere. His muscles, his stare and his cock.

“You now,” he said.

Sam did as he was told. Wolfgang smiled as he took in Sam’s naked body for the first time. Sam suspected he wanted some kind of show but he had no intention of slow, considered sex. He had a German hunk to explore.

He got onto the bed and ran his hands up Wolfgang’s legs. Then he followed with his head and licked the inside of Wolfgang’s thigh.

“Oh, Sam,” he murmured.

With only one destination in mind, he moved his lips to Wolfgang’s throbbing cock. He ran his tongue up the length of it, held that for a second before taking him all the way into his mouth. Wolfgang’s body bucked as Sam moved his mouth up and down the shaft. His own cock screaming for attention.

All in good time.

Wolfgang reached down and gently held Sam’s head as he slid his cock in and out of Sam’s mouth. His legs tensed and he shuddered. Immediately, Sam stopped, licking his lips. He wasn’t ready for an early finish.

Reading his thoughts, Wolfgang opened his arms. Sam lay on top of him. Once more, their lips and tongues met while Wolfgang gripped Sam’s shoulders. Their cocks nestling against each other. As unexpected as this was, Sam couldn’t wait for more.

Wolfgang tried to move him over when Sam gently pushed him against the pillow.

“You’re the patient, remember.”

“I am no good in this condition. I am sorry.”

Who was he kidding? Sam’s cock sat harder than it had in months. If this was him at no good, Sam wasn’t sure he was ready for Wolfgang’s A-game.

Sam straddled Wolfgang and moved his hand toward his cock. “Feel that?” Sam asked. “Does that say you’re no good at this?”

Wolfgang massaged Sam, making him arch his body. A trickle of sweat ran down his spine and nestled in the small of his back.

“Amazing,” Wolfgang said.

Sam leant forward and kissed him again.

When they broke, Wolfgang bit his lip.

“Give it to me,” he said.

Sam manoeuvred until the tip of his dick sat near Wolfgang’s mouth. Tentatively he licked the tip and, in what appeared to be frustration, he grabbed Sam’s arse cheeks. He took Sam’s cock all the way into his mouth. He seemed to thrive on controlling the motion with both hands.

For a beginner, he had skills. Sam tweaked his own nipples as he stared down at Wolfgang feasting on his length.

“You are amazing,” he murmured.

Wolfgang stared up. “I want to fuck you.”

Sam glanced at the huge hard cock behind him. My pleasure.

“I have thing in the drawer,” Wolfgang said.

So he’d planned for a moment like this. Interesting.

Sam opened the drawer and got out supplies. In no time, he had the condom on Wolfgang and had lubed himself up. The anticipation coursed throughout his body, becoming almost too much to bear.

With a quick kiss, he straddled him once more and slowly eased him into his hole.

Wolfgang groaned when Sam sat on him. His cock felt incredible as it filled Sam’s body.

He gripped Wolfgang’s hips with his knees and let the tingles run all over his skin while his body grew accustomed to the sensation.

“Okay?” Sam asked, rubbing Wolfgang’s lip with his thumb.

“Oh, fuck yeah,” he said, his hands tight on Sam’s hips.

Sam began to rock. Slowly at first he until he got his rhythm. Wolfgang matched him move for move and before long, Sam lost himself in the moment. It had been a while. The bed shook violently as Sam rode him.

Wolfgang lay below him. Sam had never been more turned on than he was at that moment. He grabbed Wolfgang’s hand and pushed it toward his cock. It wouldn’t take long but he needed Wolfgang to make him come.

He rode Wolfgang like everything he had depended on it. Wolfgang shouted Sam’s name as he pulled at his cock. “Oh, Sam. I’m going…”

Sam leant back and brought Wolfgang to a shuddering climax. His whole body tensed and he gripped Sam’s cock even tighter. That was enough for Sam to come hard, covering Wolfgang’s taut abs.

“Wow,” Wolfgang said as his breathing returned to normal.

“Not bad for a beginner,” Sam said, laughing.

Wolfgang took his face in his hands. “No more jokes, Sam. My feelings for you are so strong they are scaring me. I am not in this for a bit of fun.”

Sam lay beside him and nuzzled into his shoulder. “I think we should see where this takes us,” he replied. “I feel the same way and if it’s any consolation, I’m not used to this either.”

Wolfgang wrapped his strong arms around Sam and for the first time in weeks, Sam felt like he was home.
