Chapter 11

KYRA

Icouldn’t tell you how long we have been trapped in this cabin.

There isn’t much to the building, and honestly, I’m shocked it hasn’t fallen down around us yet.

From the bed I am chained to, I can hear the soft purr of what I am assuming is a generator, since we have lights.

There is running water, but based on the smell, it’s definitely well water.

The room I am in is very basic. This mattress has a spring stabbing me as I lay here.

The sheets are scratchy, like they don’t know what fabric softener is, and everything smells musty.

I can feel a draft coming through the holes in the logs that make up the walls, where the chinking has crumbled from lack of maintenance.

More than likely, this cabin was used for the hunting season, not as a permanent home.

This is probably the last place I will ever see.

With that thought, my heart starts to race, and the panic settles into my bones.

Tears start to silently fall down my temples, soaking my hair and the pillow beneath my head.

If you want to call this piece of fabric a pillow.

Wiping the tears from my face causes the chains on my wrists to rattle, and I still.

I don’t want to bring Jack back into this room.

I can hear our captors talking quietly in the cabin’s main space.

Earlier, Nick and Nyx were screaming at each other because she tried her damndest to keep their attention off me.

The sound of a hand against flesh echoed to me, and then Nyx went silent.

I really hope she was just knocked out and he didn’t kill her.

What if the guys can’t find us?

The sound of boots echoes through the small space moments before the door to this room is thrown open.

In the doorway stands Jack Campbell. Nyx has worked with him a lot since she joined the force.

I will never understand why he helped Nick with this hair-brained kidnapping plot, but he has shown a creepy interest in me.

“Well, hello there.” His voice is low and sounds like he has smoked a pack of cigarettes since they took us.

I refuse to respond to him, but my shaking body causes the chains to rattle.

“You can ignore me all you want, baby doll, but your body gives you away. I know you are terrified of me.” His chuckle causes a chill to run down my spine.

Staring at the wall in front of the bed, I refuse to meet his eye. I can do this. This is no different than dealing with Mike. Channel your inner bad bitch. My little internal pep talk helps to calm me enough to stop my body from shaking uncontrollably.

“Shall I play with my baby doll?” He leans down to whisper in my ear, and I freeze, not realizing how close he has gotten to me.

His hand was resting on my stomach. I am still completely clothed in the outfit they took us in, thank god for the small blessings, right?

The oversized hoodie and boyfriend jeans definitely smell, but my flesh is completely covered, and they will need to unchain me to take my clothes off.

I hear the flick of a knife, and my breath hitches. Turning my head slowly, I see Jack has opened his pocket knife, and he is inspecting it closely. He runs his thumb over the blade, checking its sharpness, before he brings it to my body.

“I could just cut these pesky clothes off your body. Then I will have complete access to you.” His smile feels straight out of a horror movie, and I have no way to stop him.

“JACK.” Nick hollers from the other room. Jack lets out a growl before he closes the knife and turns back towards the door.

“You are safe from me for now, Baby Doll.” The words are quiet, but I still can hear them, and then he is gone.

My body is fading from the adrenaline, and all I want is to sleep. Against my will, my eyes close. I will rest for just a few minutes, I tell myself.

“Sunshine…are you waiting for me?” Callum’s voice echoes through my dreams.

“Cal, I told you. We can’t do this.” I try to pretend like he hasn’t flipped my world on its head.

“That’s not what you said when you begged me to be balls deep in that perfect pussy.” His voice fades too quickly.

“Baby Doll…” Jack’s voice startles me out of my dream. “Good, you are awake.” His face leans down over mine, and I can smell the cheap beer on his breath. I hold back a gag.

Turning my head quickly to avoid his breath and any possible attempts at him kissing me.

Jack jerks my head back around to look at him.

His fingers are rough against my cheeks.

Refusing to allow him to see me break, I glare back into his eyes.

I will break when he’s gone, but I will not let him see me cry.

“Shall we play, Baby Doll?” The evil smirk on his face tells me all I need to know about what kind of play he wants.

He stands from the edge of the bed and pulls his knife out of his pocket again. This is it, he is going to rape me. There is a shatter of glass from the main room, and Jack whips around to face the door.

Smoke slowly trickles into the room. Are the Devil Dogs here? Did they find us? My world goes dark as my mind shuts down.

I come to as I am being carried out of the cabin. Nyx is in the back of a white cargo van being tended to by a woman with short, hot pink hair. Oh shit, I think that’s Alyra. I met her at the Halloween party. I look up at the face of the person carrying me bridal style into the woods.

Callum.

“You found us.” My voice is weak, and I’m not sure he actually heard me.

“We will always find you both.” He presses a soft kiss to my temple and wraps me in a warm blanket.

A little while later, Alyra approaches us. “Hey, honey, I don’t know if you remember me. My name is Alyra, but you can call me Aly.” Her voice is soft and comforting when she sticks her hand out for me to shake.

“I remember you.” She hands me a bottle of water with a warm smile.

“Did they hurt you? Do you have any injuries I need to tend to?” Callum lets out a low growl at Aly. “Calm down, guard dog, you know I’m not going to hurt her.”

I just shake my head at her. Nyx appears from behind her, letting us know that she’s going to head in with Dee and Graham. She will get her revenge for both of us.

“Send them back to hell where they belong,” I say to her as she walks back towards our prison.

I am safe. A deep breath leaves my body, and Cal clings to me. I have a feeling I won’t be able to shake this boy after this.
