Chapter 4 The Ambush
I did not know whether to call the Crown Prince's mind deep or purely innocent.
I had thought he had pulled the Xu family Miss away for another purpose. But I did not expect he had simply taken a liking to my riding and archery skills.
We rode around the hunting ground once. The game in our hands was already too much to carry.
Just as he was laughing heartily an arrow flew over and straight into the Crown Prince's chest.
The next two arrows came at me as if unwilling to leave any survivors.
I frowned and moved closer to the Crown Prince. Even though I dodged and avoided the vital points my left leg and right shoulder were still struck by the arrows.
The assassin opposite shot the arrows and ran away. I supported the Crown Prince with earth pits to hide us for a long time. Once I saw no one around I helped him onto the horse and rushed toward the camp.
The Crown Prince coughed up two mouthfuls of blood. He pulled at the corner of his mouth and smiled. “Miss Xu need not worry. This king is different from others. My heart is on the right side and there is golden armor inside. It will not be too bad a problem.”
Pain throbbed in my calves and shoulders. The scene before my eyes blurred.
I bit my tongue tip and answered. “Your Highness the Crown Prince your body is heavy. It is best to conserve strength now.”
I wore Xu Fengwan's clothes and would pretend to be her fulfill what she needed to do.
The Crown Prince half lay behind me suddenly spoke. “The Xu family could not even look after one young lady and let such a beautiful face scar.”
I was startled in my heart but said nothing. My head grew more and more dizzy. I could only urge the horse under me to speed toward the camp.
When I finally saw the colorful flags of the camp my eyes went black and I fainted.
