Chapter Sixteen #2

"I needed to process, time to step away, but please know it fucking killed me to walk away from you like that.

It was like I left but my heart stayed behind.

So, back to my original request to compromise.

You know I'm a damn good cop and I won't let anyone slip through my fingers.

Can you please give me a chance to do my job and make things right before you put yourself at risk again? "

"I can't promise you that I'll be able to sit back and wait, but I can try. That's the best I can give you, Beau."

"I can’t say I love that response, especially with how much I’m putting my neck out on the line, but that's a start.

" Beau runs a frustrated hand through his hair.

“How about promising to keep me in the loop?

You get a lead, you let me know. If you're going to go on a recon mission, check in before and after. "

"Won't that put you in a tough position?"

"Yes and no. I don't want to know any details at all. Just let me know if you’re going to be out and then check in when you're done.

Better yet, come home to me after. I have no idea how many people you've taken care of on your own, and I don't want to know.” He raises his hand to keep me from divulging any information.

“I'm going with plausible deniability if anything were to ever happen—"

"It won't, Beau. I'm very careful. I promise. If something happens to me, then who will step up if I'm not around? Well, besides you, but you weren't always here."

"I get it. I do. Can you agree to those terms for me, Jolene?"

"Yeah, I think I can handle that. But like I said, I'm not promising to completely stay out of the mix if I think there's too much danger."

"Fine. Can we table this for now and move on?"

"I'd love nothing more." I slide across the couch and onto Beau's lap. "Thatcher must've been really convincing. What did he tell you about me?" I have a guess, but I'd like to hear it from the horse's mouth.

"He told me about one of your 'games' with Boomer," Beau growls.

His jealousy where Boomer is concerned is such a damn turn-on.

"Was it the night he got to watch me kick a bunch of SEALs’ asses?" I whisper into Beau's ear as I kiss my way down his neck.

"Sure was." He thickens beneath me, and I can't help but grind my needy cunt on his hard length. "Fuck, Joey girl. Thinking of you moving through the woods and taking out those men is sexy as hell."

"Seriously?" I lean back to look at Beau.

A lot of guys have said they think being with a woman like me is hot until I put them in their place. Then it's no longer the case. I know Beau was turned on the first time we went at each other, but the idea of me hunting and taking down assholes turning him on is almost too much for me to handle.

Beau grips my hips hard as he thrusts up into me. God, what I wouldn't give to be naked right now, with Beau's dick inside me.

"Do you really need to question that? Can you not feel what you do to me?"

"Well, if that's the case, how about a little game?"

"What kind of game?"

"Only the best kind. How about a little cat and mouse out in the woods?"

"Fuuuuuck." Beau groans as he drops his head to the back of the couch. "You are a siren, I swear. As much as I want to play this game with you, it's only been five days since you were shot. Shot , Jolene."

"Pshh, that's old news. I'm practically fully healed." Thanks to Kenina and Rieka, I'm not even lying.

Beau looks at me in disbelief, so I scoot back on his lap and lift my shirt. The entry and exit wounds are still a vibrant red, but they’ve all but healed, leaving only the red scars on my abdomen and back. I took the stitches out the other day, and the bruises are gone all together.

"How is that even possible?" Beau mumbles as he traces the raised scars.

"The girls know their shit, that's how. And that's also why I call them instead of going to a doctor. There hasn't been an injury they haven't been able to mend for me."

"I'm sorry I doubted them."

"They'll be happy to hear that. Now, how about that game?"

"Fuck, I really want to, but I'm still worried about hurting you."

"You'll have to catch me first, Beau. Besides, I've got a cupboard full of concoctions from the apothecary to take care of any minor bumps or cuts we could give each other tonight.

Come on, Beau. Let's go play." My smile probably borders on maniacal, but I don't care.

Beau's the first man in my life I've felt like I could truly be myself with. I'm not about to start hiding it now.

I wait anxiously and let out a victorious crow when the corners of his lips tip up.

"Fine, let's do this."

"Yes! I hope you don't mind losing to a girl," I taunt as I climb off Beau's lap and start heading for the back door.

I'm caught off guard when Beau wraps his hand around my neck then spins.

His body pins me against the wall, his hand still around my throat.

"Any way I look at it, I'm winning tonight because I'll have this hot, tight pussy milking my cock.

" Beau's hand is in my shorts in an instant, two fingers plunging into my center.

I want to throw my head back and enjoy the pure bliss of having him touch me again, but Beau's still got me pinned in place. If my lust-addled brain was firing on all cylinders, I'd easily be able to break his hold, but in its current state, an orgasm from Beau sounds far better.

"Don't think for a second I'll play fair. This is mine." He thrusts into me hard and fast, just the way I need it. " You are mine, and you better fucking believe your orgasms are mine too." With his last word, Beau takes his fingers out of my center and walks out the back door.

Well, fuck him. Two can play that game. Beau might be bigger and stronger than me, but in these woods, he's my prey and I'm ready to feast.

I'm about to follow Beau out the backdoor when I remember I left an old pair of running shoes here. As much as I love my boots, the sneakers will make my life a little easier when it comes to navigating in the woods. I put on my shoes and braid my hair, then go outside to find Beau.

I scan the yard, but I can't see him anywhere.

Silly, silly man. He thinks he's going to be hunting me, but I'll be on him before he knows it. I spent a lot of time in these woods when the new cop moved to town. I'm well acquainted with the layout of the land and will have no challenge finding Beau.

"Oh, pretty boy. I don't know what you're thinking in that handsome head of yours, but sneaking off before I get a chance to come outside isn't gonna help you one bit. Safe word is ‘bacon’. Feel free to use it," I taunt before casually strolling into the woods.
